Was this comment submitted in your unconscious, sans-Klonopin wafer state?

I have been Scrapbooking my heart out, collecting Volt Ads and news stories. I silk screened pretty Volt shirts for the entire family to wear on our Volt outings. I even made my own toy car Volt out of paper mache!
So the way I see it GM, you can consider your options...
One, you kill me, my attack Bichon Frisé kills you, the Volt dies anyway.
Two, you lie, you accept the job, you run, I hunt you down, I kill you, and I kill your mothers for the aggravation you cause me.
Three, you accept the job, you make some cars, you make some money, and you be a greener company.
You better think about it reeeeeal hard Mr. GM guys, because nobidy makes me look like a pretentious arsehole! Am I an arsehole GM? Do I look like an arsehole?
Ohhh... Ughh... were the HELL are my Klonopin wafers?

The point of the above rant is to say that IMO axing the Volt would be the single stupidest thing that GM could do at this point. I fully expect them to do it.

Oh "but you can run the engine at peak efficiency!" you'll say. Well why not get a better transmission, I say.

I sat in three "distressed supplier" meetings this week. Under duress from their lender, one wanted a 'temporary' 20% increase in prices and 10 day payment terms. Turns out they haven't made money since '06.
My Tier 1 auto supplier employer is shutting down for at least half of December, maybe more for some divisions or functions, depending on need & legality. I have accrued vacation and already planned on using Thanksgiving week & Dec looking for another career in a different industry.
Ford's leveraged everything to the hilt including their Ford logo. They own nothing right now like the 0% down homeowner. They are actually in the best shape for the future.
GM's in deep doo-doo, indeed in the worst shape. As I see it right now, the only things that'll keep GM running thru 2009 are two saving options: A) extract thru a merger of unequals (i.e., layoffs & asset sell-off) or 2) Government bailout.
Neither are good for anyone but GM. And doesn't address their product issues.
And I laugh at Cerberus for their hubris at thinking they could run a big car company. Arrogant pricks.
I heard yesterday the NA vehicle build run-rate is now barely 10M/yr.
And 2009 will be worse then 2008 for Detroit. It's going to be series a red-slip parade.
:(

Sorry, Ray, for going all New York Times on you. But this is the sort of thing that spreads pointless hype around.

Unfortunately, they won't get it; at this time and place, it would be political suicide, particularly when they're discussing a merger with Chrysus. "Here, let's give you $25B in taxpayer money, so you can eliminate thousands of well-paying jobs through a merger!" Mmmmm, no.

In any product development cycle, it gets to the point that when someone has done their job, they simply aren't needed anymore; this is not uncommon in aerospace. Perhaps it may have been a software engineer that had been working on contract, and is being let go as a result of both GM's money-saving attempts in response to the toilet economy as well as the fact that they no longer needed him once his job was finished.
I am going to cast my lot with slowinthefastlane on this one and say that the Volt will live on beyond tomorrow.

Ouch. Didn't see that comming. I hope they remember to leave someone to turn the lights off. .

Well not quite, these actually made it out the door...

When I lived in Rochester, NY, I had a neighbor with TWO EV1s. I still can't figure out how they got that far out of California, in 2004.
11/07/08
I live in Rochester and remember seeing one or two driving around a few years back. It may have had something to do with the GM research facility in Honeoye Falls though. Although, I thought they only did fuel cell stuff there.

My friend was joking about it. This is what he said. Maybe Volt is part of Obama's big energy plan to put a million plug-in "hybrids" by 2015. Maybe he's ordering a million Volts from GM! And saves GM!
And that's how Obama becomes my favorite president...
Oh, how I wish that were true...
11/06/08
wait what.. you didn't vote for that??
"Obama and Biden will set a goal that all middle and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year. They will develop national guidelines for service- learning and will give schools better tools both to develop programs and to document student experience. Green Job Corps: Obama and Biden will create an energy-focused youth jobs program to provide disadvantaged youth with service opportunities weatherizing buildings and getting practical experience in fast-growing career fields."

I've already done my crazy joke. One crackpot theory per day is enough.
11/07/08
But hey, it's way easier to just be reactionary.
11/07/08
And requiring 100hrs of community service from college students? Sure, the govt gives them money, but is community service really worth $40/hr? I mean, why even bother with an actual job when they can just do community service to pay off their college? It sounds like a cover for free university program to me.

Perfect.
