    A proper Lamborghini Hybrid should run alternatively on:


    1) High-end escorts that can plug their Hoohaas directly into a power receptacle on the dash;


    2) Chest and back hair that is hand ripped from those people you see on beaches wearing speedos, and naturally;


    3) Lots and Lots of Cocaine.

    They're working on this already. The LP560-4 reduced the emissions by 18% compared to the standard Gallardo, while ADDING a few HP.

    I would drive a Lambo with a hot Audi V12 TDI. I would not consider any manner of hybrid, though. Can't these specialty automakers get some sort of exemption to the fuel economy standards? After all, it's not like Ferrari or Lamborghini make any mass-production high volume sales vehicles.

    @Old_Car_Guy: No doubt, if someone gave it to me. However, if I had the money, and I was about to spend 300,000 of my hard earned dollars on an exotic race car, I wouldn't want to sink it into to some experimental drivetrain that may or may not deliver the best performance.

    Also a high-performance diesel could be awesome, look at what Audi has done on the track.


    What's the rev limit on diesels nowadays? Anybody know?

    I don't really see too much wrong with the idea from an enthusiast standpoint. This is simply an evolution of the automobile. Will it be different? Certainly. But does that necessarily mean that it is a bad thing? Not at all. And for those who are unwilling to accept any substitute, I am sure that they would still offer a gas engine as an option.

    @pauljones: Indeed. If for some reason, electric vehicles had caught on in the 1920s instead of gasoline cars, all of today's V8 fans would be screaming about how many watts their electric motors produce.

    @pauljones: Does it matter so much on a Camry? No. But Ferrari and Lamborghini are supposed to be uncompromising examples of engineering and performance, and this is sad.


    It's because this isn't a NATURAL evolution of the automobile, driven by technology and the quest for something better. It's a change that's being rammed down our throats by quasi-fascist ruling class that feels they know better than everyone else.

    @Almostbanned: No one forced Lambo to do anything. They just realized that electric propulsion technology is going to get a lot better very soon. They would be foolish to not start exploring it.

    actually, i'd say electric propulsion is already far better in every aspect:

    - higher torque

    - super-flat torque curves across a humongous RPM range

    - can turn on/off in an instant

    - can recapture energy

    - smaller and lighter

    - lower heat output


    the only problem is electric storage, but that's definitely improving.
