You know what would be nice? Being able to open the look and look down and see a real good looking engine, made only of things necessary for that engine to operate at maximum efficiency.
@can't find no job, that's why I ain't go no...: I hate that no car salesman has ever been able to give me an answer when I ask if a car uses a timing belt or chain. I generally get the impression that they don't know what either of these items are, what they do, or why it's relevant to know. It's disappointing that someone can spends years selling a product without learning the least bit of information about it.
I thought, back while I was taking a break, unwanted, from school, I'd be great at selling cars 'cause hey, I'm a car-guy, through and through.
I could not have been more wrong.
Buyers/shoppers never wanted any actual information, and the dealership was hell bent on screwing them out of every last penny.
I lasted three months before the guilt of lying to people, daily, got to me. I put school on plastic for a semester...it was worth it to have a clear conscious.
You're being much too generous, based on the stupidity which ceases to amaze me...though it does baffle me at times.
I give 20% of the population the ability to figure this out, at the most basic level, too, i.e. no interpretation of said graphically-presented information.
I swear, if people had to figure out breathing was vital to survival, instead of it being automatic, the population on this rock would be much, much lower...and smarter.
Yeah, but the ZR1 has a skull on the intake. A skull! Unless Australia one-ups us by putting Murilee's driveshaft-through-skull graphic on the hood of every HSV vehicle, I think we're doing ok.
@smalleyxb122: Oh damns, you're right - I'd say it's a sign of getting prematurely old and my memory ain't what it used to be, but that would imply that it was ever good to begin with.
How many would retain that same graph throughout the life of the car? First upgrade or tweak makes it irrelevant. Plus, GM would fall prey to nitpickers demanding refunds or class-action just because their own car dyno'd just outside the factory-embossed spec through some small range.
Either way, one fact reigns ture: Alphamazing, this is your calling.

@goingincirclez: It's obvious that you just need an OLCD display rather than a printed graph.
Tap the power lines into the wiring harness (plenty of places around), add a USB upload, and whenever you change your car you get it dynoed. Upload the dyno graph and have it display. You can even have an on/off switch pretty easily. Hell, you could make it connected to the hood latch, so it is only on whenever the hood is up.
Hell, being OLCD, it could display almost anything you want. You might even be able to hook it up to a mini computer system inside the car and program it to display whatever you want. It's basically just another video screen.
@Alphamazing: The only real issue becomes heat. I'm sure you can find high-heat LCD screens out there, but I haven't looked. You could solve part of the problem with some good insulation, but simple proximity to the engine, especially in the bay on a hot Texas day, might burn the entire system up. Can't be sure though, would have to do more research.
@Alphamazing: Police and military spec touch screens are rated for some pretty rediculous heat, they also are built to endure shocks and loads so will stand up to whatever hoonage you intend to do.

Of course, I'd need to tame the cowl shake first...

Don't manscape my engine bay!

I can't imagine a new-car sales-douche trying to explain this to most 'marks'...at least not without much gesturing and boldfaced lying.

A: Not very.
Q:So how come Corvettes don't come with a cool engine output graph on the engine cover like the HSV/CSV CR8's LS2 engine?
A: Because they don't love you enough.

But if I get something like that, I'd replace the graph with one of Alphamazing's COTD graphs.
