    Having been there not knowing if you are get on the bus or step in front of it that day, it begins to look like the best option... when you nothing left to live for, your addition has taken your dreams away from you. You are in the depths of the pit of despair, you can't take enough drugs to stop the pain and all you want is the pain to stop.

    What drug is going to give you such an unfair advantage in a NASCAR race? Was it not a performace enhancing thing? Perhaps meth helps pass the time while going in circles.

    This is the kind of story that reinforces the need to have zero tolerance for drug abuse in professional sports. Manny Ramirez better make good use of his 50-game suspension to clean up his act.

    @Graverobber: Drugs alone won't lead someone to this, they may contribute, they may be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back", but the root cause is something else.

    @MissingPieces: Not true. It takes a lot of guts to kill yourself. I've been there, had the gun in my hand, held under the chin... couldn't do it.

    @MissingPieces: Get some perspective. In many cultures it is an honorable option in some circumstances. For patients with agonizing terminal disease, it's a release.

    Attitudes like yours help make suicidal thoughts taboo to discuss. Congratulations on adding to the problem!

    No matter how bad it gets, life is worth living. I don't know what happened to him that made him want to do it, but I'm sure he had his reasons.

    My philosophy: Dealing with life's pain is harder than a bullet to the brain.
