Years ago, you know, I used to find Mr. Moore amusing. Probably because at the time, there were few of his kind. He was witty, comical and a little intriguing.
Lately, hes lost my interest by being misleading, misinforming, ranting, hating, and finger pointing. It just seems he's gotten too carried away. Now, he just seems like more of a nuisance and just plain anti-corporation.
If capitalism is so horrible Mr Moore then how did you get so rich?
You can't sell yourself as a capitalist and then turn around and tell everyone that capitalism is wrong.
I'm sure you're doing it for the cause correct, and not the money you make.
I'm a standard-issue European-style socialist. I drive a V8-powered Benz and hate Priuses and Cash for Clunkers, but also think health care should be universally accessible, and is a better use of taxpayer money than bombing random countries.
As for all left-leaning people hating cars and car culture, how do you explain modern Germany?
He's an acquaintance of my father and by all accounts a hell of a nice guy. I'm socially liberal (I think gays should have to marry, let them suffer like the rest of us) and financially conservative (I just don't think we should pay for their ceremony) and I don't drink either sides Kool-aid but I think he's amusing.
I don't think either side represents any of my interests and I think they are both beholden to corporate lobbyists. I think a lot of the questions that he asks need to be asked. I don't always agree with his conclusions but he's a hell of a lot funnier than Fox news.
Showing up at whatever financial institution that was with the bags to get our money back cracked me up.
This coming from a guy with 5 Asian bikes and 6 domestic cars that smokes and drinks like a rock star (without the chicks and money of course although I certainly wouldn't mind either or both). Not exactly your stereotypical tree hugging liberal left wing socialist you picture in your mind with your vitriolic hate. But feel free to do so anyway. Almost everything involving politics has long since taken leave of all common sense.
Oh yeah, and the last time I was at his house (I didn't get to meet him but his wife was very nice), they had a AWD Chrysler minivan, an older Lexus RX and a 2000ish VW Beetle. Not particularly pretentious as near as I could tell.
@Bret: There you go, confusing the stereotypes. Pro gay pro gun is enough to send your typical representative for either side into a tizzy. They hate people like us that won't line up.
This man is the left-wing version of Rush Limbaugh: white, male, middle-aged, overweight, sensationalist, angry, and never letting fact get in the way of appeasing his rabid, intentionally ignorant fanbase.
South America, take it away!
EDIT: And that's all I have to say about that. Sorry for adding to the pageviews on this thing.
@FP: Your Volvo is awesome! Anyway: I saw Rush a few days ago on TV he has lost a ton of weight. Everything else is pretty spot on. I find both entertaining but Moore gets a little preachey while Rush does the tounge in cheek thing well.
This thread only makes me want to say one thing, and it doesn't have to do with Michael Moore at all:
It drives me *bats* that car nuts are so overwhelmingly conservative that every single car site I frequent turns into a Limbaugh echo chamber, with only a few exceptions, every single time anything political comes up.
@Unregular: Actually, my daughter just died 2 months ago at 8 days old. You = Fail.
Secondly, A prius is a fucking brick and that was the gayest argument I have ever fucking heard.
BTW, I'm a ASE certified technician and have probably forgotten more about cars than you know, but keep feeling special, thanks.
You can keep feeling special, but the fact remains that the majority of the country doesn't want what the Left is selling and the majority of this country is overwhelmingly conservative. Conservatives out number liberals in every state of the union, so obviously I am not the only one who thinks this way.
@brianesser76: Don't let fact (the 1986 Federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act requires emergency rooms to provide a baseline of care to anyone who walks in requiring it; the Toyota Prius earned at least four stars all around, with the front driver/passenger safety at five stars in a direct side impact) get in your way, old chap. Sorry to promote you. One final thing: today's "gay arguments" are yesterday's "nigger-rigging" jobs; acceptable forty years ago, but they won't be forty years from now.
I'm glad you know how to work on a car, and based on your previous heart-click, you're capable of discussing them eloquently, too. So please, stick to cars, before someone higher up gets peeved.
@brianesser76: hey sorry to hear about your daughter - but i don't see how me asking if you have kids = fail. i should know all about your life?
you seem to think you know who is more FAMILY-ORIENTED. i think you are dead wrong. conservative states have higher divorce rates, more children out of wedlock, and less families with health insurance than "liberal" states. how is that more family-oriented?
now let's see...
the majority of this country is overwhelmingly conservative. WRONG
Conservatives out number liberals in every state of the union, so obviously I am not the only one who thinks this way.
VERY, VERY WRONG. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING REMOTELY CORRECT. EPICALLY, UTTERLY, COMPLETELY WRONG.
Michael Moore doesn't deserve to be mentioned here or anywhere else in this country he seems to hate so much. Roger & Me was the only legitimate thing he ever did, but it wasn't exactly groundbreaking. Read "On a Clear Day, You Can See General Motors" if you want a firsthand (albeit similarly self-serving) account of the idiocy that is/was GM.

@FromaBuick6: I think you are confusing hate, with concern.
Moore loves his country, he hates the fuckups who are running it as their own private nation at the expense of the middle and lower class.
If you dont see that, EVEN if you dont agree with it, then you really have no right to comment since your education in the matter is obviously lacking.
@bzr: oh thats not smug, thats all gas your passing eating that Taco Bell. Just because they say theres a forth meal, doesnt mean you should believe them.
@Jim Topoleski: How dare he hate 'merica! It's in the bill of constitutions that it's illegal to not like the government. But seriously, as a die hard liberal, I agree with many of Michael Moore's points, if not his execution of said tasks. But, he's entertaining and gets the point across so I can't damn him.
@Jim Topoleski: Really? Ask the American troops that he flat out lied and said they said things they didn't? Ask them about him claiming he spoke with them, when he never set foot in the same city as them, or ever met or spoke with them.
He's a fucking liar, and it's proven. He's a fat piece of shit and if the liberals line up behind him, then it only serves to show how full of fail they are.
We now have a government in control by people with his same thinking, and look at how the American people are revolting against their socialist ideas.
We remembered watching a Michael Moore movie about finding the GM chairman a couple of years ago... MM looked everywhere and tried to contact the chairman, everybody keep kicking his ass out of the building.
Guess what? The so–called GM chairman doesn't exist.
@TimTim: I try to stay in the middle for a few reasons. 1. It's a car site first and foremost. 2. Pointless to argue on "paper". 3. I won't get pigeonholed into being a "conservative nut" or a "left-winged zealot" because I am neither. 4. I have little use for people who are, for all intents and purposes, self-serving, before they are anything else.
@Timtoolman, still looking for work.:
@TimTim
You're both Tims, and you both make sense with nearly every comment. For a while, I thought you were the same guy.

Mr. Moore strikes me a a nice guy and is good at what he does. He educates those who will listen and infuriates those who don't.
But then I'm a fiscally conservative, socially liberal, pro gay, pro gun, pro public option sort, in favor of banking regulations; so what do I know.

@ospreyguy: Glad he's made an effort to improve his health - I can't decide whether or not it's a bad thing that Moore hasn't done the same.
@elwood: True, Rush was aptly named for a time, but as far as I know, they both currently get high on the sounds of their own voices.

Its just two sides of the same coin. Both King Ditto head himself, and Moore manipulate the facts to suit their points, but they dont LIE.
Beck is a whole different story though. He lies and outright admits it.
