Couldn't they at least pump up the flat rear tires before they took the ebay pics? I mean, I know it doesn't run, but come on. At least make it look like it possibly could run.

Damn. I was all hoping it'd be a proper car, just without an engine and transmission.

Forty-eight-five for a pretty statue? Not unless you're a museum.

Would it have really taken that much more for Ford to slap this thing on a Panther chassis? The whole plywood and erector set thing looks like it might have taken alot more effort.

This would be worth considering if it had a real chassis and interior so you could just bolt in mechanicals. Unfortunately, this is will never be more than questionable, three dimensional art.

If by "Blade-Runner-esque" you mean it makes me want to run a blade across my wrists, you are correct.

I don't know if you could even sell this car to Sajeev Mehta.

I was at The Henry Ford Museum yesterday. I wonder, sometimes, why they don't have more Ford concept cars there? They have a one: the 1936 Zephyr concept car. They also have an early production 1986 Ford Taurus. Other than that, they don't have much in the way of concept cars.

They did have Janis Joplin's Porsche 356c as part of the Rock Stars Cars & Guitars display.

@mandwer: It's the Henry Ford Museum - it's not really a car museum, it's more of a tribute to the industrial revolution. The automotive side of things is slightly Ford-biased, but by no means is that all they've got. I was there 11 or 12 years ago, and they had a 'Cuda parked next to the first production Mustang, and I believe there was an early '80's Accord in there too.

@mandwer: Yeah, well, they have all sorts of cars including several Chryslers, racers, aircraft, trains, etc. They have a Tucker, a Bugatti Type 41, a Cord 812, and many other cars who have historic significance. Just not many Ford concept cars. I'm assuming most of those are either sold to dealers (as this one seems to have been) or stored in another facility. I know they used to have a bunch in the Ford Experience, but that's closed now.

Oh, I should correct myself, they also have a Mustang I concept car and one or two others.

The Janis Joplin Porsche is part of a temporary exhibit of rocker's cars and guitars. It's actually pretty cool including the Lola-Cosworth T29 that Nick Mason drove in the Silverstone 6 Hours, complete with The Wall paint job.

@The Auto Insider: Oh cool, thanks for letting me know. The last I saw or heard anything about it was when it was featured in Rides magazine several years ago, which I thought was a rather inglorious way to go out.

P.S. You ought to post tornado stories at least once a month - we're taking them over and turning them into epic afterhours lounges, but the last one got so big we can't post easily anymore. Have you seen the thread?
