Needs some stars and stripes painted. Although that name on the air intake is as American and as awesome you can get.

    RIP Steve Fossett.

Most land-speed racers have a kind of cobbled-together look, but this thing actually looks like a "normal" vehicle, like a small corporate jet or something.

On a side note: what's the LSR for a driven-wheel vehicle?

Personally, I prefer that engineering challenge to a jet with the wings clipped and flipped.

So the "Spirit of America" is being sold in England... Those bastards have taken our spirit and are going to auction it off to the highest bidder.. that just isn't right at all. I say no Auction without representation.

@Vintage Racer - with V-12 goodness: That thing's gonna go airborne. I mean, look at the front, there's nothing there to create any downforce whatsover to keep it from taking off into the air. I do love how batshit crazy it is, but I don't think it's a serious competitor.

On the nose... all the info on it is here:

They've added canards to the nose to help combat the lift... I think they've gotten it up to 400 plus so far.

@Tucker589 is Really Cool: two little canard winglets on the front are all you need so long as there's no lift generated elsewhere on the body. And, there isnt.

Really, what kind of half-a55ed engineering do you think some guy would trust his life to at 700mph?

@Vintage Racer - with V-12 goodness: That's freaking awesome. The F-104 is still one of my all-time favorite aircraft. They've managed to make it a ground-craft, too! Cars and planes, all it's missing is a hot chick!

@gravit8: Winglets are vertical sails that go on the end of wings to effectively increase the length of the wing and improve efficiency by essentially increasing wingspan, aspect ratio, yada yada. Canards are not winglets. They're just canards.
