Senna Hits Stray Dog, Ends Day At Turkish Grand Prix

We watched the first part of the Turkish Grand Prix this morning and after the first corner featured some serious car over car accident action and the Ferrari/Mercedes slap fest, we got a little bored and sought out better things to do with our Sunday. Our mistake. We missed the Bruno Senna stray dog destruction derby. Yep, Fido (do wild dogs have names?) and a friend wandered onto the track. Fido's friend escaped but Fido wasn't so lucky, and ended up being struck by Senna's right suspension. Both the suspension and the dog found their end. Yeah, Felipe Massa may have won the race, but we definitely know who lost. Poor, poor Fido. This video is not safe for members of the ASPCA, small children or anyone else with a strong dislike for seeing dogs accidentally run over on a track. [Eurosport and Youtube]

Australia Might Lose Formula One Race, Ecclostone Says G'day And G'bye

Those planning on attending the Australian Gran Prix this year better enjoy it, as there's some risk that it will be one of the last. According to Bernie Ecclestone, F1's answer to Darth Sidious, unless the race wants to become a night race like the Singapore Gran Prix (which ain't cheap) it might not exist past 2010. The reason is that Ecclestone claims there isn't enough money in the event if it isn't held in the nighttime, which is better for European audiences many time zones away. Of course, this could all just be Bernie trying to scare up a little more support out of the local government. Racing is business, after all is said and done. [AFP via Google]

Boeing 777 Races Johnny Reid in A1 Black Beauty

We knew Top Gear's Bugatti Veyron vs. RAF Eurofighter race would spawn more stunts in the same flavor, but we didn't see this one coming. Organizers of the upcoming A1 Gran Prix in Taupo, New Zealand arranged for a Boeing 777 to take on Johnny Reid in his Black Beauty A1 racer. The first heat saw the big Boeing win with a handicap, the second was even odds and race car easily spanked it's opponent. Makes us wonder how something like the Thrust SSC would do in a race like this. [TV New Zealand]
