@500wishes: I believe they're still using the right and left pedal for now. They're waiting for Toyota to free up the ziptie market so they can resume development.
@GreenN_Gold: Toyota tried to save money by replacing the cruise control computer with floor mats.
Why don't you be thankfull to Toyota finally not using a CPU to nanny your drive around town and to their effort to keep you on the left lane.
So, "Vroom vroom" becomes... what? "Bzzz bzzz"? Or "wsshhh wssshhh"? Or "aaahhhhfgggg" (pedestrians getting knocked over by silent death machines must make some kind of noise.)
Gawker is a clearing house for ignorance. US production is up because oil prices are high, making it economically justifiable to access more US wells. Much of US oil is high cost oil, so it can only be pumped at a profit when prices are high. If it takes you all day to catch two fish, do you bother when they're selling for $15 a piece or when they're selling for $75 a piece? If people understood economics there would be no Democrats.
@petersterncan: Relax, the E-Cell is a battery electric vehicle! M-B invested a lot in its plant for compact cars mostly for the A- and B-class replacement, and to put a green spin on the announcement: From the end of 2010 production at the Rastatt plant will also be expanded with small series production of the battery-electric A-Class E-CELL.
No word on production of the evil waste of money oil company wet dream fantasy F-Cell hydrogen vehicle.
The A-Class E-CELL sounds OK: liquid-cooled lithium-ion batteries with a storage capacity of up to 35 kWh and a compact electric motor with a maximum output of 100 kW (continuous output 70 kW), which develops a peak torque of 320 N·m (236 lb-ft).
I wonder if the battery pack comes from Tesla.
The Smart EV should be out in small production numbers before this: The second-generation smart fortwo EV is fitted with a 14 kWh lithium-ion battery pack from Tesla Motors ... A 30 kW electric motor is fitted at the rear and offers 120 N·m of torque.#greencarcongress
Made possible through AMG-grade profit margins. I thought "excellence" and "A-class" weren't allowed together except in the presence of a negative clause. #greencarcongress
This is sad. It used to be guys with wrenches did the tune ups, now guys with "All your bases are belong to us" t shirts will be doing the work. #greencarcongress
Hybrids?
They are not the wave of the future, hydrogen is.
So it makes sense for Ford to farm out some R&D and look like a good corporate citizen while doing it. #greencarcongress
@Ash78 has 5 days left: There was another feature that Audi had twenty-five or so years ago that was called start-stop-take off like a bat out of hell; it wasn’t very popular with the general public, lawyers liked the feature though.

I wonder how the question was phrased. Because if you asked me straight up, I'd assume you meant "just a tax increase in addition to everything else"
Gas tax hike, IMO, is the least of all evils if we want to coax people into more fuel efficient choices.

that used the alternator to shutdown and start the engine in stop and go traffic?

I predict that Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicles will become as popular as vehicles with four wheel steering.
Yes there will be some... but BEVs and hybrids beat the pants off of Hydrogen in almost every way. #greencarcongress
