Those wheels are awefully small, or is the car just awefully big?

If you're gonna call it the Spark, it should at least be a hybrid. I know - the Oldsmobile Cutlass wasn't really a big-ass sword and the Chevrolet Beretta didn't run on gunpowder. But I don't see a good reason for the name change unless you're going to be doing "truth in advertising."

...well, they probably decided that "Beat" would get turned into "Beater" or other pejoratives.

I still like it, contrary to popular opinion. They changed the reflection line completely, which makes it look way less aggressive and a bit fatter, but it's still 1000x better than Corolla, Focus, Sentra, or a Hyundai, and not nearly as toy-like as a Smart. I kinda prefer the 2door, but understand why they went for a four. Hopefully this will replace the Aveo.

Still in the running for my first car, along w/ the Verve/Fiesta.

I loved the Beat but they really uglified the production version... I just tried comparing the two and I can't put my finger on what it is that destroys it.

@StuLTissimus: What I think destroyed it, first and foremost, was going from 2 doors to 4. It was a spunky little machine before, with a certain Hot Wheels appeal. It looks like they stretched it to make it more competitive with the Honda Fit or something, and in the process it lost a lot of the agility in the design.

Also, look at the roofline; in the original concept there is a beautiful S-curve that runs from the upper rear end all the way up to the front. The curve balances just around the midline of the car, giving it a graceful and symmetrical element that contrasts nicely with the other oversize, slightly odd design elements. But I think it's that curve that really defines the concept car, and it's gone in the production vehicle.

@weatherman: oh, and when I say the S-curve is "gone" I mean that it's still there, but it's not symmetrical anymore because of the added length of the car and the shortened nose, and it also is broken up by the headlamps in a way that it wasn't in the concept. See how the S-curve flows under the headlamps? See how the crease over the front wheel supports the curve? Lovely. And all gone.

As long as A) it doesn't have Daewoo underpinnings, B) is actually sold in NA, and C) isn't destroyed by accountants, this could actually be a decent car.

Hey, Heinz, learn to look both ways.

By raising the roof and squaring it off, they just reinforced the fact that they should have built the Groove instead.
