@John Krewson:Phobia: an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation.
The word homophobia was invented in order to marginalize folks who do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle. There are a few people who may actually be classified as homophobic, in that that they may fall under the above mentioned definition. But to call someone homophobic because they believe the lifestyle is wrong and/or immoral is wrong. Many people receive their moral guidance from either history or the bible, both of which tell us that homosexuality is wrong. Many in the Christian community have much compassion for the person who is a homosexual and will embrace him, but will not under any circumstances embrace the lifestyle. It is a sad commentary that our current culture has labeled someone attempting to do the right thing as a sicko. A perfect example, is the way the homosexual community portrayed the black church in California recently.
@.357-Wingman of Syrax:Perez Hilton is about the worst front man you could have representing your cause. He is in Michael Moore territory as far as I'm concerned.
@Flathead Smith: I know what you mean. I have compassion for many Christians and try to embrace them, but under no circumstances embrace their judgmental lifestyle, and they keep calling me a sicko.
Actually, that's a lie. When I was thinner, because of my long hair, I'd occasionally get mistaken for a woman from behind while out on my bicycle. Then they noticed the beard, and the complete lack of breasts. My personal favorite insult so far is "faggot" - hurled at me by a high-schooler in a metallic-lavender second-gen SL1.
You know, I haven't seen Charles Barrett comment on this blog in an awful long time..... I guess I'll just have to find out what's up over at facelessbook.
Wow, that's really gonna piss off the fundies. Who are they gonna get cars from now? Can't buy from GM or Chrysler, because they're run by communists now. Can't buy from Ford, because they support gays. Can't buy from foreigners, because they're not American.
@elwood: If you want some light reading, go check out the American Family Association's boycott of Ford for advertising Land Rover and Jaguar in gay publications.
This was after they did the same thing several years prior and were shot down by the courts. Last year's motion was functionally near-identical, but replaced "gay/lesbian" with "unmarried" - the unwritten fact here being that a heterosexual couple can be married at any time if they so choose.
I'd like to think it's just Arkansas... but I know it's not.
The thing about the Flex/MKT platform is that it's exactly at the dividing line of wagon and crossover, which makes it hard to decide what to think about it. We declared it a wagon so we don't have to be ashamed of liking the powertrain.
I will be looking this over real seriously when I am next in the market for a new daily driver (next year). I would look at a Flex but that's the one that I consider hideous looking.
Sure I would prefer a Taurus SHO wagon but we all know that ain't gonna happen.
As an ex-Audi owner I thought they had lost their mind a few years ago with the new huge fish snoot. Now it kind of works for me (it's the LED's I now hate). This "Signature" Lincoln nose is no worse than that (or BMW kidny's IMO).
Can't bitch about "plain vanilla" (Toyota) all the time then criticize Lincoln just because it isn't your favorite flavor.
@TRLennon: Plain vanilla is great (case in point, Toyotas pre-2002-ish). New Toyotas are basically French vanilla: it's when they add a tiny bit of flavor to it that it goes all wrong.
They need to make the body shorter and wider if they want to use the knock-off Interceptor concept grille style. It is hideously disproportioned, despite its advertised handling competency. While I really like the Flex (hate the vame though) and recommend the AWD Flex variant to anyone looking for family transportation, I don't think that this crossover (yes it is, it's a baked potato on wheels, like they all are) will successfully compete in the luxury wagon market at 55K. I mean, that's Mercedes and Audi mony, and you get faster, better handling cars with more cachet, and better reputations. This is stillborn. I don't think it was well thought out.
