And the winner is....smalleyxb122! Again, lots of great ideas but the bent wrench landau bars put him over the top. Now that Vince the Sham Wow guy may be temporarily out of a gig, I'll see if he can deliver the prize personally. Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions in this very serious matter.

Thank you all for your terrific ideas! There are so many great suggestions that I'll probably use a combination for the final product. Regardless, with such valuable prizes at stake, there has to be a winner which will be announced Sunday night. It's not too late for any last minute entries.

If the goal is ultimate malaise-tastic-ness then it's got to be that dark golden brown that was apparently born and died with the era as I have never seen it on a non-malaise era car.

Barney the Dinosaur themed: Purple metallic flake body with metal flake green sprayed over the vinyl. That should be enough to put you in the running for most hideous car on the road.

    "Worthy?"
This car is worthy to be painted in the ugliest shade of housepaint you can find in the 75% off "OOPS" cans at Home Depot. Make sure you use a brush or roller, no spraying allowed!

How about a two-tone glitter-and-rhinestone body in gold and silver, with matching gold lamé interior? "Ermine"-trimmed seats, of course.

@junkman: Maybe you could screw a few candelabras onto the trunk lid.

I like Murilee's idea of an ermine interior. But I'd go with live ones, even though that's a lot of weasels to wrangle. But it transmogrifies the car into more of a Captain Beefheart theme. I think that might work.

And twisted wrench landau bars is simply genius. It's up there with connecting rod turn signal mounts!

My two cents? Have it repainted in the same shade of gold metallic. I think it's the perfect color for the car. If two-tone is a must, make the main color an ivory and paint the fender bulges in the gold.

OT: What are you bringing to the Orphan Show this year, Junkman (other than your berobed self, that is)?

@Mike the Dog will work for a Preview Button!: I'm thinking Ghia 450SS for this year's Orphan Car Show. It would be a real contrast to the Powell we brought last year.

Okay, so the last two aren't exactly what I was thinking, but I wanted to offer some "classy" examples of the light blue with white top. The color on the first one is exactly what I was thinking.

I'm going to have to say Sky Blue is the best color for that car, although it may require reupholstering the seats in white or blue for the maximum effect.

    Damnit, just thought of something.

Make absolutely sure the cover for the spare tire is painted like either a psychedelic dartboard (my favorite 'sport' after WRC) or a red and white archery target.

@accept it, the global economy is hosed for a while: Just for future reference (and to be pedantic), red and white targets aren't really used in archery. For standard round paper targets it's either multicolor (Yellow, Red, Blue, Black, White) or white and blue.

Red and white targets are typically used in thrown projectile competitions (axe, knife, spear, etc).
