@Al Navarro: BTW, I saw this headline via the relatively new m.Jalopnik.com (mobile edition) and knew without seeing the byline that Hardigree wrote it. That episode (Season One finale) is classic. "Carousel" scene in 1, 2, 3....

@Al Navarro: That was an EPIC scene. Even now I am blown away by it, after repeatedly watching it. Draper could have won a Jalopnik SOTD (scene of the day) award for that single performance. Probably get a star too.

Couple of notes for the folks who haven't watched much Mad Men:

1. Don Draper is married to a gorgeous woman, yet is a notorious philanderer. Women cannot resist him and vice versa. And so this slideshow that he put together is telling the story the beautiful veneer of the life he's created, but we (and he) know that it's a sham. Or maybe it's a reflection of how things were (and how he'd like them to be again)?

2. Harry, the guy in the front of the room who walks out at the end recently cheated on his wife, with a secretary in the office (not his). Hildy, the woman who he has this one night stand with, is IMHO, smoking hot. Yes, my wife (who is also not unattractive) knows I have a crush on Julie McNiven. It may actually exceed my crush on the woman who plays Don's wife, January Jones.

is BMW implying that middle-aged executives drive 3ers? not in my neighborhood, we're infested with 5s and 7s, and the occasional M3/M5. the younger professional guys drive the 3ers.

Annie Leibovitz, huh? It's a good thing they brought the sedan. Otherwise the adolescent Bimmer dropping its top while papa 7-Series looks on would cause all sorts of ruckus.

Perfect for BMW. Most of their cars have a remarkable ability to look very fashion forward when they are introduced, yet look remarkably frumpy about ten years later.

There are exceptions, like the pre-Bangle 5 and 7 series, the M1 and the pre-war 328. But even ones that looked great at the time, like the 1600, Bavaria, 3.0 and even the 507 (all of which are still magnificent designs) now seem very much locked into their time, and not at all timeless.

Even his pre-partnership Buick was probably more analogous to a 5-series. Although I'd lean towards the replacement being the more subdued (vs. an AMG) and coupier CL600.

@Flathead Smith: It's an original drama series on AMC (yeah, I thought they just replayed old movies, too). As I don't have cable, I only heard about it recently myself, but the writing, acting, and setting are apparently quite good.

I've got season 1 in the netflix queue, but apparently they're up to 3, now.

@YankBoffin: HBO must be kicking itself when they passed over the series. I personally believe that Mad Men singlehandedly raised the profile of AMC. I used to never watch AMC before the series started. I mean never.

And yes, season 3 just started.

@Couldn'tMakeItToTheLeatherWashNite: it definitely was the one. The nice thing for them is that Breaking Bad is quickly catching up to the quality of Mad Men. Doesn't have the sensitivity to style or the the wit, but it can be pretty intense at times.

@Flathead Smith: Of course he's driving that '62 Caddy in 1962 (and 1963, we assume), so I don't know if that makes him any less cool.
But AMC? Yes! They dropped the "Movie Classics" concept long ago and with Mad Men and Breaking Bad are doing limited by excellent original dramas. Check them out.

I'd probably just end up with one or two nice daily drivers, something along the lines of a newish, but not new, Vette or BMW 3 or 5 series and a yard full of projects in various states of repair/dis-repair. Realistic dream, have the cash to throw away kind of thing, go to the dealership and order a brand new Corvette EXACTLY the way I want it, either a ZR1 or Z06.

Complete FU money: Bristol Fighter T or Bugatti Royale, and the 747 to haul them around. Pete, if you are going to dream, dream big and skip the Gulfstream.
