I'm still not ready to take a Hyundai seriously. The day will certainly come, and probably soon, but....not yet.

This looks like a stripper Lexus to me. Strike that, it looks BETTER than a Lexus. But RWD and a cheap turbo is simply fun in the sun! Well done Hyundai!

    No thanks.

I like the sedan, and it is priced fairly reasonably, but not this.

But for starting "stripped" at $24K, there are better options. I'd be in a Mazdaspeed 3 or Cobalt SS, etc way before this thing. They are more powerful and proven performers.

I still think this thing is ugly like a Tiburon. I see no resemblence whatso-ever to the Genesis sedan.

I'm declaring this coupe to be the farthest ever from it's sedan "heritage." These things share nothing.

@rlj676-Carbon Footprint Size - Clownshoe: It's actually $22k for a base model, the price quoted here is for the more expensive track pack. I'm tempted by one of these for the RWD though, as the only other car in that price range that has it is the V6 Mustang, which seems more of a cruiser.

This is a tuner's dream and it should do very well. It could possibly pick up the Nissan 240 fan base. I am not that fond of the design, actually one element, the side windows. Other than that, it is a winner.

You lost me at 19" wheels...

If this thing has brakes big enough to necessitate 19" wheels, it better be able to do stoppies. Otherwise its a LOT heavier and slower than it needs to be.

@Feds: Tire companies are no longer producing their cutting edge tires in smaller sizes... 18" and 19" have become the standard race tire sizes.

@Gearhead_42: I've said it before, but of all the cars I've driven, very few have any benefit beyond a 17" wheel size, with good tires. At least for 95% of the population who don't like spending over $1k on a set of tires and $4k+ on a set of lightweight 18" wheels.

@korvetkeith: It was my understanding that power-to-weight ratio matters a great deal more than raw horsepower. I'm sure the likes of a Lotus can give a 'Vette Z06 a run for its money on a track on less than half the power. Of course, this thing isn't in the same tier as any Lotus, but raw power isn't everything.

Almost got rid of everything I don't want on a car anyway. I think you should be able to buy any "performance" car in that trim if wanted. Now everybody is going to be sticking "type-R" stickers on Hyundais (if they didn't already).

I have never been sold on turbos for one reason; it would seem that with more parts, there stands a chance of more parts to break. Still, this seems to be quite a car for the money.

@Timtoolman, now with power tools!: I've always been in the same camp, especially on my auto forums where 75% of owners have a turbo and the rest have an NA V6. They have 10x more maintenance issues, but make up for it with tunability, fuel economy, lower weight, etc. I'm pretty sold on modern turbos, but I'm still intimidated/confused by all the plumbing and electronics.

@Neil Allan: Don't take it personally, it's just a running joke since Jalopnik opened up commenting to facebook. Not long ago every comment (and commenter) had to go through screening, which meant that very little trolling made it through. With facebook, it's jumped tenfold.

@nag2112: I'm there with you. The lines are awkward. Look at the beltline. It slants up in a straight line, then under the back passenger windows there is this bizarre corner and then a curve. Its like someone started the beltline and then the next shift finished it. Just weird.

@engineerd is missing Murilee: Those low angle press shots are the worst possible angle for that car. Any other shot (especially those "live" ones a few days ago) and the body looks far more attractive...
