Hah! Apparently 31% of Jalopniks are utter FOOLS to pass up this lovely piece of Swedish steel. In Sweden, its nickname is Valp (=puppy), cause it's so fun to play with. #1967volvolaplander

I'm not forking over 9 large when there's not even a yardstick in the picture to tell you how tiny this high-center of gravity side-slider is. For all you drooling guys know, it's no bigger than a VW bug.
Then again, I faltered at the round brake and clutch pedals. I haven't seen a round set of pedals since my friend sold his 50's Plymouth. Ah, the sound that clutch made when you released it.
    But I digress.
This is not crack, it's an opium den dream. WAKE UP! #1967volvolaplander

Definitely nice price. Finally a van where a viking-themed mural makes perfect sense! #1967volvolaplander

Slow but steady forever with the B18, and the Gulf Oil scheme is weird enough to stick, though I personally would've gone for blue with yellow.

My 244 just ain't square enough today. That's a pretty Nice Price. #1967volvolaplander

In the cold, hard, faded lapis light that is reason, however, this is crack pipe. A very nice C303 (if you can find one) can be had for well under $20K, and it's lot more capable (and maybe more comfortable).

But just look at it. It has Jeep FC awesomeness in a van form that Jeep never made in numbers (well, the Spanish did).

The wiki says it's an L3314HT and that it also has a differential brake (LSD?). #1967volvolaplander

I said nice price for a couple reasons. 1. there can't be more than a handful of these things left running around so you have the rare factor.
    2. all the extras that go with it make it a pretty good value considering how much it would cost you to buy all that stuff for any other 4x4. this is considering that they all work.

I wouldn't buy it because I don't live out in the middle of the rugged wilderness but, if i did i would definitely consider it. I would also stock up on parts. #1967volvolaplander

I've never even heard of the Laplander before, much less ever seen one. It weighed over 4,000 pounds dry, which must have given that 65-hp engine something to think about. Not for those in a hurry. Sales info is scant, but it looks like these jacked-up tissue boxes command some fairly serious money, so I guess $9,000 is a Nice Price. The matching trailer is a cute touch.

The most butch Volvo ever? Er, that's not saying much, is it? After all, it was built for an army that hasn't seen any real combat since 1814 outside of the occasional peacekeeping mission.

@Graverobber: I was going to tell the commentariat that Ice Station Zebra is a great novel by Alistair MacLean, turned into a probably terrible movie. I stand corrected. Anything with Patrick McGoohan has to be pretty good. #1967volvolaplander

@Timtoolman, going ASH: The movie is fairly watchable for a 1968 Cold War thriller, and you can catch it once in a while on Turner Classic Movies. No gooey romance to get in the way of the action (it starred Rock Hudson, after all, and his romantic preferences were beyond the pale for mainstream movies back then). The underwater special effects were pretty impressive for the time - it even won a couple of Academy Awards. #1967volvolaplander

And now, in the same unpronounceable vein, Lapplander. Well, actually, I can say that. But the only thing that keeps this from being the Jolly Blue Giant's lunchbox is a big ol' handle on the roof. And I might be strongly inclined to add one.

It's compelling and quirky, two very highly desireable traits I hold near and dear. But also dear is the price. That's just too much. It's a thousand years old and powered by an annoyingly sturdy engine that will never break badly enough that I get to hog it out and bolt in something fun. The shape is an issue - some cars, like the BMW M1, look fast even sitting still. The Lappsitter is going to look slow even plummeting off a cliff. Four-wheel drive and a military background are going to inspire me to get mightily stuck, broke, and way the hell away from both AAA and the Autozone which won't have parts for my weird, quirky, slow but rugged lunchbox.

Crack Pipe. But if I had the money, I'd probably buy it anyway. It's bad for me. That's why it's crack. #1967volvolaplander

Given that my 4x4 is presently stuck in the clay snot that passes for my back yard, and will remain there until the ground dries out, that winch is worth a premium. So is the fact that you will never pass yourself going the opposite direction in this. Swede price! #1967volvolaplander

I'd have to get a closer look to make any decision but my initial impression is nice price and the coolness factor is right off the charts. #1967volvolaplander
