Having driven both an A6 and an A4, the A6 feels much bigger. It's wider and longer, and I'm sure there's a phallic joke to be made here, but I don't have one ready.
I could see this being a good move in a congested center. Driving a Lincoln Town Car through downtown Vancouver made me very nervous, being that I'm used to a tiny little Volkswagen. Trying to navigate meant that I was perpetually watching my corners, and feeling paranoid about getting too close to the car in front of me. So for a nation that's used to smaller cars, but in need of a longer car for passengers, this would be perfect. It would allow the same manoeuvrability, but increased space.
Basically, when comparing to the A6, it's not about the size of the boat, but the motion on the ocean.
Now someone see if they can come up with that phallic joke I'm missing.
Wait just a damned minute. So of all the markets they could think of where the rear seat passenger might need a little extra legroom, they decide that China is the best first choice?
Maybe they could do a sendup of the old Wilt Chamberlain in a Rabbit...just put Yao Ming in the back seat.
@rip: To be fair to Audi, they did give the B8 A4 an extra inch or so. But not because we complained...I believe it was because it became known that the A3 had more rear legroom than the A4 (really).

Funny, back seat room in the a4 has been a complaint in the US for oh, about 15 years.
Interesting how they responded so quickly to the Chinese market while ignoring the US market.
Guess that means the US won't be getting diesels across the line for some time, if ever. No A5 or A6 diesel for me... :(
