@Racin_G73 - dirt track legend (some day ... maybe): I haven't looked into the issue at all, but I did catch a blurb on NPR last night that the European reaction, outside of the EU itself wanting some millions paid back, was primarily positive.
Reading the article now, looks like workers in Britain and Spain - who likely would have lost their jobs if Magna had bought Opel - are happy. But German workers, now fearing that their jobs will be at risk, are unhappy. Goes to show you can't please all the people all the time. #boblutz
@beercheck: Over 10,000 Germans are projected to lose their job because of GM taking back the deal. They are going to close multiple factories in Germany, and on top of everything when Angela Merkel was here in the US, GM and/or the US gov't forgot to tell her they were going to do this. She found out on the flight back to Germany after addressing the US Congress. The Germans are pissed. And we all know what happens when the Germans get pissed. Damnit we are going to save France again. #boblutz
@Rabbi Dave: Car nerds that read a site like this. No, wait... he writes for a competing site. In that case, car nerds that read service manuals instead of watching porn, yeah that's the type of person that wears a race suit to an event like this.
Obviously I didn't expect to gain an advantage from it. I didn't wear my HANS device and I competed in Allen-Edmonds "Traveler" shoes. The suit was just for fun and promotion. #lutzvssiler
Beating an octegenarian in a Cadillac around a racetrack is a laudable feat? That speaks volumes about the turnaround in Cadillac's brand focus over the past few years, and the quality of GM's high-performance powertrains when placed in a well-sorted chassis.
I'm certainly no GM fanboy, but good on 'em. #lutzvssiler
I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a 300c SRT-8 or Taurus SHO out there. I know they wouldn't have beat the CTS-V, but it'd be interesting to see how they would have faired.
That being said...
Wes, if this was a contest for best hair, you'd be a ringer!
How, exactly did Michael Cooper outpace the CTS-V? Sure, Heinricy and Redman are racers, but Aaron Link (not a professional racer) beat him by 2 seconds. Two seconds per lap is a lifetime in an actual race. #lutzvssiler
@five_on_ninetyeight: Aaron Link is also a test engineer who drives high performance cars at 10/10ths regularly, and gets paid to do it. Saying he's not a professional racer is fine, but he is still a professional driver. #lutzvssiler
@beercheck: I'm sorry, I thought the contest was to determine which car could throw down the fastest time. You are correct, the 22 year old Cooper kicked the 77 year old Lutz arse. #lutzvssiler
@five_on_ninetyeight: Of course the contest wasn't to see which *car* was fastest--if that had been the contest, the same driver would have driven all the cars back-to-back. My suspicion is that if Heinricy or Redman had been driving the M3, it would have had the faster lap time.
But since this was a GM event, we'll never know. The real point of this event was to get people talking about the CTS-V, and show off how capable a vehicle it is. It succeeded in doing that quite brilliantly. #lutzvssiler
@FormerlyPreferredCustomer: Exactly! I could be completely mistaken, but I also bet that the M5 and the Audi were held back by their drivers. #lutzvssiler
@snapoversteer 'bout to get told: having driven an M5 and M3 on tracks I could totally see the M3 being better in this situation. It is just that good. Audi doesn't grip like you'd think either. Personally I'm surprised the Evo didn't do better. #lutzvssiler
@Rabbi Dave: The Evo surprises me, too. I haven't driven the current M5 at a track, but I've seen it, and in the right hands, it's fast as hell. Much better in the corners than I would have thought. #lutzvssiler

We're so very sorry. We had no idea that letting him win that publicity 'race' could lead to this.

What do you think he's gonna do next? Challenge other luxury marquees to a face-off on the 'Ring? #boblutz

You've heard otherwise?
