I think the pick-up is an FX Holden ute circa 1950. #madmax

FWIW a few years ago when I took a tour of one of the Hollywood studios, I saw a display of a screen-used Holden Interceptor from "Road Warrior" and the blower was fake. #madmax

@logruszed: Of course blowers are needed in a dystopia, whoever gets to the nearly depleted resource first, wins. Then it’s off to the next nearly depleted resource.

Remember too that Mad Max could shut off his blower for economical motoring. #madmax

The Falcon XB smacks strongly of the AMC Javelin of the same era, to me. I've sometimes wondered how many drums of Bondo it'd take to sculpt up an Interceptor for the States.

It'd have to be one mother of a clutch to drive the supercharger.

I shudder at the screwed up details on Max's Ford. The original is gloss black, not satin, the original's headlight covers were clear, not mesh, The MFP shield is missing, and the car was destroyed in the second movie. So, even if it is a prequel, there is no way Max would have changed headlight covers two times in between the first and second movies, especially given the survivalist nature of his life between them. Plus, with the kits that are available to copy the front end treatment on the XB, there is no reason NOT to do it properly. I would also postulate that while the ute (a Holden 50-2106 from no earlier than 1951)is cool looking, it would not be practical in the dystopic futurescape that the Mad Max movies postulate.

I hope, if anything, it's the movie which should be in-between Mad Max and The Road Warrior. There was a large gap which I never liked.

Plus, you can't do anything after the mess which was the Tina Turner disaster...'cept maybe detonate several hundred large nuclear weapons.

I see the Holden now has vented headlight covers to reduce overheating issues. Being a fan of this movie and genre, I've read the wedge nose of the original car was intentionally crunched very early in the second film to prevent overheating.

At least filming is to be in NSW. It gets damned hot out there, BTW.

    Out where the river blows
The bloodwood and the desert oak
    Holden wrecks and boeyyels diesaaals
    Steam a 45°....

I need to win the lottery so I can go and perform some of my own hoonery.

The pickup depicted is little too over-the-top for my post-apocalyptic tastes. If they'd not have used the exhaust off a certain Dodge Cummins pickup pictured on Jalopnik (still can't post pics), I'd be better with it, but the desert crazies don't have much else to do with their time, so I can accept it. #madmax

@PowerTryp forever Minardi: We were sitting around the garage shooting the breeze and decided it was time for another LeMons run in the spring, so in preparation I grabbed an angle grinder and some cutting discs and lopped the roof off. Only took about 15 minutes including disc changes. After grinding down all the sharp edges I decided since I'd lightened the back, might as well do the same up front, so I took off both bashed up front fenders, ripped off the one remaining mud flap, and side skirt, started removing the dash and then decided it was time for bed.

    Behold - the #99 Celica GT-Samino! #madmax
