I had to lay down for a while. This car and its history is seriously awesome.

"The idea of actually putting a brand new, still in packaging parts of a thirty year old car together for the first time is astonishing."

So, you're discussing "a parts." Is that singular or plural?

"The car has been tested by the Ministry of Transportation and is awaiting its VIN and chassis numbers along with legal registration, which has been assured will happen."

So, the car has been assured... no wait, it's the legal registration that has been assured...

    ...that what will happen?

Lordy, what painful reading. I attempted to diagram these two sentences and my desk caught fire.

As a guy who's currently working on his own PMH (Project Motorcycle Hell), I'm seething with jealousy. It's like assembling a giant LEGO set!

(Which, incidentally, is the exact same thing I told myself when I embarked on my hellish project.)

@bzr: When I married my lovely wife, I solemnly vowed to never again visit Project Motorcycle Hell.

Twelve years later, I still get the jones-shakes for it.

Lovely - unbelievable that no one assembled these parts at some previous time. 31 years!

Also I call moratorium on Harold's hearse. No more pictures of it, please.

It's almost a Johnny Cash song in real life!

And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry,

Cause I always wanted me one that was long and black."

As I noted on Autofiends, this remains the less attractive long-wheelbase car. There's a small number of late series 3, 12 cylinder, SWB roadsters out there that are more attractive, and hugely desirable. This remains a great achievement, and it's always a good thing to have more Es on the road than fewer.

More breathtaking than any of the US Jags, all the grace, without the large bumpers mandated in 1974. Like this one:

I wonder which 5% of the parts he needed to acquire to get it into running condition. Maybe, somehow, some of Mr. Lucas' electricals when mysteriously 'missing'.

Much more practical than the autoworker who supposedly built a car by stealing one part from the factory every day and assembling it at home. I always wondered how he got the chassis out of the plant.

@71rivnut: I've seen some pretty good sized parts that guys have taken off the line in the last few years. MacPherson struts, mirrors, trim pieces, and apparently some GPS units disappeared too. Not enough to build a car, but a step in the right direction if you want to stockpile some spare parts for when your car's warranty ends.
