A $50,000+ car should not look like a a Hyundai Elantra in profile. It's such a shame that the original Q45 was thought of as a flop - it was smooth, gorgeous, and expensive-looking.
@pejer: IMO, this model line is the best example of the subsequent iterations not living up to the original. That's a seriously underrated design. It's the Japanese rendition of a modern gangster car.
BTW, prices on these suckers have fallen to about $8K. I'll be buying one soon.
RWD V8 sedan. This is good no matter how you look at it. This segment is at a crossroads and kudos to Nissan/Infiniti for bringing it to market... the economy/mpg regs/emissions be damned.
That being said, the eco pedal is shiite. At this point I await the first drive.
I vote for roof-mounted V-8's... I mean think about it; we've got TONS of headroom on most overpasses, it would REALLY free-up more trunk space.... which said Nissan target-demo divorcee's could probably use while ferrying kids & their corresponding overnight luggage/soccer kit bags back & forth from said co-custodial assignments. Yep, that's it... let's get to strengthening those c-pillars.
@McLawdog: That's funny; I'm with you with Audi being tops in the looks department, but I've liked a lot of Nissan/Infiniti's recent stuff has done...enough to put them in at least the top five.
Sure, they make mistakes (Versa, Sentra, Murano) but they've had some gems too, IMO: the Z, the G35/37, FX, Maxima, etc. This M improves on the old, stale M with lots of cues from the Essence concept. Without a doubt I believe Infiniti has the best looking model line of the three japanese luxobrands. Nice dash evolution, too.
I came this close to buying a '94 Q45a, but I'm glad I didn't, as, besides the active suspension being a long-term nightmare...though it was mighty cool...they didn't seem to age well in the upholstery department.
I even looked a couple last winter, when I was shopping for a ride, but they were all torn up.
The a's are a nightmare when things start to go southbound, and it's a shame, but most Q's I see are pretty much trashed. I'm lucky that mine's pretty close to cherry, my mom took great care of it before handing it down.
I knew they'd eventually use that 5.6L for something other than the Titan. Really, it was the only good thing about the Titan. Quite a torquey motor. I'm glad to see in a car.

Two words: Condo & Crane.
The outdoor unit must have weighed about 250lbs, but because of OSHA, they had to rent a crane.

Blocky? Yes.
Appealing? To some of us (except for the stupid orange IC lights...grrrrr).

@so I goes to the local bar, y'know, people:
I've always preferred my "version 1.1" '94 Q45.

haven't they learned anything from their mistakes?

The J30 was a nice car, albeit small and equipped with a transmission made of cigarette ash.

Agreed on a 560Z
