They also neglected to mention that the four Euro contenders had their V8s removed and replaced with 1.6 litre diesels from the VW Camper Van.

Beautiful Loveland Pass (11,990) in Colorado. That would be fun to drive with road closed to other traffic. The lack of guardrails in places would scare the flatlanders.

One can't help but notice they're putting a turbo engine against a bunch of NA engines, and sending it to Cessna cruising altitude. Turbo's gonna do good when the air gets thin. That's just how it is.

So at 12,000ft no kidding a turbo'd motor beat three of the four cars on an unknown length "track". I'd rather get a SHO and save $8,000 over a similarly equipped Lincoln ($42,905 vs. $50,800 priced on the websites) with the toys I want. Yeah its not some Euro luxo sedan but will probably do 95% of what they do for a big chunk of cash savings. Then again I'd probably never buy a new car again and buy a Conan O'Brien SHO and be 100 times happier. That's just how I roll.

The Lincoln placing well was a foregone conclusion given that it was the only turbocharged car at 12,900 feet. But it's still and entertaining set of videos. I wonder how bad the spanking would have been if the winning car was replaced by its turbocharged underling?

How about a four-banger Ecoboosted Focus to beat both of them?

I caught myself doing a double-take as the intro screen pitted a large NA Euro engine against a smaller, boosted American one. Talk about a reversal...

I just looked up their firm, it seems they have a subsidiary in Detroit that sells bullet-proof vests, and business is good.

They also sell posters of some guy named Ray posing with a Camaro. I heard it's risque and probably NSFW or the Camaro.

"...how is a bankrupt media company's editorial budget big enough to support this?"

It's the result of clever economizing by choosing to cancel the importation of better articles sourced from their Australian subsidiary.

Good time for a Lincoln--and made me think of Hunter Thompson --the Caddy that wouldn't get off the line quite as fast as the Chevy but once it got up to speed was more amazing, "all that elegant, upholstered weight lashing around the desert" (iirc).

When you stomp on the luxobarge and even luxobargettes, they launch but yes, in an elegant way. Kudos to Ford for putting their cars where their mouth is. Are. So to speak.

I don't buy it.. the vette was barely hitting it hard.. i don't think the person who drove the vette knows how to drive (drag) or they took it easy to make the Ford look like it was some vette eater.

Plus if Ford doesnt want you behind the wheel, you know they are hiding something or had something rigged.

@Mike Delozier: don't be so jaded. Aside from the journo's and the Ford folks, everyone else was there seperately, hundreds of cars. The Flex and the Vette just happened to line up, and I tend to agree the guy driving the Vette didn't know what he was doing.

And Ford didn't let us drive because the vehicle hasn't been launched to the media yet. We could beg to drive a Raptor all day and even though it's a pretty epic piece of machinery, it would have been the same outcome.
