I once had a co-worker who'd brag he owned one of the "last of the chrome-bumpered Camaros". Initially, I was thinking of this example of the gen II Camaro. Alas, I'd forgotten about the giant Malaise bumpers that were on the later cars (his was a '75 I think).

Ahh, this is the second-gen I'd like.

I was pretty sure the '73s came from the factory with Giant Malaise Bumpers, though. I know that was the year they grafted the Mile O' Fiberglass™ onto the nose of the 'Vette (with the Other Mile O' Fiberglass™ in the rear arriving a year later).

My first-hand Malaise recollection is that my parents' 1973 220D had normal bumpers and a front seat belt buzzer should either front bucket be occupied but unbelted. Friends of the family bought a 1974 240D;it had big bumpers, a right-side exterior mirror, and an ignition interlock that prevented the car from starting unless the front occupants were both belted.

The friend's daughter and I were in grammar school together, so I was in both car frequently.

Very cool- pretty much the last Camaro before Full-On Mullet status ruined them. Also, while you guys in CA are probably tripping over '70-'73 Camaros countless times a day on your way downtown to the alfalfa-smoothie bar or wherever, I personally can't remember the last time I saw one, even at a carshow (or the poor mans' carshow, AKA the junkyard, for that matter).

Interesting that the ends of the lip spoiler stick out when you open the trunk, but appear undamaged after 36 years.

Notice also that there are no seams between the rear fender, b pillar, roof, and a pillar.

Finally, notice that my comment has no point.

I like the look of the these without the rear spoiler. Or any spoiler. The overall design is clean.

Nice, I especially like the "Amish-man's Beard" front spoiler. It probably knocked 10MPH off the top speed, but it looked tough.

We have enough cars in the sector to compete at this point, what with the Challenger, Camaro, and Mustang. Hell, even the 370Z, M3, and RX8 could compete for all I care; they still fall in the same general category.

@pauljones: I like the '74 Firebird. I have this theory that, if I get one, babes will leave messages on my machine and I'll investigate stuff for them/take them out to dinner. All for $200 a day, plus expenses.

Of course, Stuart Margolin will always get in trouble and drag me down with him. And my cantankerous father will need to bail me out, while nagging me to get a real job. But that's all part of the fun.

@FromaBuick6: I completely agree with your assessment, though I'd probably go for Mr. Rockford's '77 version. My mom had the exact same Camel ext./Camel int. Esprit when I was growing up, so there'd be added nostalgia points there.

That's a pretty much perfect 'maro in my book. 80's aftermarket rims, white lettered BFGs, and the lustre-free paint just adds to it.

The 20xx Camaro needs to come with an available "20 years of abuse" group.
