I will qualify my unprovable comment by emphasizing that I have no idea, but I would guess most (except the 1% of really ignorant) people involved in this sort of thing don't really see it as a racial issue. I think people are sad that institutions like the Big 3 have failed so miserably and represent them and their needs about as much as the 2 political parties now do, and are just lashing out.
Still, pretty funny demonstration though. My dad was in the cops for 30 years and they all used to call the 80's Accord the "Accordion" because of how poorly it fared in major highway crashes. 6 people would climb out of the '86 Caprice Classic after plowing one of those things under, and nobody would climb out of the accord. I think people try to hearken back to those days with stupid promotions like this.

That's because you don't need to crush an American car to kill it. It self-destructs after 100k miles.

always used malaise-era american cars.... get a lot more money out of it at $5, 5 hits, 5lb. sledge.. of course... $20 for glass, 2 hits... made a lot of money... if i didn't cringe every time that i saw that hammer go towards those empty body shells, i would consider doing it now...

That totally matches the decor in my living room. Where can I buy one?

You say this displayed "domestic quality" concerns ... GM didn't manufacture the part that you said malfunctioned.

oh well man, appliance'y' as it may be... it does the job better than expected... and apparently knows the weak spots of giant-wheeled trucks that try to drive over it...
my eagle summit wouldn't prove as structurally sound.. or intelligent in the ways to defeat something that wanted to squish it... but the little bugger won't stop running.....

For example, my brother used to date a girl who's dad works for Ford. He had a Scion tC, and was not allowed to park in here parents' driveway. She drove a Fusion, because it's "American," despite being made in Mexico. Apparently, my brother and I were the only people that knew this situation and saw the irony of it. It's just so stupid.
That said, three of the four cars I've owned were assembled in Japan. The fourth was built in New Jersey (at a now-defunct plant, of course). One could venture a guess as to which vehicle tried to kill me through structural failure.

That is a military M809 series 5-ton 6x6 frame. You can see the transfer case brace.

Scavenged brake line? What, you're too good to steal your neighbours garden hose?

It sounds good now, but 50 years from now, we'll be paying restitution to the soda cans made from their recycled carcases.
