After our news earlier on the XL-sized Genesis, here's the second piece of news-like rumor-busting for the day: We've been told by Dr. Hyun-Soon Lee, President of R&D at Hyundai, that despite the rumors — and whether it be called a crossover, wagon or whatever-UV — don't expect to see another form factor from Hyundai on the Genesis platform anytime soon. While we mourn the loss of any opportunity for a rear-wheel drive wagon form factor, our dislike of crossovers in general is well documented. So we're both happy and sad. While we go and cry and laugh in a corner, take a moment to reflect yourself. That is all.

As many of you guessed, I'm out here on the Southern tip of the Korean peninsula at the behest of the Mechanics who are quite Popular, getting the scoop on the new Hyundai [REDACTED]. While the driving impressions on the new [REDACTED] from the folks at Hyundai (Yes, Hyundai) are embargoed for a bit, there was other news out here from the little automaker that could in the Republic of Korea that is in no way embargoed. A couple of us auto journalistas had the chance to spend some in-car drive time with Dr. Hyun-Soon Lee, President of R&D at the Kimchi Commander of an automaker. First news is that the Genesis and the Genesis Coupe won't be the only BH-platform vehicles produced on the Ulsan assembly lines. In addition to the two RWD-vehicles we've already seen, the boys n' girls at Hyundai are developing an extended-length version of the Genesis sedan — with the product platform designation of "VI" (which does not stand for "Very Immense") for the Korean domestic and Chinese markets.

SoCal Euro's eagle-eyed forum fan-boy by the name of "dub*man" caught some shots of the new 2009 Hyundai Genesis at rest in a local SoCal parking lot. We're assuming it wasn't just stopping for a quick bite at a local Korean BBQ joint. Whatever it was doing there without manny plates affixed to the back end, we're happy he caught some clearer shots of the new four-door with the ever-changin' grille from the boys n' girls at Hyundai. Yes, Hyundai.

"Solara" Is The New Genesis?
It always sucks for us when auto-lovers wants something so badly and so blindly they end up seeing things that just aren't there. It's even harder for us when we have to break the hearts of our beloved forum fan-boys — like in the case of the so-called third generation Solara spy photos from Friday. Sorry Solara-lovers, that ain't what you think it is. If there is a "new Solara" coming out, these shots aren't it. More »First Hyundai Genesis Customers Bewildered By Low Price Tag
It looks like this pair of 2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedans got a bit tipsy on the way to their upcoming luxury-party crash. What you see here is a pair of early production or pre-production Genesi that were probably on their way to something important in Korea. Somehow along the way the truck carrying the black and silver pair lost its way, sending the cars tumbling on top of each other. Oops.More »

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: The Epic Reveal, Live!
Wow. Ok, so we were pretty excited about the new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, but we had no idea just how awesome the reveal would be. None of that crap about pulling a sheet off a semi-functional prototype. No, these Hoondais were blatantly fully functional. That's thanks to either a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 making 223 HP, or a 3.8-liter V6 that pumps out 310 HP. Hyundai is promising that this will be the cheapest 300+ HP coupe in the world. Full press release after the jump.More »

So what's the one complaint most often levied against the Ford Mustang? How about the lack of Independent Rear Suspension? Guess what? The 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has it. Here's the rest of the details — 212 HP 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a range-topping all-aluminum 306 HP DOHC 3.8-liter V6 engine. It'll be available starting in the spring of 2009. We'll have many more details shortly and our full gallery of the event in a moment — but yes, it's just been revealed.

Hyundai To Launch Luxury Brand, Compete with Acura and Infiniti
Our second favorite carmaker of the moment, Hyundai, has confirmed plans to launch a luxury brand similar to Honda's Acura or Nissan's Infiniti. The Korean carmaker is garnering significant interest due to its forthcoming launch of the V8-engined, RWD Genesis Sedan and Coupe. The new luxury brand will initially appear in China in 2010, but depending on its success, could be launched elsewhere.More »

Well, after the Tiburon-lovers at NewTiburon dropped a hot load of shots of the new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe over the weekend, some sites (we won't mention any names, MT, don't worry!) were apparently confused over which shots made it out on to the web and just decided to drop 'em all. So, we're just going to follow suit. Here's all the press shots you could ever want — well, until we get you the live photos on Wednesday at the New York Auto Show.

We saw the 2009 Hyundai Genesis Coupe in concept form out at the LA Auto Show this past year, and we'll be seeing the new hotness from Hyundai for real in the warm lights of the Javits Center at the New York Auto Show next month. But for the moment, we'll have to make do with the folks at KGP snapping some shots of the new hotness before the official unveil doing some winter weather testing in Sweden. The KGP boys have snapped themselves some shots of not only the exterior of the new little Genesis coupe, but also a small gallery of interior and engine shots — including one very hapless-looking engineer with a face that positively screams "You're not getting my kimchee, mister!" But, the shots do reveal some bad news for fans of manumatics — no paddle shifters on this bad little muscle rocket. Maybe you can hope for a V8? Full spy report from our sneaky shooters of all things camo after the jump.

Hyundai execs refer to their new Genesis luxo-sedan as an "industry disruption." It's the same kind of disruption, they say, Lexus achieved back when Japanese luxury cars in America were as much a nonentity as, well, Korean luxury cars in America. Nonetheless, most of you already know the details: Rear-drive, 375bhp, 333 lb-ft Tau "V8," zero-to-60 in under six seconds, five-link front and rear suspension, smart cruise control and more airbags than a press luncheon (bam!). Hyundai's apparently reverse-engineered competitors like the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class, Lexus GS and Infiniti M. [UPDATE: Lest we forget, the Genesis is also planned in 3.3- and 3.8-liter V6 versions.]

At a super-secret special test drive preview for the Korean media, Hyundai Motor Co. unveiled the sports sedan Genesis a full month prior to what was supposed to be the "official" unveil at the Detroit Auto Show and a full month after they showed off the coupe concept version at the LA Auto Show. The car features a rear wheel drive architecture and the new Tau V8 engine which will deliver 375 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai's V6 Lambda engines will also be offered in 3.3- and 3.8-liter editions.

Hyundai just unveiled the above shiny winged silver name-badge for the new rear-wheel drive power sedan from the Korean automaker. Yes, we know it's not very attractive. But the good news is the badge is only for the Korean and Chinese markets where, according to Hyundai, the wings will "symbolize the spirit of flight and soaring above it all..." Oh yes, they certainly do. Totally. But that's not the only Genesis news from the kim-chee commanders. They've also revealed some engine details...that...we...already...kinda...figured...

We too couldn't believe how easy it was for us to find what appear to be a bunch of uncloaked shots on the web of the new RWD-sedan sibling to the Genesis Coupe concept we just saw in LA. These photos, unlike the last set of Genesis sedan shots, are totally in the buff — and we're still almost a month and a half out from the Detroit Auto Show debut for the new hotness from Hyundai. The four-door power sedan'll come in all sorts of flavors other than kim-chee, including a V8 good for over 350 horsepower and some forms of V6 engines. We'll be there live next month to see if these shots are indeed how Hyundai gets its four-door groove on.
