    Assuming they are voiding the warranty because they know shit will break, what is the point of the car? 70 grand is cheap for a superfast, fully functional vehicle. But take reliability out of the equation and I could build something a lot more fun for a lot less, and it would very likely hold together longer than this piece of junk. At first it was fine that they engineered the car to within an inch of it's life so you couldn't mod it like the old one. But no track days, hard launches, doughnuts, drifts, spirited driving, smiling, laughing? Fuck this car, buy a 911 turbo, 4-wheel drift the bitch, and still save $20k on new trannys.

    @Clockwork: You know, $70k buys you a pretty damn nice Corvette Z06, and as far as I know you can wallop on it all day and it won't break, not only that, but GM parts are cheap and the warranty is generous.

You didn't see me voiding my warranty when I have to whup King Ghidorah...or Mecha-Godzilla...or King Kong....or the JSDF....or any of those aliens, did you? Hell, no! But you, Nissan, and your fragile "supercar" roll up like Ebirah on a hibachi at the 1st sign of fun. Heck, I had an H-bomb dropped on me and, frankly, it was delicious.......mmmm plutonium. Your GT-R wouldn't last 10 seconds with those little Shobijin, let alone Mothra.


    So don't make me wade out of Tokyo Bay and put my scaly foot in your ass. Cease and desist all invocation of my name with reference to the GT-R. Or else.

    The Porschebunker refused our correspondent's repeated pleas for comment. However, by pressing his unnaturally large ears to the ventilation pipe, unrestrained cackling by the multitude below could be plainly heard.


    I sympathize a little with Nissan. They can't offer legal language that says 'don't drive it like a dick and we'll try to take care of you'. But it's also unfair to sell a performance car with a warranty's that voided if you depress the accelerator pedal.


    Worst of all, this behavior gives people the idea that their car is weak and flimsy. And the accurate idea that it's stunningly expensive to repair when it does break some of its driveline bits.

    While I think it's BS, off-road playtime has always been cause to void warranty. Nissan has just developed the best means to catching you. However, if you can get away with it on the street..who is Nissan to tell you how to drive? If you're on a track and the black box can put together all the numbers and figure that out, well, you're asking for it. If anyone buys a GT-R, you know what you're getting yourself in to.


    I just don't get why everyone acts as though this is the voided warranty is the end of the world..thats implying that all GT-R owners might as well scrap their cars once the warranty has expired due to mileage/age. Who will you curse then, time and/or your odometer?


    Nissan wont cover the GT-R to do anything but driving within the legal limits, and a little restrained playtime. Yeah, it's kinda like soft-core porn..but if it gets you through a cold winter, stop bitching and move on.

    Actually, the Patriot isn't horrible, as it does have enough ground clearance to handle some medium off-road duty.

    @Patrick M Hoey: Yeah...and the launch-control backlash was similarly motivated. How many dump-cltuch starts can you do in an Evo or STI before something lets go? And if you're pushing those limits, how much of a warranty do you deserve?

    Its just not surprising anymore. I think any smart GT-R buyer recognizes the car does not come with a warranty at this point.
