9ff GT9-R: 1120 HP Veyron-Killer Looks To Become World's Fastest Production Car

Yes friends, this is the first image of 9ff's new GT9-R, the sequel to the 9ff GT9. The non-R version hit a top speed of 254.1 MPH from the 910 HP mill under the hood. The new R? We're told the power figure's a whoppingly insane 1120 HP. We don't know what more to expect from the newest attempt from 9ff to build a Veyron-killer, but we do know it's got a real shot at the title of world's fastest production car. 9ff GT9 Hits 254mph, Still Not World's Fastest Car

While 9ff have successfully topped the Bugatti Veyron's top speed of 252mph, they're still 1mph shy of the SSC Ultimate Aero TT's record. That must really sting. The 9ff GT9 will now go on sale, available for the bargain basement price of $854,000.

Just 20 GT9s will be made, so you'd better hurry if you're prepared to settle for second place. Based on a lengthened and chopped 911 GT3 body, the GT9 moves its twin-turbo 4.2-liter flat-six amidships. That engine now makes 987bhp and 711 lb/ft of torque. The entire car weighs in at just 1,326kg. Keepin all this in a straight line is only the driver's nerve and conservative use of the right foot, there's no traction or stability control. Tuner Hoonage: 9ff Looks to Break Bugatti Veyron's Record

Supercar company SSC isn't the only contender for the Bugatti Veyron's speed throne. German Porsche tuner 9ff has spent the past two years working up a 911 it hopes will hit 254 mph, 1 mph faster than the Alsatian Bug. The GT9 is powered by a twin-turbo Porsche flat six displacing 4.2 liters and producing 910-950 hp horsepower. Whether or not the GT9 does unseat the Bugatti at the Nardo test track later this year, you can still get one for the considerable sum of 476,000 EUR. Of course, you might want to wait; that level of cash outlay will go down better if the GT9 isn't merely the second fastest in the world. – Mike Spinelli
