@Ash78: @Ash78: I heard the corolla has an even more sophisticated remote touch system. Driving it is like reading a book, you need a good imagination.
@leavethegun-takethecannoli: It's not just the Corolla. I like my sienna and all, but the driving dynamics sucks compared to the Odyssey. The only reason why I got what I did was that I knew the Odyssey had transmission problems in the model years I could afford. And don't even start me on the other manufacturers versions. Here's the problem with Toyota: Every car guy hates them, but then your mother asks you what she should buy, and you almost have to say "the Camry" as you cry just thinking of driving that POS. However, with the Malibu and Fusion out, I have no qualms with completely crushing Toyota's "cars" and calling a spade a spade. Driving a Toyota is nothing more than playing Wii.
I just realized wood accents on a car that is supposed to be helping the environment. If we are going all greenpeace and hybridizing a small luxo vehicle shouldn't it be made of recycled fancy cardboard?
@banner77amc: Any excuse to get rid of wood (accents that is) in cars is fine with me. Especially on this car, they way they placed it here and there just to get some in, is horrible.
Same can be said of the leather... which sounds oh so luxurious to buyers, but it actually is just a side product of the giant meat industry and cheap as anything, but the chemical processes they use to prepare the leather are far from ecologic.
On the plus side they used a lot of organic plastics.
@rlj676-new job, same problems: The wood has no function, it is mere decoration.. so omitting the wood is a saving. The wood in Lexus is real wood, but as in all cars laminate.. so a fine strip glued to a plastic base.
You cannot see it as a decomposable or renewable since it is glued to the plastic.
Cardboard is a wood based product, but can be recycled many times over without adding much new material..
Almost all leather production and coloring is still far from ecologic but it is the farming of meat machines (they were once cows) that is the big disaster.. and I love steak.
All true, but you gotta break a few eggs to make an omlette.
My point is, the tiny bit of wood (which is renewable) isn't really killing some ecosystem, and in the coming years leather production will be much less caustic.
Also, faux leathers are coming very far, as I was just at a supplier booth at NAIS that had a very cool "leather" substitute I really liked. They talked up it's "greenness" (which I don't really care about), but it was very cool, and could be grained in ways other than leather.
So as the Onstar system will tell you where to get another greasy cheeseburger to clog your arteries, will this system guide you to the nearest Panera Bread so you can have a lite lunch as you cruise about in your Camry?
...As an added bonus to Lexus drivers, Zagat's best-in-breed restaurant content will also be available via Destination Assist.
Oh, I guess not. So Toyota drivers will have to search endlessly for healthy food, while Lexus drivers get to have advise as to where to eat provided for them.
I tell you what Jalopnik. I would be more than happy to test this system out and see what type of support they can provide. Please. I'll go pick up the Lexus, test drive it, abuse the in car services, and write woefully about how the in car assistant couldn't guide me to the nearest massage parlor or gentlemens club that has particularly homely women with loose morals, many of whom would be impressed by a man with a car that talks.
Plus for those of you whom know what it is I do for a living, I'm sure I can void the warranty by attaching a variety of Thermofrazzes to it.

There carpet to the left of the brake pedal would be all worn out, and the firewall might be dented.
I'd probably accidentally tear that knob out the first time I accelerated up an onramp.

There's a very good chance that "wood" is faux laminate.
Also, using wood in a car is actually better as it's renewable, and decomposes. In addition, cardboard is a wood product as well?
There are newer leather processes in place that are far less caustic than traditional methods, so that is improving.
