Well, of course the second-gen Prius is slower through the slalom than a Jetta TDI.

Hell, it's probably slower than a Mk4 TDI with the turbo off.

All in the handling - and in a car with zero steering feel and marshmallow suspension, there's not much of that.

Also, you can get a Jetta TDI with a real transmission. The Prius... well, no.

    So, bad comparison there.

References to Poland, Auschwitz and Neo-Nazis about a 'blog' by VW? You sick ignorant puppies: get an education system America that can be accessed by all of your citizens and that contains a syllabus that neither decries nor espouses creationism but considers all religions. Then stop imprisoning more people per capita than any other nation on the planet and use the money you've saved on universal healthcare. Maybe then you can research FOMOCO's German production plants illustrious contribution to the Third Reich during WWII. To the likes of Tomsk and Uglyduckcar - cheers guys, you actually look at it from a petrol/gearhead's perspective. This is about existing and proven technology beating the crap that some other manufacturers are trying to sell consumers i.e. hybrids. It's become a joke and moved right away from the real point.

@The Black Bottle: You are taking it too seriously. Maybe it is true what they say about Germans and humor... As for Ford and despotic regimes in the 1920'2 and 30's that is a well known fact. Heck, they even set up the auto plants for the Soviet Union when they wanted to start building cars. I believe it was GAZ that they worked with. The first car made in the Soviet Union was the Ford Model A. Ford also built factory wood gassification conversions for their cars that were in nations that could not get oil due to sanctions, as did GM ( I think). All in all though, lighten up a little. The war ended over 50 years ago. I think it is safe to make a few good natured jokes here and there about things not related to the *ahem* "Final Solution".

    Okay.

I don't know why he said it, but from "can be" onward it's grammatically correct.

If it had a point, it would even make sense.

I don't know too much about Diesels but in general isn't the issue not the surface temperature of the car, but rather the temperature of the block itself, which is why Block heaters are sometimes offered on both gas and diesels. I thought the whole issue stems out of the fact that everything contracts in the cold weather, so in an engine that is reliant on compression to ignite the chambers, if metal contracts, a proper seal is not kept and the proper compression could not be contained.

@Bullitt417: The big issue with diesels in cold ambient temperatures is the fact that the fuel gels.

Well, before everyone gets too wound up about corrupting the purity and innocence of a thirteen year within the realm of Jalopnik, a quick review of the MarketPlace ads in the back of the current issue of Car and Driver reveals ads for:

    -- Penis enlargement

    -- Viagra - Cialis - Levitra

-- Pheromone-laced aftershave promising to increase your sex appeal

...and some website entitled "Charm Her Socks Off.com", along with lots of T&A teasing photos. At least the "mature audience" aspect that occasionally crops up here isn't trying to dun anyone out of money...

Like 'Hot Rod' and 'Popular Science' and anything else that an old guy named Smokey Yunick had articles in.
