You've just been made junior partner at your law firm. You want to go fast, but you don't necessarily need to go the fastest. You want a car that handles well, but it's not like you're going to autocross it. You care about looking good but could care less if you look tough. You've got some change, but you don't want to spend all of it on a car.

Why you shouldn't buy this car:
You've just been made to chug a pitcher of Spaten Lager after being unable to name all the goalies of the previous four German World Cup teams. It is important that you be the fastest. It is more important to you that a car feels right than looks good. Price is no object. Well... price is an object, but you're willing to spend a little more and eat sugar packets for a week to get automotive perfection.

<![CDATA[ 2008 Infiniti G37S, Part Two ]]> Exterior Design: ****
The 2008 Infiniti G37S is one of the few Japanese luxury cars with the aesthetics to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Europe's best, a fact helped by the coupe's bulging, enticing shoulders. The headlights may appear a bit doe-eyed from the front, but they stretch handsomely around the front fender, starting a line that flows over the shimmering 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, then continuing below the greenhouse and towards the sloping tail. It's a design that puts the flame surfacing of the BMW 3-series coupe on ice.

Interior Design: ***
There's no doubting that this is a performance luxury car, but not because of the materials. Bathed in a soft black plastic with smoothed aluminum inserts, the textures are nice but they're not particularly sporty nor are they overwhelmingly luxurious. The leather buckets are supportive and well-bolstered, but they're not something you'll brag about. The layout is smart and the buttons are within easy reach, but it's all a bit plain. No, the reason it's clear this car is ready to perform is the seating position, which is so low that you'll pucker your cheeks as you approach speed bumps.

Acceleration: ****
Like a deceased minor character in a bad zombie movie, the G37S comes to life quicker than you'd expect. This has less to do with the wonderful 330 HP 3.7-liter V6 than it does with the clutch, which feels like it engages an inch away from the floor. It's a bit jarring, but you learn to adapt to it and it helps the coupe reach 60 mph in the mid five-second range.

Braking: ****
During a late-night acceleration test on an abandoned back road I was suddenly convinced someone's beloved pet dog was about to wander into my path and become soup. The Infiniti's vented disc brakes bit down hard enough for me to realize that the object in the distance was actually just a rock.

Ride: **
If this were the 2010 Nissan 370Z and not the G37S, the relatively rough ride would be an acceptable and expected trade-off for performance. While the G37S performs well on carefully maintained surfaces, the ride's going to be a bit too rough for the owner that plans on crossing unpreserved patches of pavement on the way to the country club. Driving down an avenue that had yet to receive proper rehab since at least the previous winter, it felt as though someone had clicked on the non-existent massage chair option.

Handling: ***
There aren't many situations where the average owner of this car is going to be unable to stay glued to the road. The quick steering, coupled with grippy summer tires, made it quite an effort to get the rear end to slide out at all. As mentioned in part one, if there's one major shortcoming with the car's handling it's that the heavy weighting of the steering wheel, combined with the quick drive-by-wire response, makes it physically taxing to drive spiritedly over a long period of time, and mentally taxing to determine just how spiritedly the car is going to respond to inputs.

Gearbox: ***
Though the shifter is well positioned and the throws are reasonably short, the six-speed manual transmission in the G37S is one of the car's weaknesses. If you're forced to drive this car in heavy traffic at frequent intervals, the newfound strength developed in your left leg will cause you to walk in circles. The clutch also picks up a new gear almost before you realize you've gotten rid of the old one.

Audio: ****
Though the interface takes some getting used to (why the hell do I have to push DISC to get a playlist on my iPod?), the Infiniti iPod connection is one of the best examples of MP3 integration we've seen. The gigantic 7-inch screen didn't connect to a GPS system and basically served as a multimedia interface, allowing me to see full playlists and song names. The Bose audio system created a crisp sound that filled the cabin and outmatched many of my low-bitrate audio files.

Toys: ***
Though a first aid kit that Velcros into the trunk may not be a toy for most people, I thoroughly enjoyed the novelty of it. Having no GPS system, the bright 7-inch screen is mostly a toy, letting the driver choose between entertainment and climate settings...and not much else.

Value: ****
An Infiniti G37 loaded with the Premium package, Sport package, $550 rear spoiler and destination charge comes in just lower than the base price for both the BMW 335i coupe and Audi A5. Though the BMW may appeal to the performance minded and the Audi has its own partisans, they're both in direct competition with the G37 and neither offer overwhelmingly superior performance or features. Cut out the $3,200 Premium package and you've got an even better deal.

Overall: ***
Having watched way too much of the Olympics, I've come to think of the Infiniti G37S as world-class gymnast, albeit one that's fought its way through countless rounds of qualifying only to take a step on the landing and somehow, mysteriously, displease the Australian judge. Its an adept performer, able to run with its European competitors but, due to a few minor technical deductions, unable to pass them for the gold.

<![CDATA[ The Ten Most Gorgeous Japanese Cars Currently For Sale ]]> They said it couldn't be done. They said compiling a list of ten gorgeous Japanese cars currently for sale was a fool's errand. What they didn't know was that in Japan the cars aren't designed to be as purposeful and uncharismatic as many of their American offerings. In fact, half of the cars on the list are not sold in the United States. And while no cars from the land of the rising sun made it onto our Ten Most Beautiful Cars list, it was easier than we thought to find these ten most gorgeous Japanese cars.

10. Nissan GT-R

It's not hard to appreciate the 2009 Nissan GT-R. Unlike almost anything on the road, this latest iteration of the famous Japanese supercar not only outperforms many of its pricier competitors, it also offers a look that's both familiar and fresh. The aggressive front and strong profile makes no secret of the GT-R's ability.

9. Mitsuoka Galue Convertible

Whereas the strange-in-the-wrong-way Orochi from Mitsuoka may be one of the ugliest cars in the world, the Mitsuoka Galue Convertible is very much strange in the right way. Based on the current-generation Ford Mustang, the carriagemakers at Mitsuoka have crafted on the front from a Rolls Royce and the rear from a CTS. It's strange, but we can't help but love it. [Photo Credit: Carscoop]

8. Nissan Teana

While the current Nissan Altima isn't unattractive, the car's Japanese cousin is downright becoming. The sedan's elongated proportions and sweeping lines are distinctly European, while the sharp headlights and large grille are particularly Nissan. Let's hope this is the direction they're going to take American Nissans sometime soon.

7. Honda S2000 Type S

As much as we like the base Honda S2000, the S2000 Type S takes the modest and becoming sports car and adds a dash of Super Potential to the equation. Though some may fault it for its large wing and aggressive ground effects, these bits not only add aerodynamic function to the S2000, they also add much needed teeth. If you've got a hankering for one, the Honda S2000 CR is fairly similar.

6. Mazda RX-8

A minor refresh this year hasn't changed the fact that the Mazda RX-8 design is getting a bit long in the tooth. Nevertheless, the RX-8 is still a head-turner. A mixture of rotary-inspired shapes and exotic details, it's a car that only Mazda could design. One of the best-looking rear 3/4 views of any GT, we're glad those rad rotarians finally added a front to match with the 2009 RX-8.

5. Daihatsu Copen

One of the favorites among Kei Car enthusiasts, the tiny Copen from Daihatsu may not be the most powerful car on the list (in fact, it's the least powerful) but it's undeniably the cutest. In the tradition of tiny roadsters, the Copen looks like something fun a British company like MG would build if British carmakers like MG weren't all owned by the Chinese and Indians. It's proof that good things do sometimes come in small packages.

4. Toyota Century

A love for the Toyota Century is a love for a car that personifies understated luxury. Way understated. The only front-engined, RWD Japanese car to get V12 power, the Century has only been redesigned twice in the last 40 years of its production. Thought it costs nearly $100,000, it doesn't have the "Look at me, look at me!" cues of a Lexus, Mercedes or Bentley. Tasteful and reserved, the Century is the luxury car of the cunning diplomat. [Photo Credit: Yehey Forums]

3. Mazda MX-5 (Miata)

In addition to being a competitive LeMons racer, the MX-5 has historically been a low-key but sleek roadster, and the latest iteration is no different. The slightly flared fenders, rounded surfaces and low profile are timeless and beautiful.

2. Toyota Mark X

One of the best looking sedans that few people have ever heard of, the sleek Toyota Mark X may be related to the American Lexus GS300 but in a way that makes us think one of the two was secretly adopted. This RWD sedan has the shapely curves of an E-Class Mercedes combined with the sloping and textured nose of an Alfa (sans the crest) and that wonderful disregard for subtlety that makes us love Japanese cars.

1. Infiniti G37

The Infiniti G37 is a coupe that just missed getting placed on our most beautiful cars list. A drastic improvement over the previous generation, the G37 practically sparkles in person. Unlike most Japanese luxury cars, the sculptors of the G37 took chances with the design. The gently raked beltline and 1980s-professional-woman wide shoulders balance the feminine and the masculine like few modern cars can. But it's the details, like the 10-spoked wheels and creased grille, that make this otherwise toned-down coupe scream.

<![CDATA[ 2008 Infiniti G37S, Part One ]]> There are those who claim to be able to reach across the ethereal plane, into another dimension, and speak with the dead. I will make no such claim. The best I could offer my friend was assistance in tracking down the plots containing his great grandfather and other relatives, buried in an Irish Catholic cemetery north of town. Aiding us in our search was the stately 2008 Infiniti G37S, which felt appropriate for this task — you don't want to visit your ancestors in an Aveo. It would look bad.

The three of us pile our gear into the G37S (first stop cemetery, second stop beach) and we notice a peculiar sign posted inside the trunk. It's an illustration of the rear of the car explaining, in three languages, how to insert a pair of golf bags. Most of the people I knew with this car's predecessor, the G35, were professional twentysomethings with jobs in graphic design and no clue how to spend their money. With this latest version it seems, superficially at least, they've jumped straight to waning midlife crisis.

After trudging through the slow moving traffic that tends to form along the commercial thoroughfares of Chicago, we reach the glorious, though brief, expanse of Lake Shore Drive leading to Evanston and our destination. I purposefully wait at the yellow light, hoping to be at the front of the line to tackle the mostly sheltered onramp. As a first test I leaned hard on the G37's go pedal when the light turned green, hoping to determine the ratio of sport to luxury in this sports luxury coupe but not expecting much. Given how relatively docile the Infiniti's V6 is at low speed I was a bit caught off guard at how rapidly we accelerated up the ramp and into traffic.

I quickly shifted into second, but barely had my bearings before the red tach needle, bathed in a purplish light, bounced against the redline. Oops. Though there's a deep engine note, the well-sealed cabin doesn't allow exterior sounds to dampen the conversation. Ours turned to the proper way to pull up the playlist of an iPod on the large screen in the center of the dash instead of a discussion of how clumsily I launched us onto the highway. It was then I realized that this is a sports car, but one designed with an eye towards hiding that fact from its passengers.

Though there's a lot that keeps the car's athletic nature from the passengers, including the sleek and modern interior, the ride over the uneven and damaged roads leading away from the highway and towards the final resting place is punishing. The plush and aerated leather seats do a decent job of absorbing the blows being translated through the suspension, which in S trim is firmed up a bit, but there's a click every time we hit the slightest bump. It turns out the sound was the clip in the rear passenger's hair hitting the rear glass. It was lucky for her she wasn't any taller.

I pull the G37S through the main arch of the front gate, which is designed to mimic the Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the end. Unfortunately, the office is closed and we have no idea where, amid the hundreds of plots, his ancestors are actually buried. Though there are narrow concrete paths through the grounds you can only do the searching on foot. After a while having no luck finding his unique last name among the typically Irish-Catholic names (Murphy, Kennedy, O'Brien) I stop to take stock of the coupe.

Compared to the even the most ornamented tributes, the G37S looks almost gaudy. Though in a more austere coat of silver, the massive chrome grille shone like a beacon when the clouds began to break and the 10-spoke wheels practically glittered. Compared to the light coat of paint, the rich red taillights are practically jewels. If the eyes of the dead are upon us, they're thinking we've come along way since the Great Famine.

The cemetery was a truly beautiful and holy place and we were all glad we came. One last time we hoped for some sort of divine inspiration to help us divine the location of the gravestone's, a voice from the other side. We had no such luck. Content that we'd tried our best we set out for the curvy roads ahead, hoping to communicate with the athletic beast lurking beneath the luxurious visage.

The aggressive sports car behind the massive grille came to life as we zipped up and down the ravine, seeming unimpressed with what we considered fun roads. The faster I pushed the car and the harder I sent it into the corners the more unconcerned it became. It wasn't an easy exercise — it took considerable effort and numerous steering inputs to keep it inline — but I was unable to find the point where the G37 was ready to cry uncle.

This apparently indefatigability initially seems like a good trait as, with most cars, the limits are all too apparent. But this didn't feel like an issue of performance but rather of communication. The car's many drive-by-wire and sensor-controlled steering systems work a bit too well, making it hard to get a feel for when the coupe is about to oversteer. The car understood my inputs, but I found it difficult to understand what the car was telling me.

In linguistics, the part of verbal communication not directly related to the phonetic sounds of the words is called prosody. When we stress certain words or draw them out we're trying to send a message, but this is a complex concept and one of the biggest reasons why KITT-like computer-human interaction doesn't work very well. Sadly, the computer inside the G37 is quite smart but it didn't seem to tell me what it planned to do next. I couldn't understand its prosodics.

After a while we gave up and moved on to the beach. We couldn't communicate with the dead and our vehicle couldn't communicate with us, but at the very least pulling up to the beach in a shiny Infiniti coupe communicates to those around us that we've arrived.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Infiniti G37S Spotted Being The Ball At Pebble Beach ]]> The updated 2009 Infiniti G37S Sedan was spotted yesterday by the folks at Supercars.net out Californee-way, on a golf course, sans license plates. That would make sense considering we're told to expect it to debut at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance this weekend. The updated G-sport sedan looks a whole lot like the current G35, with mild exterior updates to the shape of the rearview mirrors and new wheels. The big upgrade comes under the hood in the form of a bump from 3.5 liters to a 3.7 liter, 330 HP VQ-series engine hooked to a 7-speed automatic transmission — same as in the Infiniti G37 Coupe. Expect to see the G37 Sedan in dealers next month. Also expect to see more spy shots shortly.

<![CDATA[ Infiniti G37 Hard Top Convertible, Sedan, Coupe Coming To LA Auto Show ]]> Infiniti will be blowing into the LA Auto Show later this year with a bevy of new versions of their 2009 Infiniti G37, including a new hard top convertible, G37 Sedan and AWD coupe. The G37x Coupe will be an AWD sports coupe alternative for those who can't quite afford a Godzilla. The G37 and G37s sedans will finally bring over the larger, 3.7-liter VQ V6 already found in the coupe. Finally, the G37s convertible will provide a hardtop alternative to the Lexus SC and 3-series convertible. Full press release below the jump.

Nissan Releases New G-Series line

When you have a vehicle line – say the Infiniti G – that has chalked up award after award, topped comparison test after comparison test, and endeared itself to a growing legion of passionate owners, what do you do for an encore? If you happen to be a world-class performance luxury brand – say like Infiniti – the answer is simple: Everything. The popular Infiniti G roars into the 2009 model year with an extensive array of changes, including:

* The addition of an all-new Infiniti G37 Convertible model, slated to launch in the first quarter of 2009
* A new 328-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine for the Infiniti G Sedan – now designated the G37 Sedan
* A new all-wheel drive model for the Infiniti G Coupe, the G37x
* A new 7-speed automatic transmission for all Infiniti G models (6-speed manuals transmissions also available)

"A little success makes you want to try harder. A lot of success makes you want to blow the doors off the competition again – which we're poised to do with the new, intensified Infiniti G lineup for 2009," said Ben Poore, Infiniti's vice president of marketing. "Year after year we strive to offer our customers one of the freshest product lineups in the industry – which we've done again in 2009 with the new second-generation Infiniti FX, upcoming G Convertible and the enhanced G37 Coupe and G37 Sedan."

2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible

The all-new G37 Convertible, the first-ever open-air G, is set for a mid-2009 model year introduction. Based on the current G37 Coupe, the G Convertible promises stunningly seductive styling and G-worthy dynamic performance. The new G37 Convertible will feature a three-piece automatic retracting hardtop, to keep a coupe-like roofline, and available unique interior treatment. Audio and HVAC systems have been enhanced to provide an inviting experience with the top up or down. The all-new Infiniti G37 Convertible is set to make its world debut at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

2009 Infiniti G37 Sport Sedan

The Infiniti G premium high-performance sport sedan receives a significant upgrade under the skin in 2009 with the addition of a new VQ37VHR "VVEL" 3.7-liter V6 rated at 328 horsepower. It is mated to a new 7-speed automatic transmission or close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission.

Now designated as the Infiniti G37 Sedan, other major changes include new available sport brakes with 4-piston front/2-piston rear calipers and large 14-inch front and 13.8-inch rear rotors, a new sport 18-inch wheel design and standard Scratch Shield paint (self-healing clearcoat finish).

The 2009 G37 Sedan is available in four models – G37, G37 Journey, G37S Sport 6MT and G37x AWD. It goes on sale in September 2008.

2009 Infiniti G37 Sport Coupe

For 2009, the G37 Coupe's performance envelope expands with the addition of a new G37x AWD model with advanced ATESSA E-TSÔ all-wheel drive system. Also new for 2009 is a 7-speed automatic transmission with Drive Sport (DS) Mode and Downshift Rev Matching (the G37 Coupe is also available with a 6-speed manual transmission).

All 2009 G37 Coupes receive standard Scratch Shield paint (self-healing clearcoat finish). The 2009 G37 Coupe is available in four models – G37, G37 Journey, G37S Sport 6MT and G37x AWD – each with standard 330-horsepower 3.7-liter VQ-series V6 with VVEL technology. It goes on sale in September 2008.

<![CDATA[ Infiniti Readying A Nissan GT-R-Based Sedan ]]> Japanese magazine CarTop is speculating that Infiniti could be developing a new range-topping sedan based on the 2009 Nissan GT-R. Allegedly, the sedan could go on sale as early as 2011. But how similar would it really be to Godzilla? And what should we call Godzilla with two extra doors anyhow?

According to CarTop, the 2011 Infiniti GT-R would use a stretched version of the GT-R's chassis, complete with its whiz-bang AWD system, a tuned version of the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 producing nearly 500 HP, and share the same Xtronic CVT. Pricing would be about 20% higher, bringing the sedan in at around $85,000 (before speculation) on this side of the Pacific.

Jalopnik Snap Judgment
: This is probably just idle speculation. But, think of the possibility! Such a sedan would give Infiniti the range-topper it desperately needs, capable of defeating cars like the 2011 BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG on their own turf, the 'Ring. A less aggressively styled four-door could be the ultimate Q-car and finally propel Nissan's luxury brand into direct competition with the Germans while simultaneously leaving Lexus to eat its dust. On the other hand, remember what happened the last time Nissan stretched its supercar chassis, added two doors and installed an Infiniti badge? The thirsty, cramped, and unspectacular J30.

<![CDATA[ A Jalopnik Study: Does Car Logo Badge Size Correspond With Buyer Bulge Size? ]]> Did you ever notice how big badges on the front of cars are getting these days? Have you ever wondered whether it's out of a need for automakers to "compensate" for their prospective buyers lack of size? We did. So, trusty ruler in hand, we hit the dealer lots at the mega-motor-mall up the street to find out whether size really does matter and to answer the important question: Which automaker has the biggest badges, and do they correspond to the bulge in the pants of the male members of the target buying demographic? Let's find out.

For starters, we've set up some ground rules:

1) Measurements are taken across the major axis of the badge vertically or horizontally, none of that diagonal baloney.

2) Script logos where not considered. Spreading letters out is too easy. So sorry Hummer, Jeep, GMC, Land Rover and others with the name spelled out in long-hand, get a real badge.

3) Only vehicles on the dealer lot of the Troy Motor Mall in Troy, MI where considered. Thus, this field study was subject to dealer availability. However, we did find ourselves some of the fattest, juiciest dealers in all the land, so not much was left out.

Now, on to business. For starters, we decided on a test case before prowling the local sales:

Test Case: The Cadillac Escalade didn't even register on the list of the ten biggest sizes. The 'sclade sported a puny five-and-a-half-inch rear badge (by far the most prevalent size) and a six-inch diameter front badge. Surprising, right? Then we thought about the big Caddy's target market: Eight-foot-tall professional basketball players. And the new Cadillac CTS designed for investment banking weenies? An Escalade-besting 6.125" badge on its snout. So, even in this test case, maybe we're on to something. Anyway, here's the resulting badge-o-meter as proof of our contention that size matters — and an explanation of each below:

Battle-of-the-Badge.jpg

10) Mazda CX-7 and Mazda CX-9
Mazda-badge.jpgAs predicted, the nearly twin Mazda SUV's did indeed have some massive badges on them. Coming in at an impressive 7.125 inches horizontally, the big ol' badges didn't make us think "Zoom Zoom" any more than the tiny ones on the Miata. However, a male Miata driver generally needs to have pretty strong self-confidence given the public's general lack of awareness of its track performance potential — so maybe it means he's got nothing to worry about in his self-confidence in other areas.

9) Mercedes Benz R-Class
The minivan wagon Sport Activity Vehicle from Mercedes came in with a pretty substantial 7.25 inch diameter three-pointed star. The target buyer's a rather emasculated member of the male gender — the successful dad who doesn't want to seem like he's driving a minivan after he drops his kids off at school. Poor man.

8) Lincoln MKS
Lincoln-MKS-badge.jpg
The Lincoln MKS has a pretty strong upper hand in this challenge — being one of the newest cars on the lot, it knows just how far the big-badge arms race has gone. With a target market of old men on Cialis, the 7.625 inch vertical badge snags an eighth place finish, making a statement that screams "Viva Viagra!"

7) Lincoln MKX
Lincoln-MKX-badge.jpgSure, the MKX is a bigger vehicle than the MKS, so obviously it has to have a bigger logo, right? That's how the logic goes. True to form, the Lincoln MKS scores with 7.875 vertical inches of logo love. And considering the average buyer may very well be limited to bespectacled marketing metrosexuals, it makes sense they'd be even less endowed than their Viagra-popping pops driving the MKS.

6) TIE: Infiniti QX56 and Mercedes Benz C-Class
MB-Infiniti-Tie.jpgBoth of these luxury rollers offer up some whopping chrome accentuation in the form of an 8.75 inch badge on both the Infiniti QX56 and Mercedes Benz C-Class. Sounds about right since they're pretty much both wheels for the white tennis playing country club types. We've been told by our female friends they truly need all the help they can get.

5) Almost Everything Ford Makes
Ford.jpgWhat do we expect from a brand who uses a country crooner who uses his guitar as a phallic extension of his self? Anything bigger than a Focus in the Ford brand beloved-by-Toby Keith wears the same 7.875 inch big blue oval. Because if you're a Ford truck man, self-confidence is only as big as your truck with the big blue ovaled badge.

4) TIE: Chevrolet Tahoe and Lincoln Mark LT
Lincolb-chevy-1.jpgChevy's rolling tribute to the suburban lifestyle sports a hefty 9.75 inch bowtie mounted right on its nose. While it's a good way to tell you're not driving a GMC SUV, you'd need to somehow explain what the nine-and-three-quarters-inch sized badge means about what you've got in your pants. Same's true we guess of Lincoln's luxury truck.

3) TIE: Chevrolet Silverado and Lincoln Navigator
Lincoln-Chevy-tie2.jpgOur third place goes to two vehicles on the same platforms as the fourth place holders, each sporting a humongous 10.25 inch ornament to a lack-of-johnson size are the Chevrolet Silverado pickup and the Lincoln Navigator SUV. Sounds about right to us.

2) Chevrolet Express
Chevy-express.jpgThis one was a shocker for us, we were really pulling for the even-bigger Silverado HD models, but they sport the same plate as the regular trucks. On a whim, we ran the ruler across the nose of the Express and lo and behold, a stupendous 10.5 inches of bowtie bone-compensation. Who said van owners can't hang high with the smallest of em?

1) Audi Products
Audi.jpgWe'd always known Germans were into some seriously freaky stuff. Something about issues of sexual repression. But we never knew the levels to which they were over-compensating. Every single member of the Audi family — with the exception of the TT — sport the same impossibly large 10.75 inch Audi badge. Maybe now it is the time on Sprockets when they dance and show off flat-as-the-world-is-round pants bulges.

So what did we learn from all this? In reality, badge size probably does not correspond to bulge size. Especially considering I own a nearly ten-year-old Audi with the same sized badge as its new breathren, and I was confident enough to put together this list. So go figure. (Hat tip to Mackenzie!

<![CDATA[ KBB Names Ten Best New Road Trip Vehicles, Family Truckster Suspiciously Absent ]]> There's no set definition of what is and what isn't a road trip. Do you have to cross state lines? Is there a minimum mileage? Should it be measured in years? We don't have answers to these questions and neither do the people at Kelly Blue Book who put together an interesting mix of vehicles to meet the task, ranging from the obvious choices like the Dodge Grand Caravan and Toyota Prius to surprises like the Audi S5 and Bugatti Veyron. And then there's the VW Eos, which we'd rather not be packed into for a long journey. The full list and press release below.

KBB.COM NAMES 2008 BEST NEW ROAD TRIP VEHICLES

IRVINE, Calif., May 20, 2008 - The expert editors of Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com (www.kbb.com), the leading provider of new- and used-vehicle information, today announce their picks for Kelley Blue Book's 2008 Top 10 Best New Road Trip Vehicles. Memorial Day weekend ushers in the beginning of the summer driving season, and record gas prices will play a large role in trip-planning this year. But even with gas prices reaching $4 per gallon, Americans are still expected to hit the road in droves for summer road trips. From the two-person weekend getaway to the full-family excursion, this year's Best New Road Trip Vehicles list is certain to accommodate any road trip.

In choosing this year's Best New Road Trip Vehicles, the kbb.com editors evaluated all tangible and intangible attributes that would enhance any long drive, such as driving enjoyment, passenger comfort, cargo space and of course, fuel economy. Because not all road trips are the same, Kelley Blue Book's 2008 Best New Road Trip Vehicles provide a potential perfect ride or two for every type of driver and every type of journey. Each vehicle offers different perks such as entertainment options, interior accommodations and driving performance to keep road-trippers satisfied. Depending on the type of trip and the number of companions the right vehicle could be a coupe, sedan, crossover, SUV or minivan.

Kbb.com Editorial Comments: 2008 Best New Road Trip Vehicles

Audi S5

Combining a silky 354-horsepower V8 engine, impeccably tuned suspension and quattro all-wheel drive, the Audi S5 delivers high levels of both performance and comfort, along with the elegance to arrive in grand fashion.

Bugatti Veyron

If the price of fuel has impacted your yacht time more than your driving habits, you might find the $1.5-million, 1,001-horsepower, 16-cylinder, quad-turbo, 250-mph Bugatti Veyron an ideal alternative the next time the jet is in the shop. Just keep in mind that at full speed, the Veyron burns through its 26-gallon fuel tank in about 12 minutes.

Chevrolet Malibu

We recently drove six top-selling mid-size sedans in a back-to-back comparison test, and the remarkably quiet and comfortable Chevy Malibu handily outshined the competition on the highway. The first car in the category to combine a flexible six-speed automatic transmission with a gas-sipping four-cylinder engine, the Malibu is capable of an impressive 32 highway miles per gallon.

Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid

While the Tahoe Hybrid's highway fuel economy rating of 22 mpg is only 2 mpg better than that of its gas-only counterpart (the hybrid's bigger advantage is in city driving), it's nevertheless the most fuel-friendly full-size SUV on the road and provides seating for eight, plenty of cargo solutions and the ability to tow your boat to the lake.

Dodge Grand Caravan

They say that getting there is half the fun. In the Dodge Grand Caravan, getting there can easily be all the fun. The Grand Caravan's wide variety of entertainment options includes multiple DVD players, video game inputs, two overhead video screens, SIRIUS Satellite TV and radio as well as rearward-swiveling second row seats, all helping to transform the once humble minivan into a virtual party on wheels.

Ford Flex

Due in dealerships this summer, Ford's new full-size, three-row crossover will be turning heads from coast to coast all year, while treating occupants to cold drinks with its class-exclusive refrigerated console.

Infiniti EX35

In addition to a plush, flexible interior, the EX35 offers a Lane Departure Prevention System that can help keep any driver — quite literally — in line. A small camera detects lane markers in front of the vehicle and, when inadvertent lane departure is detected, the system applies a small amount of left or right brake force to nudge the vehicle back on course.

MINI Cooper Clubman

With excellent fuel economy and a fun-loving attitude, the MINI Cooper has earned its way onto our list of top road trip cars for the second year in a row. The new Clubman offers more passenger and luggage space than the standard Cooper, making the largest member of the MINI family an even more ideal long-haul companion.

Toyota Prius

The iconic Prius doesn't just deliver the best highway mileage of virtually anything on four wheels, it also features a flexible hatchback design and enough interior volume to qualify as a mid-size vehicle.

Volkswagen Eos

The Volkswagen Eos is a sporty coupe that's also a sexy convertible, thanks to a sleek, sophisticated retractable hardtop. This chameleon also has an exceptionally wide glass sunroof for when you want the open-air experience without getting that wind-swept look.

<![CDATA[ Infiniti G35X Pricing Magically Fixed But Spoiler Disappears Too ]]> Remember yesterday when we told you how the pricing on the Infiniti G35X was a bit funny? How the "Sport Package" appeared to be included in the price of the vehicle yet calls to Infiniti dealers said otherwise? Well today the option doesn't even seem to be listed on the website — not only that but they took away the optional spoiler too. Funny how that kind of thing happens isn't it? We hope all of you in the market for the all-wheel-drive sports sedan fired up the printer and walked into the dealership with a copy of the website, you know, just as a bargaining tool. <![CDATA[ Infiniti G35X Practicing Bait And Switch Pricing? ]]> Looks like Nissan's Infiniti brand has some splainin' to do with regard to their online pricing. Tipster Steve D pointed us to a bit of pricing which we agree seems a bit odd. Seems the online car builder on the Infiniti website says the price of the "Sport Package" is included in the price of the G35X at no charge. After a quick ring to the local area Infiniti dealer, this was confirmed as a situation which is less than true. Actually the salesman on the other end of the line had to stifle a guffaw when asked if the sport package was indeed included. Seems "included" actually means "$1,100" when speaking about Infinitis. We're not terribly surprised to hear this considering what's included in the package:

• Viscous Limited-Slip rear Differential (VLSD)
• Solid-magnesium paddle shifters mounted on steering column
• Split 7-spoke 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with W-rated summer performance tires
• Larger brakes
• Unique front fascia and side sills
• Front sport seats with thigh extension and driver's power torso and thigh support
• Unique sport steering wheel stitching
• Aluminum pedals

That's a pretty healthy pile of parts for free, or actually not really free. Wonder if they'll be fixing the little boo boo now?

<![CDATA[ 2009 Infiniti FX50 Lands In Geneva, Impresses Booth Professionals With 5.0 Liter V8 ]]> Remember when only muscle cars had 390 horsepower? Of course you don't. Therefore, it shan't give thee pause the new 2009 Infiniti FX50 has the same. That by way of Nissan's 5.0 liter V8 — that outpowers BMW's X5 4.8i — over a seven-speed transmission. Other than a significant facelift, the longtime oddball SUV gets a four-wheel double-wishbone suspension with active Continuous Damping Control (CDC); four-wheel active steering and intelligent brake assist. The most notable interior feature, other than the 11-speaker Bose audio system and active safety gewgaws like intelligent cruise control and Distance Control Assist (DCA), is the new 360-degree Around View Monitor system, shared with its smaller EX counterpart. The FX50 will hit the US mid-year before a European ship date in the fall, followed by stoplight-to-stoplight guffaws involving errant X5s in Basel.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Infiniti FX50 Revealed At Poorly-Lit Function ]]> We were told the 2009 Infiniti FX was revealed last night at a swank cocktail function in Geneva. We were told we'd get to see the range-topping 2009 Infiniti FX50 drop deus ex machina-like from the heavens, ready to solve all our problematic desires for a new luxe Car-UV with a phallic-shaped front end. We were told we could gaze upon the curvaceous site-lines and peek at the 380-plus HP 5.0-liter 32-valve DOHC V8 in the FX50 (or dream about the upcoming 2009 Infiniti EX37 and G37 and their lower-powered V6 with details to be released at a later date under the hood) champagne in one hand and DSLR in the other. We were promised all sorts of candies and horns of ram overflowing with all the goodies and morsels we could ever desire. And we were ashamed that we missed such a splendid-sounding event. Oh, the sorrow. But then we heard the event last night had the crappiest lighting ever and everyone's photos came out looking grainy and over-exposed. Luckily we also received "tips" from marketers from a far away land about a website where all the information we would ever need on the new Infiniti crossover was readily accessed and clear of any shade or gloom of night. And thus, we provide you with the non-grainy pictures above and in the gallery below plus a full press release found below the jump. Fear not lover of live shots, we'll have some of those for you shortly.

<![CDATA[ Is Nissan Considering A GT-R Sedan For Infiniti? ]]> The lads over at Motor Trend have it that Nissan is "studying the possibility" of a four-door GT-R for the Infiniti brand. This reminds us of the time Laura Berkalter was "studying the possibility" of going out with us. While it didn't work it out with Laura, this is a rumor that might have legs. The sedan could carry over a lot of the components from the current GT-R, such as the twin-turbo V6, AWD setup and transmission. As the price could easily be in excess of $80,0000, making it an Infiniti is the only easy way to avoid the Phaeton syndrome.

What do you think? Is a GT-R sedan feasible? Will people buy it? [Motor Trend]

<![CDATA[ 2009 Infiniti FX Spotted Testing In The Wild ]]> InfinitiFX55Spied.jpgSomeone over at AutoWeek.nl just happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch photos of a mostly uncamo'd version of what good sense says is the 2009 FX. The next generation FX will likely be offered as the FX37, with with a 300+ horsepower version of the VQ. It's rumored that the FX50/FX55 will get a new V8 good for nearly 400 horsepower (and displacement of either 5.5 or 5.0 liters). According to information gathered last March, there are many new toys due for the next generation FX, including adaptive slow cruise control.

Though the next generation keeps the same profile and curvy greenhouse, the real story is the sharp-looking (literally) headlights and much less pronounced grille. While we imagine they'll fill the gap with as much chrome as possible, it's hard to tell with all the tape. Is Infiniti just playing with us? [AutoWeek.nl]

<![CDATA[ Detroit Auto Show: XM Infotainment Infiniti QX56 System Does It All ]]>
The Detroit Auto Show may be chock full of cars and gears and engines, but there is still some love for the techno-fiends out there. XM's completely customized Infiniti QX56 "Infotainment Vehicle" includes a wide array of features including the standard touchscreen interface, a programming guide, XM Satellite Radio (obviously), XM NavTraffic, NavInfo, NavWeather, voice commands Parking Link and more.

The back of the QX56 contains the brains of this demo vehicle. Understand that the Infotainment Vehicle is completely customized and built for demonstration of all of XM's next generation goods and won't be hitting an Infiniti dealership in this current state. Despite the mess of electronics and other goods, there is actually four different, independent computers powering everything inside the QX56. This ultimately could allow every screen inside of the vehicle to operate independently.

Easily, the most impressive feature is the XM NavWeather, NavInfo and NavTraffic. The NavWeather provides live weather updates on the fly. It divides up the map into a grid. Each square on the grid is approximately 4.3 square miles and provides its own independent weather information. Pair this up with Infiniti's navigation to provide accurate and completely customized driving forecasts.

NavTraffic provides up to the minute traffic information with the navigation. As with other traffic analyzers, roads are color-coded based based on pace of traffic; specific incidents are highlighted and can be opened to provide details. The Hyundai Genesis is one of the vehicles being shown off at the Detroit Auto Show and the first Hyundai that will be including NavTraffic. Many vehicles from Acura, Cadillac, Ferrari, Lexus, Infiniti, Nissan and Toyota also include XM NavTraffic.

NavInfo is a robust suite of information about everything from flight times and statuses, gas prices and more. It is also integrated into the navigation seamlessly.

XM's Parking Link is still a ways away from reality, but the idea is good. On the map, parking garages are highlighted and information is given based on available spaces. It can also display prices. XM also said that a street-level version of Parking Link is far off, but nonetheless under discussion.

Sports scores, stock prices and standard XM radio with a programming guide are also parts of the Infotainment Vehicle and the future technology available from XM.

Infiniti Announces Pricing on 2008 EX Luxury Crossover

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 15, 2007) - Infiniti announced pricing on the all-new 2008 EX35 personal luxury crossover SUV today at the 2007 Los Angeles International Auto Show. The Infiniti EX35, which goes on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide on December 21, 2007, offers an exceptional combination of seductive design, elegant interior and advanced technology systems - including the debut of the available Around View Monitor (AVM) system, which utilizes four small cameras to give the driver a "top-down view" of the outside of the vehicle while parking.

The new EX also becomes the second Infiniti production vehicle, following the fall introduction of the 2008 Infiniti M, to offer the new Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system, and the first to feature "Scratch Shield," a special "self-healing" clear coat designed to maintain its gloss level over time and keep the EX looking new.

The 2008 EX is available in four models - EX35 RWD (rear-wheel drive), EX35 RWD Journey, EX35 AWD (all-wheel drive) and EX35 AWD Journey. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) pricing of each model is:

Also available is an advanced voice-activated, touch-screen Infiniti Navigation System featuring available XM® NavTraffic™ with real-time traffic information (requires active XM® subscription after free 3 month free trial subscription), which includes a 9.3GB Music Box hard drive for digital music storage and playback.

"The EX blends all the best attributes of each segment to create a perfect vehicle that appeals to men and women of all ages and family sizes."

Infiniti offers a full-line of luxury performance automobiles, including the G sports coupe and sedan, the M luxury performance sedan, FX premium crossover SUV, QX full-size luxury SUV, and the EX personal luxury crossover, which goes on sale in December. <![CDATA[ PCH, Rear-Drive Japanese Luxury Edition: Q45 or 929? ]]> Approximately two-thirds of you would rather reign in Hell with a '69 Citroën than with a '66 Renault R8 Gordini, according to yesterday's Choose Your Eternity poll (we can assume that those who would serve in Heaven with a brand-new Lexus didn't vote). That's great, but what if you want to feel like a Yakuza soldier collecting protection money from pachinko-parlor owners and noodle-stand proprietors while you drive your Hell Project? What then? Well, you definitely need a Japanese luxury machine for that, but since you'll need to save your yen for quality tattoos, sharply-tailored suit, and wafer-thin watch, your budget for the car is going to be a bit tight. Welcome to Japanese Luxury Car Hell!

A rear-wheel-drive car with a 278-horse, 4.5 liter V8 under the hood, for only 350 bucks? Yes indeed, when you grab this 1990 Infiniti Q45. The seller is motivated, because we get 16 exclamation points in the statement "Really need to get rid of the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" But don't you try to get the seller to let this fine Japanese steed go for $345, because it says "No Low Ballers" right there in the listing. The only thing the seller says is wrong with the car is some leaky fuel injectors, but the layout of the photographs may indicate body damage to the right front. There may also be other surprises, given the price; the interior could have been used as a home for a family of rabid skunks, and the fuel injectors may be leaking because a rod came ripping up through the intake and broke them. But when you sort all that stuff out, you'll be rollin' like James Incandenza doing the Infiniti Jest!

But let's suppose you want to break away from the Japanese Big Three for your Yakuza enforcermobile, yet still need rear-drive Tokyo-style luxury. In that case, you might want to take a look at this 1994 Mazda 929, which costs an extra 200 bucks over the Infiniti, but gives you a newer machine. There's less mystery to this one, too, because the seller was a little more forthcoming about the car's problems. On the plus side, the early-90s 929 is a pretty nice car with plenty of power; I (briefly) owned a '92 and liked it a lot. This one even runs! The interior is described as "fair" (probable translation: Stains of Unknown, Yet Clearly Biological, Origin on the upholstery, at least one door panel in pieces in the trunk, dash cracked like the Gobi Desert), there's a squealing belt, the AC blows hot, sunroof doesn't work, etc. Just remember, if you're an overseas scammer this seller's not going to sell to you!

<![CDATA[ Nissan Around View Monitor Shows Bird's-Eye View, Coming To US In December ]]>
We've already talked about it, but never seen this expository on it. It's called the "Around View Monitor" and it's the latest bit of techie goodness we'll be seeing from the minds at Nissan. It uses cameras mounted at the front and rear and on both sides of the vehicle to take pictures of the surrounding road surface. Those shots are then "synthesized" by an image processing technique into one view that is shown on the dashboard. Basically, it creates a "Bird's-Eye View" of the vehicle to better allow the driver to park, turn, and do all sorts of other "tricky" maneuvers. Sounds great for larger vehicles. We guess that's why the first vehicle it's showing up in is the Nissan Elgrand van in Japan. What makes far less sense is that the first vehicle it'll be showing up in here in the United States is the new Infiniti EX35. Because that's what the EX35 needed — more toys. [via FarEastGizmos]

<![CDATA[ 2008 Nissan Skyline Coupe Revealed...In Japan ]]> Nope, kids — hold your horses, it's not the new GT-R, that's still being revealed in Tokyo later this month. Almost like a tease, Nissan's just revealed the new 2008 Skyline coupe in Japan — it's the Nissan version of the Infiniti G37 coupe we saw revealed at the New York Auto Show earlier this year. That means this new-for-2008 model gets the same engine as the G37 — the powerful 3.7-liter V6 engine that delivers 330 horses in the Infiniti. The new Skyline somehow adds an extra three horses, with Nissan pegging the 2008 model at 333 HP and 270 lb-ft of torque in all four of the variants of the new Nissan two-door hardtop. Also available will be the full complement of toys found in the G37 including backup camera, "HDD CARWINGS" nav system and even real wood trim. Full press release after the jump.

Nissan Announces All-New Skyline Coupe

TOKYO (Oct. 2, 2007) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today introduced the all-new Skyline coupe in Japan, a grand touring coupe designed to set new benchmarks for dynamic styling and outstanding driving performance. It is available now at Nissan dealers nationwide.

SHIFT_passion: A Skyline Coupe Created to Make the Heart Pound

The new Skyline coupe builds on the strengths and attributes of the current Skyline sedan - attraction, sophistication and high-performance - and takes them to an even higher level. It combines dramatic styling and a refined, driver-oriented interior with the advanced performance made possible by a newly developed, innovative VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) 3.7-liter V6 engine and a high-performance platform to create a vehicle that will appeal the discerning coupe buyer.

A Glamorous, Dynamic Exterior

The new Skyline coupe's seductive exterior design starts with its powerful, elegant front fender curvature, flowing silhouette and glamorous front and rear fenders. The expressive front fascia features characteristic Skyline fender lines and a low, rhythmic, wave-like hood. The sculpted, bright-finished grille and L-shaped Bi-Xenon headlights add to its commanding presence. Large wheel wells, Skyline-signature LED combination taillights and dual exhaust enhance the new Skyline coupe's high-performance appearance. A unique front bumper with matching side sill spoilers is available with Skyline 370GT Type SP and S models. Seven exterior colors are offered, including Nissan's two new colors: Vibrant Red and Luna Mare Silver.

A Highly Refined Interior, Innovative Technology

The new Skyline coupe's interior is designed with one overriding goal: to make driving a joy. The comfortable, embracing driver's position and supportive seats combine with a parallel hand-stitched, genuine leather-wrapped steering wheel and light, sturdy magnesium paddle shifters to set the stage for driving exhilaration. The stylish curves of the front seat and door trim help create a sporty elegance. Two interior color schemes are available - Fauve, with real wood trim (manufacturer option), or Cool Black, featuring real aluminum trim.

The Skyline coupe interior also offers an array of advanced technology systems, including an Intelligent Key system that electronically locks the steering, immobilizes the engine and handles other jobs according to the key ID for enhanced theft prevention. Also available is a Blind-Side Monitor system that assists the driver when pulling to a curb or parallel parking, by displaying a view of the blind areas around the front left of the vehicle. The Blind-Side Monitor is offered together (as a manufacturer option) with a RearView Monitor system, which displays images behind the vehicle through the use of a compact CCD camera.

The HDD CARWINGS navigation system (manufacturer option) now includes a touch panel for greater convenience. Besides the navigation function, it is packed with entertainment features, including the Music Box recorder/player and playback of DVDs, audio and video media, as well as Bluetooth Hands-Free features.

The Skyline coupe also offers a premium Bose audio system, which turns the cabin into a very special listening environment. The advanced Bose system, available as a manufacturer option, features top playback quality in an onboard system and includes a pair of three-way integrated speakers in the doors and four woofers in the doors and rear shelf.

Exhilarating, Exciting Performance From a New Engine and Advanced Platform

The new Skyline coupe continues to offer exceptional levels of driving performance, ride comfort, roominess and utility through use of the advanced FM (Front Mid-ship) package and FR-L platform. First utilized in the V35 Skyline, the newly enhanced FR-L platform combines a sturdy, low-vibration body structure that makes the driver feel one with the car with high performance and stability - while also satisfying safety and environmental requirements.

At the heart of the Skyline coupe's dynamic performance is the newly developed VQ37VHR engine, which responds briskly, accelerates smoothly, is fuel efficient and attains high emissions standards. The VQ37VHR represents a new generation of high-performance engines and, at 333 horsepower, is the most powerful V6 in its class. Generating 90% of maximum torque between 2,400 and 7,000 rpm, the engine power is light, smooth and easy to handle right up to the 7,500 rpm redline.

The VQ37VHR's new, advanced Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) system continuously changes the angle and lift of the intake valves, depending on the degree of acceleration and speed of the engine. The fully symmetrical air intakes on right and left increase the volume of intake air and reduce pumping loss, significantly increasing responsiveness. The result is the simultaneous achievement of seemingly conflicting needs: quick acceleration response, high power, low fuel-consumption and cleaner exhaust.

The new powerplant is mated to a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. The close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission allows for quick shifting and sporty touring using a short-stroke design and triple-cone synchros for the first three gears. For ease of operation, the Skyline coupe's available full-range electronic 5-speed automatic transmission includes a standard automatic shifter plus a driver-side manual shifter. The normal "D" mode provides smooth driving, while shifting to the "DS" mode provides a sportier feel. The transmission's ASC (adaptive shift control) adds comfort by automatically selecting the best gear for cornering, downhill driving and other critical situations to suit both the driver's style and environment.

Nissan engineers maximized sturdiness and lightness in the Skyline coupe's double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension designs to enhance stability and responsiveness, as well as driver control. The dual-flow pass shock absorbers were developed through extensive review of damping force and rebound spring criteria, helping create the Skyline coupe's smooth, refreshing ride feel while maintaining high levels of maneuvering stability.

To match braking capability to the increased engine performance, the Skyline coupe employs four-wheel aluminum-caliper opposed-piston brakes (standard on both the SP and S versions of the 370GT) - which are designed to optimize the stroke at low speed and provide secure stopping power at higher speeds. The standard 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) also includes Electronic Braking Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), while Intelligent Brake Assist is available as a manufacturer option. The Skyline coupe also features standard Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and a speed-sensitive hydraulic power steering system.

Another advanced performance feature available with the new Skyline coupe is Nissan's four-wheel active steering (4WAS) system, which adjusts the steering-linked angles of front and rear wheels according to speed, making the vehicle more responsive to the driver at low and medium speeds, and stable and smooth at higher speeds. 4WAS is standard on both the SP and S versions of the 370GT.

Leading-Edge Safety and Environmental Technologies

The Skyline coupe also offers a long list of convenience, safety and environmental features, including Bi-Xenon headlights with Active AFS (Adaptive Front lighting System), door mirror with heater, flat-blade wipers, fuel efficiency gauge and reduced levels of volatile organic compound used in the cabin, which helps create better interior air quality.

Standard safety equipment includes rigid, safe Zone Body construction, driver and front passenger SRS Air Bag System, driver and front passenger SRS Side Air Bag System, SRS Curtain Air Bag System, Active Front Head Restraints and three-point ELR rear seat belts. Emergency Brake Operated Pre-crash Front Seat Belts are optionally available.

The Skyline coupe body has been designed to offer greater pedestrian protection, including the application of Nissan's new "pop-up engine hood" technology. When sensors embedded in the front bumper detect an impact with a pedestrian, the system's control unit determines if the hood needs to be instantly raised. If deemed necessary, the control unit activates a pyrotechnic actuator that raises the rear edge of the hood, creating a larger, protective buffer space between the hood and hard engine components underneath. This helps cushion the impact to the pedestrian's head if it collides with the hood.

From an environmental standpoint, all Skyline coupe models are certified as SU-LEVs, meeting 2005 standards to cut emissions by 75%. In addition, over 95% of the vehicle is recyclable (based on definitions of recyclables for new cars and calculation guidelines by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, 1998).

Models and Sales Target

The new Skyline coupe is available in four models, each equipped with the new 3.7-liter VVEL V6: 370GT, 370GT Type P, 370GT Type S and 370GT Type SP. Target sales are 200 units per month.

<![CDATA[ Big Bux to be Made on Google Street View With Infiniti EX35 ]]> This morning on the 18th fairway at Pebble Beach, Infiniti debuted the production version of their their third SUV model, the EX35, following in the footsteps of the FX-series and the Bismarck QX. While one might think the RWD-or-AWD EX is a derivative of the Murano, it's actually built on a trucked-up version of Nissan's FM platform. Probably the trickest piece of equipment, besides the headreast-mounted coathanger — is the Around View Monitor System, known in abbreviated parlance as AVM. It offers a 360-degree view of the vehicle to ease parking in tight situations. An added bonus would seem to be the opportunity to hire oneself out to Google in his or her new EX, thus making the payments while mapping the world. The EX hits showrooms in December, press release after the jump.

2008 Infiniti EX35 Features Coupe-Inspired SUV Design

Engaging Environment and Advanced Technologies

The all-new 2008 Infiniti EX35, which goes on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in late December 2007, offers an exceptional combination of seductive design, elegant interior and advanced technology systems - including the world production car debut of the advanced Around View Monitor (AVM) system, which utilizes four small cameras to give the driver a "top-down view" of the outside of the vehicle while parking. The new EX35 also becomes the second Infiniti production vehicle, following the fall introduction of the 2008 Infiniti M, to offer the new Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system, and the first to feature "Scratch Shield," a special "self-healing" clearcoat paint.

"This new Infiniti EX35 is a breathtaking design and a breath of fresh air in the segment, with its sculpted elegance, engaging interior and exciting performance," said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division, Nissan North America, Inc. "And if that's not enough to s
