I'm almost ashamed that I know this, but...

Luke lived with his uncle Owen and his aunt Beru. Guess where auntie got her name:

Among the more controversial changes made to the original trilogy for the Special Editions, the Milennium Falcon is seen sporting a pair of Truck Nutz hanging under the sublight engines.

Monocled Opera Attendee: "You got your Jalopnik all over my io9!"

This actually went a lot better than I expected. And yes, I expected a Camaro getting pounded by a Sleestack. The one nice scientist Sleestack, specifically.

This may be obscure, but didn't Qui-Gon/Anakin/Jar-Jar take a ride in a Rinspeed sQuba in Ep I?

I also like to believe that Darth Vader was something like our Sultan of Brunei: he can just ask Sienar Fleet Systems to build him a special TIE fighter to his specs, and they'll make it happen with a smile. Same deal with his bespoke Star Destroyer.

Duh! Thank you so much for pointing out the painfully obvious. Next you'll be pointing out that the spaceship battles are inspired by World War II or that Chewbacca's personality was modeled on Lucas's dog.

You missed a trick on the Falcon writeup - on the first interior shot of the cockpit you can see a pair of dice hanging from the roof, which then mysteriously disappears. Urban myth says they're fuzzy, but they're actually golden.. probably made of fragamantium, or unobtainium or somesuch.

Your movie fetishist/conspiracy nut types claim that's one of Lucas' in-joke references to the pair hanging in the '55 Chevy driven by Harrison Ford's character in American Graffiti. Unfortunately they forget that they weren't actually in that car but in the Impala. He did sneak in a few THX references though.

I remember about 10 years or so the Air and Space Museum had a Star Wars exhibit. The large scale (maybe 4-6ft. diameter) Millennium Falcon model that was used for a lot of the filming was covered in little decals from model cars. There were several Champion Spark Plug decals, maybe some Valvoline ones, and I remember a "Drive Safely" decal too. These are things that would never be visible on film.

I was going to comment on the #9 caption...."refer to girls as counterweights, cupholders or passenger seat warmers", but decided against it. Besides, the cupholder thing has been discussed and recussed in length already today. Besides that, I make a damn good counterweight, cupholder and passenger (and driver's) seat warmer. I hereby submit my photo, Gentlemen.
