The Autobahn really trains you to keep an eye on your mirrors and to judge your overtaking and merging clearances. There are a lot of very slow trucks and cars, some of which will pull out in front of you with little warning. You can be closing on them at more than twenty miles per hour, while someone's closing on you at more than forty mph. It can be a little tense.
@Van Sarockin: And once off the autobahns, there are even more learning opportunities to be had.
For example, it took me some time to get used to the advisory speed signs on curves, as here in the states they are merely suggestions, but in Germany they are "You will die in a fiery wreck if you are going 1km/h above this speed in anything other than an F1 car".
I learned a lot of good driving habits in Germany. I have subsequently lost them all.
The wrap around tail-lights are just an effect of an object traveling at a ridiculous rate of speed literally wiping the image as it transfers onto what can only be an ancient magnetic tape recording device. Its a little known fact that when an object's speed transfers from the unbelievable to ridiculous, it creates a wave of compressed everything. That wave of compressed everything will literally mind-fuck human beings and "totally screw with" electronic and mechanical devices. It's a wonder that in this case the camera vehicle was not sucked into the wake of the ridiculous fast traveling vehicle and churned in the vacuum into roughly nine, maybe eight, pieces before being chucked into an alternate dimension.
Now that I've proven the tail-lights were blurred, AND WHY, it's a Corvette of some sort, either Z06 or ZR1.
The Infinity brand isn't sold here in Europe, so given that I have never seen an Infinity on German roads I assume it can't be a G37.
Judging by the white LED running lights you see in the mirror when the car is approaching I was gonna say its a Panamera prototype but the taillights doesn't fit.
Having only recently been on the autobahn for the first time, and cruising at around 120 most of the times, occasionally something like this video would happen--just astounding speed. I was also impressed that I never saw slow drivers in the left lane--in the US you would inevitably run up on some fool going 40 mph. The biggest blurs we saw were some species of Bimmer, too fast to tell which big one it was, and a white Maser.
I think it's safe to say the black beast in this video is going at least twice as fast as the taping car.
@Come&VetteMe: Just looking at the screencap of the rear end posted there--doesn't look like round/oval taillights, it looks like one-piece Infiniti-style lamps with a spoiler above.
I can't watch the video for myself...apparently LiveLeak is deemed "pornography" by my employer.
@jduffy13: Hahaha...more like the "pre-set" categories that the corporate web filters use. IT buys these things off-the-shelf and I don't think they customize them much.
Isn't it funny how we get off-subject? Everyone is trying to identify the car, but I think there's but one response to the question of speed. I'll venture in the 250 MPH range, anyway.
@timtoolman: Ok, so what is the frame rate of this video and what is the length of the white lines on the road. Once you can figure that out the rest is just simple math.
I tried to get a good look at the bow in the mirror as it approaches, but there just isn't enough caffeine in my system to click the buttons that fast. The front in the mirror, in the split second I can see it, looks Porschey.
If you pause it right you can see the car approach in the wing mirror. The front looks like it could be a ZR1, but the back still confuses me. Also, the crease on the door and the angles at the base of the window don't correspond to a 'vette.
@c0de: @The Name's Ash78, Housewares: @jbownsabmw but still wants GM to survive: It definitely looks like a g37, but can a g37 really go that fast? At the speed that car was travelling (I assume minimum 175 mph) you would probably need more power than a g37 has. This video just confuses me.
@c0de: I believe the 155mph limiter is ECU-based and is an "unofficial" agreement among various car manufacturers (especially the Germans). I don't think it's power-limited or drag-limited for a lot of cars, so I think it could easily be defeated by a performance chip. Plus, this thing is probably forced induction and who-knows-what-else.

So Ash, are you admitting to looking at pr0n previously at work?
And they still let you keep your job?
Pretty lenient employer I'd say. You ain't working at Toyota!
