I was kinda hoping for a Pontiac OHC six, or maybe one of the engines that never got released, like the V12 that was going to go in the '67 Eldorado, or the DOHC hemi Olds 455. #crateengine
Apparently someone got the memo for a new Corvette crate motor split in two. This years crate motor is for a all the cheVETTE resto-mod guys and gals out there. I can't wait to see next year's CORvair. Between these two engines the original crate motor memo will be accomplished. #crateengine
It's going to give the viewers a chance to plan their next house, 'cause it'll be the crate in which this motor arrives.
/secretly hopes it's a 560 cid, or larger, engine which is beefy enough to tolerate super/turbo-charging, yet fits into 1955-1973 land yachts #crateengine
I used to have a '73 Coupe deVille, and yeah, it handled much like a seagoing vehicle, but it was quite comfy.
The 472, however, wasn't strong enough for sub-8 second 0-60 times. Alternatively, I didn't have my own gasoline refinery, so that's a good thing. #crateengine
@send lawyers, guns, and money: Look at it glass half full though. With such slow acceleration, the pedestrians can easily walk out of your way as you adjust your BlueBlockers in 3 mirrors at once. #crateengine
@FormerlyPreferredCustomer: Nope it is a V8, so maybe Cadillac V-8-6-4 for all those early 80s Cadillac restorations or maybe an Oldsmobile 350 diesel! #crateengine
@FormerlyPreferredCustomer: No, for your information, the Fiero community uses virtually everything but the Iron Duke. The 2.2L Quad4, the 3.8L SC, the 3400 (usually sourced from a gen 4 Camaro), Cadillac 4.9L, the ubiquitous smallblock 350, LS1, LT1, the Quad-Cam 'Vette motor (IIRC wasn't that the LT5 or something?)... there have also been numerous turbochargings of the 2.8L stocker V6... but nobody bothers with the Iron duke. In fact, anyone running a Fiero with the Iron Duke should automatically win IOE at LeMons, because the duke's internals will disintegrate if you look at them wrong or call them a mean name.
Its definitely a varitation of the LS besed on the intake design. It looked naturally aspirated too and even thought the wheels are corvette C5 rims, I can't help but wonder if its a tweaked LS7 (from the Z06) that drops into the Camaro frame. With all this eco crap going on as well, it wouldn't surprise me if it ran on Ethanol or Biofuel or some variant of that. #crateengine
