Any non-car nut would understand why you spent $40K on a mid-spec 3-series. Nobody but car geeks would understand why you spent $40K on the last example of a dead car brand. Thus, it would face certain market failure. Too bad, it's a great car.
Hope this is the last off the line, rather than a G5 in a special color.
@Dollarbill4: Sorry, but even though you could fit at least two golfers in the trunk, this car is too much fun to give to people who wear madras pants.
@Jeb_Hoge: Call it the consolation prize for us Canadians who don't get the GXP (or so a local dealer tells me) - we can import the Carlton with no problem.
This is so a working stiffs car. Myself as a working stiff would love this car. It looks respectable so as not to upset the gentle parking lot pecking order but will mop the floor with the boss mans 540iL. I respectfully disagree.
It's really as shame that for every great car Pontiac has produced, and equally terrible car has been put into development. I don't care that this car is Australian, it still embodies the driving excitement that Pontiac was supposed to represent. It really is a shame that economic pressure and bad business decisions had to pull the plug on a brand that could've had a line-up like this: Firebird, G8, GTO, Solstice, and maybe, just maybe if they needed another car, an STS based Bonneville.
@Bullitt417: I agree, except I don't know why the G8 wasn't named Bonneville or Grand Prix to begin with. Yeah, those names got watered down over the years, but they still had some class. I'm just tired of everyone moving to the random letter/number combo for car names.
I'd love to buy this car but to save my money, I'd go with a 04-06 GTO, just as much fun but not the cost. (plus if gm goes belly up atleast these have been on the road for a while and most don't have warrenty anyway)
@PowerTryp: I sold my LS2 GTO for a G8, I'd say the G8 is much more fun. Why? Because the steering and handling is light years better and you're getting most of the thrust.

There. That's better.

I think I'm in love with the drivetrain more than anything else.
That leaves me pricing LS3 crate motors, Tremec 6060s, and rust-free '65 Chevelles.

And so I face the final curtain.
My Pontiac, I'll say it clear,
The car, I won't disgrace, of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life thats full.
I've traveled each and evry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Dies Cause Pontiac's foldin'
That it's a crying shame
It had to go
While they're counting bailout money
Sitting round the table
There'll be just one car I'm missing
When GM is done.
