@Pastrafer: True. In addition most modern cars have a Dassault connexion as the software used to design them, CATIA, was initially written by Dassault to design their planes.
Before Jean Todt told Schumacher where to go, he spent years in the passenger seat telling rally drivers what to do next Mr Todt calls the tune for Jean Pierre Nicolas, 1979 Monte Carlo Rally.
With the radiused nose, wide intake, and splitter the original looks a little dated to me. Wicked and intimidating, and I agree about the headlights... but a little dated. The later cars have a bit more timeless style to them, they could almost still fit in with modern GrandAm cars.
@TimTim: I actually agree. Although the first ones were truly stunning at the time, they haven't aged as well. The Evo still looks modern to this day - better than the silly broken chisel-nosed 908 anyway.
@TimTim: Having seen both in the flesh, the 905 was (is) a much prettier car than any of the Daytona Prototypes. Its proportions are a lot nicer, IMHO.
AFAIK, Stan Wattles still races a Lola T92/10, which was a contemporary car to the 905:
@FLB is on vacation: You're right, I didn't intend to agree that it looks like a Grand Am car, because their hideous proportions precludes me from saying anything nice about them at all.
And here's that pic you were trying to post. My kingdom for the preview button back:
I noticed the French need a coupe with full canopy to protect their delicate skin and to keep the dirt and filth from all the foreigners away from them.
The Germans, on the other hand, run open cockpit cars. Is it because they are tougher? Possibly. I think their main reason, though, is so they can bail out quickly when things go badly. It's just more efficient. The other benefit has more to do with diet and the gastrological afteraffects.

Does this mean the end of the diesel era in Le Mans is nigh?

People, people, relax.
I know this car is expensive, but with this car, we can retreat faster than ever.
