I'd be very much surprised if this isn't a good transmission. With the strides that Hyundai has made, I would guess that they have worked long and hard on this. What does surprise me, though, is that it will be making its debut on the Azera and not the flagship Genesis. I wonder if they have engineered it to have any extra performance perks, so to speak, when paired up against their king-of-the-hill Tau V8, as opposed to its lesser V6 counterparts.
@pauljones: I said last year that I expected Hyundai to hit like a blockbuster when they finally decided to get serious about becoming a global player in car making. It pleases me greatly to see engineering drive product, instead of marketing and accounting forces. Well done Hyundai!
@bigloaf: Very true. But I would be extremely surprised if Hyundai has not adapted the transmission to work with its Tau V8. You don't spend the time, effort, and resources at attempting to develop a transmission that is capable of beating ZF at its own game and then make that transmission compatible with their flagship V8. It would just be a inconceivably short-sighted thing to do. No, my money says that the have a variant to fit the Tau V8, and I wonder if they didn't go the extra mile in making that variant the best of them.

And is this special ATF like the magic rocket fluid Olds had?
