I was at a DE recently and OnStar called a guy in his Cobalt SS for the same reason. The person asked if he was having an emergency and needed assistance. I can't believe onstar can just pipe into your car with your pressing any button. #hennessey
With their new V's being so fast, I can only imagine how much money they must pay for their phone bills for "vehicle events", checking up on time-warping Cadillacs. #hennessey
Great Idea just came to mind, a Jalop needs to get the info for Mr Lutz's CTS-V for the upcoming race, and if our boy Siler is trailing behind, give the old, "my car was stolen can you please disable it" call to Onstar #hennessey
To be fair, it makes sense. It's easy to make fun of, but this is what OnStar is for. One of the car magazines had OnStar go off after a slalom test in a Malibu a few years ago, too.
Look at it this way. To the computer reporting to headquarters:
1: The car briefly saw forward acceleration of nearly 1g.
2: The throttle was wide open and remained so as the car reached 130.
The stock car would be short of that level of acceleration, so the unmodified OnStar saw a slow rear end collision followed by a seriously rushed downhill escape. Besides a crash, it sounds as if they might be about to get robbed or something. On paper, this absolutely looks like something that needs looking into.
If the car is capable of things that look like that to a computer, that's amazing. #hennessey
"Hello? This is OnStar...we have detected a Cadillac accelerating at a very un-Cadillac rate and have determined that this vehicle has had an 'emergency event' and are shutting down all power. We are sending emergency vehicles right away.
"If this car has been stolen, you will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law...and then debriefed as to how you got this vehicle moving so quickly.
"By the way, that was awesome." #hennessey
@crxtra: "Hello? This is Onstar...we have detected a Cadillac accelerating at a very un-Cadillac rate and through a brief but thorough investigation have determined that this vehicle must have been recently fallen out of an airplane. We are contacting local ATC personnel in assisting the aircraft pilot and alerting those on the ground to watch out for falling Cadillacs."
@beercheck: According to Top Gear, the GT-R actually turns its speed limiter off when its GPS determines it is "on-track"? Could do the same thing with On-Star. I see the warranty problems, however... #hennessey
Onstar: "Mr. Lutz? We don't have you racing until Thursday and you are in the wrong location, should I phone Mr. Siler and let him know E.T and that due to needing more practice, you may be a tad late on race day?
