The car is based on Lamborghini's height-adjustable sports chassis and gets some ravishingly expensive central locking wheels, a carbon fiber body kit of some extent, bespoke spoiler and carbon fiber seats along with interior carbon fiber widgets. The polished stainless steel exhaust is the only performance improvement, adding 29HP and 15 lb-ft of torque to the output of the 5.2-liter V10 for a total of 581 HP and 413 lb-ft of torque. Lightened to 2,800 pounds and fitted with a new 570 HP race-tuned 5.2-liter V10, the Lamborghini LP560-4 GTRs are shown here fighting it out during the third race of the first season at the Adria Raceway in Italy. <![CDATA[Fifth Gear Plows Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Through The Snow]]> We want to be like Tiff Needell when we grow up. In this week's Fifth Gear, Tiff gets his hands on a green Lamborghini LP560-4 he calls Kermit and hits the snow, sans traction control.

The Fifth Gear crew (apparently also known as "Top Gear" to one confused writer over at Edmunds Inside Line) heads to the snowy Italian Alps with the 5.2-liter V10-powered 552 HP Lambo, and proceeds to the nearest ice track.

Of course he gets the Lambo wide open without traction control as soon as possible, because honestly, who among us wouldn't? But, when that novelty wears off, Tiff turns the stability nannies back on to see just how good the raging bull is on the slippery stuff. Turns out it's darn impressive at protecting you from yourself, juggling power output, brake control and all-wheel-drive bias to keep the car going in the proper direction.

But what fun is that? By the end of the clip the traction control accidentally comes off again and it's oversteer and rooster tails all around. [WCF]

<![CDATA[Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo To Be Fastest One-Make Series ]]> If you've got $260,000 in between the couch cushions then Lamborghini suggests you drop that money on the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo racing series set to launch on May 3 at the Silverstone Circuit in the UK. For that change you get a track-modified Lamobrghini LP 560-4 stripped down to 2,800 pounds and sporting 570 HP to race against 29 other similarly setup vehicles in the fastest one-make series in the world. That sum, sadly, does not cover fees or taxes. Act now because one of those vehicles is reserved for a "celebrity guest" and we're hoping that definition will be stretched to include automotive journalists. Lamborghini Super Trofeo Impressive results in early testing

Automobili Lamborghini has today announced The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo – the world’s fastest one-make series. The series will debut in May 2009, and feature Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo: a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP 560-4 super sports car launched earlier this year. The Super Trofeo will come with a reworked chassis, significantly reduced weight of only 1300 kg, and power output of 419 kW (570 hp) from its V10, ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’ engine.

Lamborghini has a clear objective to ensure the Super Trofeo is the fastest one-make series in the world.

The race car will feature Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive, making the Super Trofeo the only one-make, all-wheel drive motorsport series. Lamborghini will build cars for a 30-strong grid, available to individual professional and ‘gentleman’ drivers, as well as Lamborghini dealer teams. One factory car, reserved for celebrity ‘guest drivers’, will be included in the line-up at each round. Lamborghini Gallardo

The first competition of the 2009 provisional calendar will run on 3 May at Silverstone Circuit in the UK, followed by Adria in Italy on 17 May; Nuremburg’s Norisring in Germany on 5 July; Spa in Belgium on 2 August; Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya in Spain on 20 September; and culminating on 4 October in Monza, Italy. At Monza in ‘the world’s fastest one-make series’.

With the Swiss watchmaker as title sponsor, The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will run over European race weekends alongside other prestigious series such as the FIA GT Championship, DTM and FIA WTCC (World Touring Car Championship). Either one or two drivers can register for each three-day race weekend, comprising of free practice and qualifying
sessions, and three 40-minute races during Saturday and Sunday. The results of the three races are added together: no success ballast is added to winning cars, and the cars cannot be modified during the season.

The Super Trofeo car and parts package is offered at 200,000 euro plus tax and entry fee, via Lamborghini dealerships, with support and parts trackside. The prestigious ‘Lamborghini Village’ will provide a luxurious paddock package in true Lamborghini style, for drivers, sponsors and guests.

The Super Trofeo race car is based on the Gallardo LP 560-4, powered by the new 5.2 litre V10 direct injection ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’, engine, generating an increased output of 419 kW (570 hp). Its power flows through the e.gear six-speed robotized gear box to the permanent all-wheel drive with viscous traction.

The Super Trofeo is a top-class race car in every detail. Its chassis, featuring double wishbone suspension all round, has been reworked specifically for the purpose. The slick tyres are supplied by Pirelli and a specialist racing brake system provides brutal stopping power. The race car weighs in at only 1,300 kg dry, despite its additional safety cage. Additional body components such as the large, fixed rear wing are made from carbon-fibre composite. The cockpit includes ultra-light racing seat, racing steering wheel and specialized instruments.

As the successor to the best-selling Lamborghini of all time, the new LP 560-4 Spyder combines the Coupé’s design, performance and handling characteristics with the open-air pleasure only a soft top super sports car can deliver.

As the brand’s largest global market, the United States – specifically Southern California - was strategically chosen as the perfect location to unveil the new open top super sports car. In 2007, Southern California contributed to approximately 30 percent of all Lamborghini sales in the United States, maintaining its position as the country’s most successful region.

“The LP 560-4 is the best example of the Gallardo to date and will be a great contribution to Lamborghini’s future success,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The entirely new LP 560-4 Spyder adds another dimension to the Gallardo’s lineage with extreme design language and class-leading performance.”

The much anticipated Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder offers a new 5.2 liter engine with 40 additional horsepower than its predecessor; allowing it to sprint from 0-62 mph in only four seconds with a top speed of 201 mph. The car’s agility has also been greatly refined with a new, lighter transmission, which allows increased shift times by 40 percent (Corsa Mode), combined with an all-new chassis, suspension and Lamborghini’s permanent all-wheel drive system. Despite increased performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 18 percent.

Since 2003, more than 8,500 Gallardos have left the production facility in the birth place of all Lamborghinis in Sant’Agata, Bolognese, Italy. The Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé was first unveiled to the world at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008 with the dynamic launch taking place in Las Vegas later that spring. Each person who experienced the new Gallardo on the track or the streets unanimously agreed: the Gallardo LP 560-4 is an all-new car that can be enjoyed on any driving surface. Since, the new Gallardo has been critically acclaimed by customers and the media for its extreme performance, aggressive design and increased drivability. <![CDATA[Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder Drops Top Ahead Of LA]]> The Lamborghini LP 560-4 Spyder's dropped its top in press photos that have made their way to the web ahead of an expected debut later today at the LA Auto Show. The newest amped-up Lambo gets the body of Gallardo convertible and the powertrain of the LP 560-4, that means a 5.2-liter V10 engine with 560 HP and 398 lb-ft of torque, good for a top speed of 201 MPH after a 0-62 MPH run of a speedy 4 seconds. Awfully speedy in the hardtop but we'll have to see how that stands up for the convertible.

The most amusing part of the whole car, to us anyway, is the piece of glass between the seats. Normally those are put back there to keep your hair in place and allow a conversation to carry on. In this case it'll probably do the first job fine, but we have a feeling an open top with a that high strung Italian V8 wailing away inches behind your head will have something to say in all your conversations. So what did they think of the new Lambo and the just-as-new 5.2-liter V10 and its 560 HP and 398 lb-ft of torque?

What do you think they thought — it sucked? Hmm, wethinks not. And we'd be right. PopMech's Basem Wasef thought the LP560-4 was an "entertaining drive at any speed." Specifically,

"when revs are high and the V10 is working hard, the LP560-4 is in its element, though it exhibited more flexibility at lower rpms than we were expecting. Launch control is activated with ESP off, Corsa mode selected and both pedals depressed until the engine revs to 5000 rpm; lift the brake, and you'll be whacked into your seat with a thud of satisfying, skid-free acceleration."

While in town, Winkelmann dropped the news that Lambo's finally decided to create a separate sales arm for their North American operations. What took them so long? Our little slice of the global pie of land mass represented 41% of sales of the 2,406 units sold last year by the bull-headed brand and California represented almost one-third of those. So, where else would they choose to place their new U.S. headquarters? Detroit? Right, not so much. Yes, the updated V10 makes 552 HP. Yes, the new car weighs 44lbs less than the original Gallardo. But none of that really matter unless you're behind the wheel on an open road. So why is it that we can't get enough of the little Lambo?

Simply put, the LP560-4 is gorgeous. This isn't just a mid-cycle model refresh that's been tacked on, its a series of subtle tweaks that make the Gallardo feel like a baby Reventon. The new shade of matte white paint is fantastic. Plus, it's soothingly smooth to the touch. And after all, we sure are suckers for good-looking, unattainable Italian... cars.

As we already know, it's got a 5.2-liter V10 560 ps (552 hp). We've yet to corner the Lambo people to get the dirt on what makes this engine similar to the Audi RS6's V10, so suffice to say the LP560-4 is lighter than the base Gallardo by around 44lbs and comes in at least two "colors." Five out of five statuesque Italian models agree.
