My advice to Honda: remember, you made it to the bigtime with small, fun efficient cars. Don't flake out now, when we need you the most.

I'll believe it when I see it. By the time this thing makes it to market, after pre-release bloat, it'll be 9/10ths the size of an Accord coupe, have some bogus-ass DVD player crapola, and weigh close to 3,500 lbs.
Oh, and let me thank the Jalopnik staff for the star. I'm not entirely sure I'm worthy, but then again, stuff coming out of my fingers isn't particularly insightful/clever/humorous, it's just there...y'know?
Tip to Honda...bring back the original, after updating, design theory of the CRX. 'Know what, bring back the early-90's Civic while you're at it.
If it can win LeMons, then give it a second chance.
At least the it-never-gonna-look -like-this-in-production interior shot doesn't have a odd, but way better than the center cluster thing, split dash...however the digital speedo's gotta go. Humans 'read' analog much better than digital. Yeah, less exact, but most OEM speedometers are a few percent off, anyway.
Thank you, Yellow Box!

The edit function claims to have run out of time even though I'm attempting to edit in less than 60 seconds after clicking 'send'. This is on Chrome, 2.0.174.0
I'm not complaining...having no edit makes me pay more attention to the fingers and what they're 'saying'.
Fingers are telling me 3am is too late to be typing...indicated by the glowing-from-excessive-use backspace key.

Honda has put "sport" ahead of economy in the past with hybrids (the Accord) so I can see them doing this right. However, nobody wanted the Accord and it's improved performance.....

Better MPG, better acceleration, not much of a hit, at all, in trunk capacity...what was the problem? Too good, I guess.

Right now, I'm racking up miles on my WRX, getting 23-24mpg on average (on premium fuel).
I'd be willing to give up some of the fun and power for a decent-handling car that could get some seriously good mileage (like >50).
The CRZ could be that car.
Of course, it's a purely financial decision, meaning spending $5-10k on a used Miata does a lot to make up the difference between 30mpg and 50mpg.

Given the freeways I'm on and the mileage I run, I know the statistics are going to catch up with me eventually.
But, I am open to very minimalist cars. A Se7en or one of those bike-powered 3 wheelers is tempting. The ability to carry (slightly) more than a backpack and having some metal around is significant.

Minimalist cars, you say? If you're in FL,GA, AL or SC, I'd be down for weekend-wrenching with you to get you into a FFR (www.factoryfive.com) or a Se7en kit; but stay away from the 3-wheelers. They're pretty much the worst of a car combined with the lack of security of a bike.
You can get the Atom for 65k or so... too far out of your price range?
You provide the airtools, I'll be happy to use 'em.

Interesting conversation. I’m with Wankelin’ as I make a 30 mile one way commute in my ’03 Evo at 21 MPG, but I’ve been trying the motorcycle option for the last couple of years. I’m riding a 2002 BMW R115RT-P (used cop bike) and it is pretty great when the weather is good. The problem I’m having this year is it has been a very wet summer and the bike has spent more days in the garage than out of it. I love driving the Evo. It can’t be beat for kicks and giggles, but its talents are a bit wasted on a commute drive. Something like the CR-Z would fit the bill. Efficiency mixed with tossability is what made the CR-X great, it will be interesting to see if Honda can make that happen again.

Mid-engined tdi goodness.

The good news is, in Sunny Los Angeles I could drive any of those kits 330 days of the year.
