"However, no one saw the crash because no one watches open wheel racing and it isn't covered on TV. But the drivers are glad that five guys on Jalopnik.com wished them a speedy recovery."
First, our sympathies to the two drivers who, I am sure, are glad it wasn't a lot worse... it could have been.
I am old enough (61 years) to remember when any accident on the track was a probable fatality or serious injury. It was rare for a driver to survive a bad crash and if he did, it was usually with carrer-ending injuries.
So our hats are off to the designers and engineers who have worked diligently to make racing safer. It will never be perfect but there was a time when this kind of crash might have brought out the black ribbons.
So now that the IRL has crushed CART and there's only one open wheel series in the US and still nobody cares... now that Gene Simmons has insulted the intelligence of IndyCar's remaining fans... now that F1 is pissed off because of the track/tire conditions at Indy and cancelled their USGT... NOW the Hulman family decides to try for new leadership?
I've heard rumors that the track itself is up for sale with a starting price of $1.5 billion.
@Ash78: damn you and your superior wit. Can I quit before I really even start a day on Jalopnik?! I guess it's a good thing I have meetings all day. Nicely played, Ash.
I forget who said it, but some bicycle racer once said, "You think these guys will stop doping because of some ethics code? These are men who have already decided that winning is worth their liver..."
I'm more concerned about performance enhancing surgery in the sport of tennis than this. Simona Halep states, "This fall I'll have a breast reduction operation. The breasts make me uncomfortable when I play. It's the weight that troubles me - my ability to react quickly."
This poor girl needs to be prevented from sullying the sport of tennis with performance enhancing medical procedures. She was the Junior French Open champ, so she has potential.
Kudos to breaking the rules yet staying within the rule book rules in motorsports, a looong tradition of that. But in tennis, there is the long tradition of young women in sweat drenched tops and short skirts making primal sounds. Just look to luminaries and champions of the sport like Steffi Graf, Mary Pierce, or the up and coming recent upset winner Agnes Szavay.
Is someone auditioning for a job w/MSNBC or Glibb's? Obviously taken out of context, Danica is a passionate racer who'd do damn near anything to win Indy, what REAL racer wouldn't? She also has one of the sweetest looking asses in professional motorsports.
@413wedge: Too true on being taken out of context... how many of us have said stupid shit like this that if taken out of context would make us sound like morons? Granted, she needs to be a little more circumspect in interviews, but if Paul Tracy said this, would there be as big a furor?

/Will Powers Dad, Pure, speaking after the accident.
//jokes aside, hope they recover fast and back behind the wheel soon.

Also, it's a bit of a bummer after the headline made me expect a car with so much power, a good jab at the throttle might crush vertebra.

Tony: But Mom, I'm the CEO!
Mrs. George: Tony, go to the announcement booth and play with your sock puppets! I'm not going to say it again.
Mr Belskus: Listen to your mother Tony.

Why buy a racetrack when you can get all of that?

TonyTiger: sound kewl. u wanna run IRL?
JeffB: shiat yeah!
Thus a simple IM misunderstanding led to the change in control.

@something_unique_and_descripti...: @SCROGGS!!: Even at our level of racing - if it's not specifically proscribed in the reg's, I'll try to find an advantage.
