New video has surfaced showing operations aboard China’s only aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, complete with the head of the Chinese Navy’s making a visit and J-15 fighters landing and launching. More importantly, it shows how much Chinese aircraft carrier operations have evolved.
This image, posted on the Chinese website Weibo, shows what appears to be a Chinese Su-27 Flanker derivative very similar to Russia’s Su-34 Fullback fighter-bomber. The picture coincides with rumors that a new Chinese fighter type flew recently but we have no way to authenticate the image at this time.
The Shenyang J-15 Flying Shark—the first Chinese carrier-based fighter that is designed to match and even surpass the American F/A-18E/F Super Hornet—is no longer a test prototype. This photo shows fully operative serial units on the deck of the Liaoning, People's Liberation Army Navy's aircraft carrier.
