    The production process and end results reminds me nostalgically of my High School Cafeteria.


    There are hog farms in VA and they often buy up out of code milk because, y'know, the hogs can't read the expiration dates.

    This actually pisses me off, I grew up on a hog farm, and this guy is completely batshit insane. Please understand this. Hogs are not raised this way, they are not fed like this. They are generally fed a dry feed that is mostly ground corn, soybean meal, and vitamins/minerals/protein supplements.

    @Alfisted: I don't think so, one of our neighbors went to Germany as an exchange student and lived on a farm, and he never told any stories like that completely disgusting stuff.


    No I think it's a crazy old man in the desert thing. It's just unfortunate that he's been on TV and now the tubes and millions of ignorant people are gonna think somehow that pigs are raised like that.

    @jpech: Yeah, that looks like a pretty wet mix.


    There's a top-notch cheeesemaking dairy not too far from me, their custom-made feed mix is sweet grains, mineral supplements, and a great big ol' front loader scoop of distillers grains. Whoo! Downwind of that bay on a hot day is a heady experience.

    @jpech: Thanks for clarifying this. I've seen other pig farms, and I had seen an operation such as this before. I think this guy is a cheap-ass who doesn't want to pay to feed his hogs.

    @jpech: Well, some hogs in the US are raised in this manner (this guy is from the US after all). I grew up on a farm (cattle and sheep) and know hog farmers here in Indiana - none of them use this wet mix operation. However, if you were to get a lot of free leftovers, this would seem to be a viable alternative to growing your own grain or buying it (even less efficient).

    @MOPAR-MAN: I'd get home from school, drop off books and do a bathroom stop right before running back out again for practice, and snarf a bunch of bacon on my way out the door.


    Mom was a bit mystified where the bacon was going. "How come I never see a frying pan in the sink, then?"


    "Well, I just grab it and go. It's ready to eat, like baloney, right?"


    "No!" She covered her eyes. "You've been eating it RAW!?"


    "Well, I haven't been cooking it."


    "Ugh. I've raised a savage."


    Even now, walking through the breakfast meats aisle makes me hungry. I could snarf down half a pack of raw bacon right now.

    Also, pretty cool that they use food scraps...better than filling up the landfill or using more Monsanto corn.,
