    The Waikiki Parc hotel offers an Elise rental option, or at least they did when I was sent the promotional postcards sometime in the last few years.

    Almost made me fly back there. Almost...

    This is an interesting idea. Basically the car will drive the "normal" driver away because it has no luggage space. So basically all renters in one way or the other will be true purists. Good idea.

    Starts praying for a short business trip to Italy...

    If I was actually on vacation in Italy it would be for at least one week, if not two, and the wife would be along. There is NO WAY an Elise will hold a week's worth of luggage for two. Ran into a similar problem last summer in Seattle, going on an Alaskan cruise. ALMOST tried to swap the Dodge Caliber rental that we had for a Mini Cooper S, but realized the suitcases wouldn't fit, and they now make Cooper S with an automatic.

    As a Hertz Gold Member, I hope I get dibs on one of these the next time I have to go Italy. Of course, I have to find reason to go to Italy now, too.

    @32ndnote: No, that's not depressing to me, they seem like one of the few cars that are well-suited to both the track and the street. I know a guy that commutes in an Elise and he swears that it's well-mannered on the road and comfortable (though he isn't a very big guy, so my frame of 6'3" may disagree with the comfort statement).

    Italy is looking even better now. Wine, women, weather and Lotuses. It really is one of the perfect rental cars. Easy to hoon, and very economical. Hopefully Canada/America will get this very soon.

    @.357: I like hertz's attitude toward this type of thing. Way back when they first started renting the mustangs it was really so the common person could enjoy a car that normally wouldn't be practical for their lifestyle

    @.357: You can rent them from most rental places in Miami. They had a few rentals at the Ritz in Key Biscayne.
