Hey, I actually clicked on the link, and this car can only get better, because they are going to build a transmission and engine plant in Russia! How's that for some quality?

On a slightly unrelated matter: Who here wouldn't be at least slightly amused at the prospect of a knockoff Veyron?

Miley Cyrus get's in trouble for a squinty eye photo, but a Chinese car company makes a squinty eye car and nobody says boo about it. Such a double standard.

    You're right. Double standard.

*sigh*... at least they combined two cars this time to make this one so their is at least a sort of originality if only in the details. But really China... still? I thought you learned from my lasts posts on the subject.

@Bullitt417: I suggest you write a more strongly worded post in the future. Actually, all that'll do is rile up Analyst, so never mind - we already have leavethegun-takethecannoli and .357 fulfilling that duty.

@Tiberiuswise: In 1988, I travelled from Korea with a shipload of Daewoo (Pontiac) Lemanses. They were unbelievably insubstantial and crappy--much closer to an overbuilt go-cart than a proper car.

Fast-forward nineteen years to Pebble Beach, where the Hyundai Genesis is attracting quite a bit of attention--and some disbelief--just down the road from the Aston-Martin display.

It doesn't take long, unfortunately, and these folks are really motivated.

@Woodgrain: Are you referring to carmakers in general, or Asians, or Koreans/Chinese? Because while there are a few Chinese auto manufacturers that are coming up with new and interesting designs, it seems that many of them are just focusing on mimicking the look of successful cars from other companies in hopes that the positive associations will follow. I think it'll still be a little while before they devote the time, money, and attention needed to increase the safety and quality of their vehicles and feel confident selling their cars on their own merits.

@Woodgrain: BTW, an "overbuilt go-cart" is probably not the best description to persuade the Jalopnik commentariat that a car is a piece of crap. It actually sounds pretty fun to me!

So they knocked off a Ford Five Hundred, then knocked off a Bentley, then knocked off a Rolls Royce, and the result is the Huatai C4?
