Why does everyone on here hate Japanese cars....i have seen ferraris and porsches on fire...but heaven forbid if it is japanese it is automatically bad.
@mricyfire: No one hates Japanese cars. Almost everyone hates Toyota because they're a c*cktease when it comes to sports cars, and because they make appliances like the Camry.
Then you have a few people who hate Asian drivers, but that is a different story. The rest of the people hate BMW drivers. The rest of the rest hate Hybrids, and there are a few who hate trucks.
Nobody hates El Caminos or Rancheros. Except for me.
@leavethegun-takethecannoli: I know it's all ripping on Toyota, but man... what the hell is wrong with people?
It's like it's suddenly become okay to just have blind hatred and express it on every single Toyota article.
The LF-A isn't my personal favorite, but you have to give credit to any company that is racing right now, especially one whose CEO is going to drive in the race.
My guess is that most of the people whining have hated anything not American for a long time, and who now have been allowed to whine and cry openly by the general shift in attitude toward Toyota.
I mean, for heaven's sake - it's a *car company*. Beyond that, it's a car company that has put out many classic sports cars, and lost money on most of them, but is trying again with a sure money loser. We also know they are doing something in the way of the Toyobaru.
I dunno - I'd expect a car enthusiasts site to have a bit more enthusiasm and a bit less hatred.
There are 1001 reasons to hate Toyota, the biggest reason being they haven't built a car worth a shit since the mid-90's MR2 Turbo (no the Supra and that faux M3 turd don't count)
Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing how Lexus can manage to make a 500hp, front-mid V10-engined supercar boring. That, of all things, is the biggest engineering challenge they have faced. But, with them being Lexus, I have no doubt they will succeed with aplomb.
I watched the parade of Toyota racers last summer at Laguna Seca- Celica, GT2000, IMSA GT2 car. The high point came when the GT2000 got loose at the top of the corkscrew, overcompensated and spun backwards across the gravel. The IMSA car had to take evasive action to avoid the little GT as it shot back onto the track- ass-first.
Other than that, I haven't seen much toyota racing drama outside of letting Paulie Shore behind the wheel in the Long Beach Grand Prix Celebrity race.
Toyota, goddamnit, I'm on my hands and knees... I've loved you for a long time, perhaps irrationally in recent years, but old flames don't die so easy... Please give me a reason to feel what I feel! You're going to sell enough of them so that people will respect you again, and you're not going to sell enough to significantly alter your CAFE numbers, Toyota...
@A stʁolling playeʁ: I think it's time to let it go, sweetie. They're only going to bring you heartache and pain. (And by "heartache" and "pain", I mean "boredom" and "more boredom".)
Have you seen the lovely things being produced by the Volkswagen Group lately?
@Deartháir: C'mon, babe, you know how I feel about the VAG. You know I almost bought a GLI. You know about my shirt. We can coexist. We can work together. We can make a comeback.
@A stʁolling playeʁ: But what about the jellybeanrrific glory that is the Previa in your icon?
I spent a couple weeks roaming the Southwest in one of those when I was 12. My most vivid memory is the spacious second-row seat and the wonky hump under the floor where the engine was housed. It was a reasonably average and yet oddly quirky car. Perhaps there is some pent-up lunacy in Toyota somewhere.
@stoke: The Previa is an amazing machine. My mom used to have one. Two sunroofs, and the centre captain's chairs swivelled around to make it a tiny limousine. It was outstanding. And you could have one with a 5 speed and a supercharger. And it's mid-engined, so it's practically a formula one car!
And it was discontinued in 1997. The same year Toyota stopped bringing the Supra to the United States. At least we still had the MR2... but that was axed ten years later.

This can't be a Lexus... because that CLEARLY isn't boring.
Maybe the 500hp V10 caused a conflict with the Boring that the Lexus couldn't recover from, and that's why it caught fire?

Honda killed the next-gen NSX, so there's nothing motivating Toyota to release it.
Toyota has been fucked for some time.
