As ridiculous and redneck as I think this is, I think it's also funny how quickly people throw the "racism" and "ethnic hatred" shit around. You just can't have an article on the internet about people disagreeing without some BS racial angle thrown in. The internet is really the most walking-on-eggshells place...
I will qualify my unprovable comment by emphasizing that I have no idea, but I would guess most (except the 1% of really ignorant) people involved in this sort of thing don't really see it as a racial issue. I think people are sad that institutions like the Big 3 have failed so miserably and represent them and their needs about as much as the 2 political parties now do, and are just lashing out.
Still, pretty funny demonstration though. My dad was in the cops for 30 years and they all used to call the 80's Accord the "Accordion" because of how poorly it fared in major highway crashes. 6 people would climb out of the '86 Caprice Classic after plowing one of those things under, and nobody would climb out of the accord. I think people try to hearken back to those days with stupid promotions like this.

You don't see Japanese car dealerships crushing American cars, do you?

That's because you don't need to crush an American car to kill it. It self-destructs after 100k miles.

I bet you $5 the shitty ruptured hose was made overseas. The sad part is, promotions like this still work in a lot of the country I think (like where I live in FL, for example). They still have promotions where you can take sledgehammer shots at foreign cars from time to time, or so the radio would have me believe.

always used malaise-era american cars.... get a lot more money out of it at $5, 5 hits, 5lb. sledge.. of course... $20 for glass, 2 hits... made a lot of money... if i didn't cringe every time that i saw that hammer go towards those empty body shells, i would consider doing it now...

Since when did GM build huge lift kits and the hydraulic suspension required for this?

You say this displayed "domestic quality" concerns ... GM didn't manufacture the part that you said malfunctioned.

@philly_p: By all appearances, yes. By and large, the average American is really racist, and completely uninformed about the fact that the brand of a car is not an indicator of it's place of assembly.

For example, my brother used to date a girl who's dad works for Ford. He had a Scion tC, and was not allowed to park in here parents' driveway. She drove a Fusion, because it's "American," despite being made in Mexico. Apparently, my brother and I were the only people that knew this situation and saw the irony of it. It's just so stupid.

That said, three of the four cars I've owned were assembled in Japan. The fourth was built in New Jersey (at a now-defunct plant, of course). One could venture a guess as to which vehicle tried to kill me through structural failure.

Thats not even a real Monster truck, its just some guy with alot of money imitating the big boys. Look at the frame under the Chev, its just a beefed up normal frame instead of the tube chassis that all professional monster trucks are these days. He was probably using a homemade hydraulic hose.
