Cat's Eyes. Ever.]]> Automobile's speculatively rendered an all-new model Jaguar plans for the 2013 model year. It's a compact sports-car — a spiritual successor to the E-type called the Jaguar XE and it's taken front-fascia-personification to a whole new level — catsonification.

With big cat's eyes for headlights, the exterior's certainly uniquely Jaguar. Which makes sense to differentiate it with the XK, which we're told will share the same platform to keep costs down. You'll also have to check out the rear shot at the link below to show what Automobile's master-shoppers have done to the tailpipes.

As far as the engine — we'll let Automobile tell you what to expect under the hood and when we should expect it:

The powerplant of choice is a new V-6, which may eventually also be offered in high-performance 3.5-liter guise rated at about 450 hp. Although Jaguar currently lacks a dual-clutch transmission, such a gearbox could be sourced from a supplier to complement the regular six-speed manual.

Tentatively labeled XE, the new sports car also would be offered as a more spacious two-plus-two coupe and a hard-core R version, all coming within twenty-four months of the initial launch in 2013.

<![CDATA[Jaguar Registers Trademarks On C-XJ, C-XE And XE Names]]> Jaguar recently trademarked the names "C-XE," "C-XJ," and "XE." Could a spiritual successor to the classic E-Type finally be on the way? Sure, we've come close before, with the F-Type concept, but if this new name trademarked by the company is any indication, there may be another roadster in the pipeline. As was the case with the C-XF concept, which previewed the production Jaguar XF, the C-XE will likely be a concept which previews a possible production model Jaguar XE. That name is just one letter short of being XKE, the other name for the old E-Type. The above rendering from autoblog.it speculates at what might be in store.

Another name registered for copyright by Jaguar was "C-XJ," which we can only presume to be a concept version of the upcoming new 2010 Jaguar XJ. Looks like Jaguar really is serious about re-inventing themselves. [autoblog.it, MotorAuthority]
