2011 lexus lf-a
A late night shakedown and track familiarization run ahead of the start of the Nürburgring 24H race ended with Toyota dealing with a damaged Lexus LF-A. No official reason was given for the accident, but while the team was dealing with the busted front bits and torn up tail, the sneaky spies at KGP got down to work. The stealthy photogs snapped off some clear-as-day shots of the V10 engine, stripped down interior, suspension, carbon fiber under body tray and some very C2 Corvette-like door handles. Of course, this being a race car, we can only take hints from this set up, as it's been prepped for the track, but what we can do point and laugh at the car's lap times.

2011 Lexus LF-A Closeup Video From Nurburgring
Some lucky fool has captured video of the 2011 Lexus LF-A bombing around some track called the Nurburgring and it's making a positively glorious sound. As it screams down the straights, a sweet F1-like wail emerges from ToyMoCo's pending supercar and we couldn't be more surprised or intrigued by this auditory information. Yes, the brakes make a pretty gnarley squealing noise as it's pulling into the garage, but that's no concern at this point in the development process. Unlike the previous versions we've seen, this one appears to be the fixed rear wing version being set up for the 36th ADAC Zurich 24h Race 2008 at Nurburgring.More »

The 2011 Lexus LF-A — or maybe it's the 2010, or even 2012, depending on reports — supercar's been shot by the quick to the snap spy photographers at KGP. The speedy little spy shooters caught the supercar-to-be as it appeared to be getting ready to hit the Nürburgring. They're expecting hot laps won't be far behind, but we're wondering what's taking the super number one best awesome automaker from the land of the rising sun from gettin' 'er done with their first entry into the world of super car performance. It's been like, what, almost three years already since the Lexus LF-A first started hitting the auto show circuit? And in that time we've seen more versions of the LF-A concept than we're able to keep track of. We distinctly remember at least, you know, like three — one in 2005, a revised LF-A concept at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show and the roadster concept as well as definitive word we'll be seeing our dreams of a sexy luxe cousin to the son of Supra come true, plus a price point of around $170K. So, we're still talking about something like a six-year development cycle here, aren't we?

Last night had us all in a tizzy over the draped convertible in the Lexus exhibit. Now only hours later we know its the 2008 Lexus LF-A Roadster Concept. The Detail sheet is lovely for this one: mid-front mounted 500 hp out of a V10, speed adaptive rear wing, carbon fiber and aluminum body adding up for a top speed over 200 mph. Could these be the details of the upcoming production LF-A? We certainly hope so.

AutoSpies.com has lived up to their name this evening and they've got pics of a heretofore unknown Lexus convertible concept posted up. After huddling up for a minute, the best minds Jalopnik have to offer must admit that we have nothing on this car. Is it the production version of the LF-A Convertible we saw at pebble beach, the LF-C? Is it a one off superlux concept? We don't know, but stay tuned for more as we dig into this story. At the very least, we'll be bringing it to you live as soon as is humanly possible.

Loose-Lipped Lexus Lovers Claim LF-A Laps Nurburgring In Record Time
File this gossip under T for "Toyota REFUSES to be shown up by the Nissan GT-R." According to World Car Fans, Auto Express and Japanese car mag Holiday Auto are claiming that the new 552 horsepower Lexus LF-A has set a record lap around the Nurburgring at somewhere around 7 minutes and 24 seconds, which should top times set by the Pagani Zonda F and the Porsche 911 GT2 of 7:27 and 7:32/7:25, respectively. This is still all a rumor and has probably followed the same telephone tree that gave us the teacher's strike and purple monkey dishwasher. [World Car Fans]

Lexus LF-A: It's Got a V10
Those right wacky Brits at AutoExpress say they have the scoop on the Lexus LF-A, caught recently during a track-testing session. AE says the V8 vs V10 debate is over, with the V10 taking a victory lap. The ten banger, producing at least 500 hp, is based on Toyota's former F1 powerplant, AE says. According to reports, Toyota bosses have also revealed the LF-A will have "the ultimate weight balance," presumably 50-50, despite its front-engine orientation. Word is, there's no Supra replacement in the works; this six-figure job may be the closest we'll get. More »

Spy Photos: Lexus LF-A at Speed
Don't be alarmed by the growl you'll hear when you click over to this video from Edmunds Inside Line. It's just the snarly 5.0-liter V10, they say. That's the expected powerplant for the production LF-A, the car Lexus hopes will bring it to the mattresses with Aston Martin and Porsche. Considering the specs discussed, a top-speed of 200 mph isn't unreasonable to expect from this flagship car of the Lexus F (fast) performance sub-brand. Mo-sports cachet, thy name will be Lexus? Detroit Auto Show: Latest Toyota LF-A Concept
Lexus has "reshaped, redetailed and redefigned" its ongoing LF-A concept project, such that the latest model is closer to a market-ready vehicle, according to a press release that dropped out of the leaden Detroit skies this afternoon. That means the LF-A is edging ever closer toward the long-awaited, six-figure Lexus supercar projected to hit by century's end. No V8 in this boy — it's got a mid-mounted 500+ hp V10 and a probable top speed of 200 mph. In a bull market, that is. More »

Report: Toyota Sports Car to Get Hybrid Powertrain
There's more chatter in the pipeline about a possible hybrid powertrain coming in a Toyota-built sports car. Earlier this year, Autocar reported the supercar based on ToMoCo's LF-A concept (and due in 2008) would get a performance-tuned version of Toyota's Hybrid Drive system — a realization of from the company's Alessandro Volta concept of 2004. Now, AutoExpress reports (in a vaguely worded piece) a "Son of Supra," powered by the Lexus 450h's 3.5-liter V6 hybrid system, is on the way for 2009, with a concept version debuting in Detroit early next year. That car will go head to head with Nissan's GT-R coupe, expected for 2008. There's a rumor the hybrid will also get a turbo boost, but that's far from confirmed. [Thanks to Dave for the tip.] More »

Spy Photos: A Little More on the 2008 Lexus LF-A
We've seen the same Lexus LF-A prototype being tested on the N rburgring for over a year, and we've even seen what may be a spider version. But still, Lexus refuses to let on even a little to its plans to build the $100,000 supercar. As Car and Driver notes, the company has butched up the supposed production model to put some distance between it and the Tiffany-box concept introduced in Geneva last year. Between C&D and AutoWeek, it's a tossup whether the LF-A's mid-mounted engine will be a V10 or a V8, but something in the 500-hp range is assured. Also, C&D deduces that the inclusion of a fixed rear wing could mean Lexus wants to top the new Audi R8's top end, perhaps even pushing the twin-century mark. Nonetheless, all this proves is that something's coming in late 2007, and it'll be fast. More »

Over the Back Fence: Toyota to Build Hybrid LF-A?
According to the UK's Autocar Toyota's working on a version of its upcoming LF-A supercar that's powered by the company's Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The move was telegraphed back in 2004, when Toyota unveiled its hybrid-drive Alessandro Volta supercar at the Paris motor show in 2004. More »

Showdown 2008: Nissan GT-R to Meet Lexus LFA on Corvette's Turf
AutoWeek, deep into its future products predictions, reports on a couple of Japanese performance cars that could redefine the sportscar landscape. The first is the long-awaited, all-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R, which AW says will arrive as a 2008 model. It'll largely be a competitor to the Chevrolet Corvette, immune from Japanese competition for decades, and priced in the $60,000 range. From Lexus, the LF-A — introduced in concept form at the 2005 Geneva show — will reportedly vault the brand over Porsche in the sports-car wars. To be unveiled in fall 2007, coinciding with the Japan Formula One race moving to Toyota's turf, the LF-A, says AW, will get a 500-hp V8, not the V10 as had been in the works. The price had been reported to be $170,000, placing it in range of Aston Martin and out of the range of all but the most well heeled. Set your calendars now. More »
