<![CDATA[Pagani Zonda F Cinque: Last Zonda Until Next One Heading To Geneva]]> We were under the impression the belligerently awesome Pagani Zonda R's would be the last Zonda. Nope. Apparently, one last Zonda F-based edition will debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Pagani Zonda F Cinque.

The Pagani Zonda F Cinque is something of a bridge between the Zonda F chassis and the next one, the Zonda Cinque (pictured above) gets chassis, aerodynamic, and power upgrades compared to the old car. The Zonda F Cinque is based on the Zonda R and borrows styling and aero elements from the Cinque like the hood scoop, and rear diffuser. Five Pagani Zonda F Cinque cars will be built in the year between the end of Zonda F chassis production and the start of Zonda Cinque production.

So if we want to put this in simpler terms and liken the Zonda F Cinque to Corvette history, this car would be the the 1961-62 model years, borrowing elements of two cars to make one rare and still cool car. Look for actual images and details on the car as it debuts next week at the Geneva Motor Show. [GTSpirit]

<![CDATA[2010 Aston Martin DBS Volante Drops Top Ahead Of Geneva]]> Aston Martin just couldn't wait for next month's Geneva Motor Show, deciding instead to give us an early peak at the 2010 Aston Martin DBS Volante.

Aston Martin is ready to debut its 16th convertible in the company's 95 year history and she's a beauty. The 2010 Aston Martin DBS Volante blends all the comfort and luxury of the standard open-air DB9 Volante with the raw sports car power delivery of 007's favorite ride, the DBS. As with the DB9 Volante, the motorized retractable fabric roof can be opened in as little as 14 seconds, just enough time to get your phone ready to take down that hotty's phone number who's parked next to you at the light. The top stows underneath a sculpted tonneau cover and will make her wonder what else you have hiding in there. She might even want to find out for herself.

Inside the DBS Volante is a leather cocoon with features like a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 13-speaker audio system, integrated iPod/iPhone connector, USB connector and a Hard Disc Drive-equipped GPS navigation system.

The DBS Volante carries on with the same 510 horsepower, 420 lb-ft 6.0 V12 found in the (anything but) standard car and will ruin your new hair style in 4.3 seconds, or enough time to hit 60 mph. It'll carry on until a 191 mph topspeed, but the fun doesn't have to stop there as you can blip the throttle while you downshift through the car's 6 manual gears. If you're more into letting the car do most of the work, then an available automatic six-speed 'Touchtronic' paddle shift gearbox might suit your fancy.

To keep this sex machine rolling down the road, Aston Martin's wrapped a set of Pirelli P Zero tires around the new 20-inch 10 spoke wheels. Those new wheels do a pretty bad job of hiding the standard carbon ceramic brakes, but wouldn't you want to show them off anyhow?

As with the standard DBS, there is an extensive use of carbon fiber throughout the bodywork including the front fenders, hood and trunk lid. All of this black carbon weave helps reduce the weight of the DBS Volante down to a mid-size sedan weight of 3,990 pounds.

If you're dying to know more, feel free to read Aston Martin's novel of a press release below, but if not, stay tuned as we'll have more info and images in the next couple of weeks.

Aston Martin Press Release:

Aston Martin DBS Volante makes its debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto Salon. Completing the Aston Martin DBS line-up, the new Volante will afford customers the combination of the DBS's already-established benchmark sports car characteristics with all the thrills of open-air motoring.

Broadening the DBS's character, the Aston Martin DBS Volante will appeal to drivers who wish to combine the excitement of driving a finely-tuned sports car with the invigorating feeling of being open to the elements. This juxtaposition of ultimate performance and openness stirs the senses on any drive whether an exhilarating jaunt on favoured roads or cruising on lengthy journeys. 'Volante', meaning 'moving with light rapidity', perfectly defines the performance potential and the dynamic characteristics of the Aston Martin DBS Volante.

Featuring a motorised retractable fabric roof, the DBS's beautiful profile is preserved whether up or down. When the roof is closed, it provides a warm comfortable ambience and when open, it neatly disappears behind the new tonneau cover at the touch of a button.

Aston Martin's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez said: "The Aston Martin DBS Volante delivers the utmost relaxed driving experience with the hood up or down. It combines engineering excellence with design perfection.

"The Aston Martin DBS Volante offers a subtle mix of power and performance. Adding to this, the fine craftsmanship - it is an unparalleled ownership and driving experience."

Conceived as a Volante from the outset, Aston Martin engineers opted for a fabric hood to closely follow the silhouette of the DBS coupe and due to its lightweight properties, minimise overall weight gain. Fully retractable in only 14 seconds and at up to speeds of 30 mph (48 km/h), the roof will automatically stow under the newly sculpted tonneau, maintaining the Aston Martin DBS Volante's perfect form - hood up or down.

Power is provided by Aston Martin's hand-built all alloy 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 510 bhp (380 kW / 517 PS), and 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque with a top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h) and 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 4.3 seconds. The nature of the V12, and in particular the torque available at all engine speeds, serves to provide effortless driving in all situations.

Aston Martin's 16th convertible in 95 years, the Aston Martin DBS Volante draws on the marque's extensive experience in designing iconic 'Volantes' and is a 2+2 featuring two occasional rear seats, ideal for young people or extra luggage. In standard specification, the DBS has a rear-mounted six-speed manual gearbox, while an automatic six-speed 'Touchtronic' option is also available. As with the coupe, the Volante is offered with carbon ceramic brakes as standard providing exceptional stopping power. Benefitting from materials derived from the motorsport and aerospace industries, the bonnet, front wings and boot lid are made from carbon fibre all helping to reduce weight.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante also comes with Bang & Olufsen's renowned 'BeoSound DBS' in-car entertainment system, featuring 13 speakers as standard equipment. The BeoSound DBS has been expertly tuned by Bang & Olufsen's Tonmeisters and Aston Martin's acoustic engineers specifically for the Volante resulting in a system that senses when the roof has been retracted and adjusts the sound stage to compensate for extra wind noise, providing an unrivalled automotive audio experience.

Design

Although the DBS was originally conceived as a two-seater sports GT, the potential for a Volante version was always in the minds of the design team. Holding a purposeful stance, the muscular shapes and forms of the DBS have been retained exuding confidence.

Aston Martin's 16th convertible, learning taken from the engineering of previous soft-top cars has resulted in the Aston Martin DBS Volante possessing Aston Martin's quietest and most refined roof system to date. When raised, the fabric roof is insulated with a layer of Thinsulate® material relieving cabin noise and protecting the inhabitants from the elements. The hydraulic pump has been cocooned in a noise and vibration enclosure reducing noise when raising and lowering the hood.

The newly choreographed hood has resulted in an opening time of only 14 seconds due to a new five-piston hydraulic pump. The roof effortlessly stows below the newly-sculpted tonneau cover which has been redesigned to enhance the muscular attributes of the Aston Martin DBS Volante. Housing the Roll-Over-Protection-System (ROPS) which deploys two roll bars in the event of the car rolling over, the rear humps lead your eye to the new carbon fibre deck lid which has been re-styled for the Aston Martin DBS Volante. Particular to the DBS, a line flows from the leading edge of the bonnet past the elegantly sloped windscreen flowing into the carbon fibre deck lid and to the rear boot 'flip'.

As with the DBS Coupe, the bonnet, front wings and boot lid are formed from carbon fibre. Preventing the weave protruding the paint finish, Aston Martin employs a patented 'surface veil' technology applying a 200 micron thick layer of epoxy glue to the carbon fibre, before the application of seven layers of paint producing a class A level of finish.

The interior of the DBS represents the epitome of Aston Martin's commitment to using materials honestly, without disguise or embellishment. Lightweight materials are used throughout to save weight; door pulls are made from carbon fibre, for example, and the carpet has been woven with lighter fibres to save valuable kilograms.

The Volante features 2+2 seating as standard. The beautifully leather trimmed rear seats are ideal for younger persons or extra luggage making the Aston Martin DBS Volante a practical everyday sports car.

Delivered as standard with Bang & Olufsen's BeoSound DBS audio system and seamlessly integrated into the Aston Martin DBS Volante's bespoke interior, the system provides the driver and passengers with an unrivalled audio experience. Consisting of 13 individual speakers and Bang & Olufsen's unique Digital Signal Processing system, the system transforms the Aston Martin DBS Volante into an acoustically sophisticated venue, capable of conveying subtle and striking musical dynamics from every source. The BeoSound DBS has been specifically revised for the Aston Martin DBS Volante and senses when the roof is up or retracted and adjusts the sound stage to compensate for wind noise and change in acoustics.

The Bang & Olufsen BeoSound DBS system has been developed exclusively for Aston Martin. The system is acoustically and physically matched to the Aston Martin DBS Volante, with a design that follows the inherent quality and material honesty of the Aston Martin interior. The loudspeaker grilles are finished with smoothly contoured aluminium so as to integrate seamlessly with the fluid lines and curves of the cabin. When the system is turned on, the twin acoustic lens speakers emerge silently and swiftly, adding a touch of theatre and technological panache that is the perfect complement to the Aston Martin DBS Volante.

As with the coupe, the Volante affords customers the prospect of specifying the optional 10-spoke 20" forged aluminium lightweight wheel with diamond-turned surface - available in either silver or graphite finishes. With an overall unsprung mass reduction of 8 kg, the option aids enhanced handling, improved acceleration, and braking performance.

Performance

The need for high-performance stability, handling ability and low kerb weight defined the DBS's form and construction. The Aston Martin DBS Volante is powered by the same 6.0-litre V12 engine at the heart of the DBS which was launched in 2007. Producing 510 bhp (517 PS / 380 kW), peak power is delivered at 6500 rpm and the 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque is delivered at 5750 rpm. Tractable at any time, the DBS possesses a 'flat' torque curve providing 85% of the torque from 1500 rpm.

The 3.71:1 (manual) and 3.46:1 (Touchtronic) final drive ratio assures that all the Aston Martin DBS Volante's power is useable, while also enhancing in-gear acceleration.

Adding to the sonorous V12 enhances the aural soundtrack. Special by-pass valves in the exhaust allow a quieter exhaust note at low speeds; at 4000 rpm these open to reduce the pressure in the exhaust system, raising the power output as well as generating a rousing aural accompaniment.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante is available as standard with a rear-mounted 6-speed manual gearbox with gear ratios optimised to extract the very best from the 6.0-litre engine. Providing customers with even greater personalisation capabilities, a 'Touchtronic' 6- speed automatic featuring a torque converter is also available as an option.

Derived from the same ZF transaxle unit that was developed for the Aston Martin DB9, the system has been substantially re-engineered to accommodate the power and performance characteristics of the DBS.

System functionality is consistent with that on the DB9, with 'Park', 'Reverse', 'Neutral' and 'Drive' modes selected via facia mounted controls.

When in 'Drive' mode, pulling either of the leather-trimmed magnesium alloy paddles mounted on the steering column will activate Touchtronic mode, enabling the driver to control gear shifts via the paddles. Touchtronic mode is also accessible directly on engine start-up. Alternatively, the 'Drive' mode can be selected at any time by pressing the 'D' control on the centre console, engaging a fully automatic mode which will select the most appropriate gear for the speed and driving conditions automatically.

The system also includes a 'Sport' mode - activated by a button on the centre console - which engages a more aggressive gear shift strategy as gear changes feel sharper and more forceful, engine speed matching on downshifts is more aggressive and in full automatic mode, upshifts occur at higher speeds. The Sport setting also incorporates a more responsive throttle map to match the high-performance characteristics of the Aston Martin DBS Volante.

Control

Contributing to the class-leading levels of rigidity, the VH-platform (Vertical - Horizontal) upon which all Aston Martins are founded, ensures a dynamically accomplished convertible translating into an exciting and communicative chassis. The VH architecture is a bonded aluminium structure that provides outstanding strength and rigidity. In comparison to its coupe sibling, the Volante retains 75% of the rigidity equating to 20kNm per degree. This has been achieved by rigidly mounting the rear sub frame and optimising the front and rear shear panels. Working together these components contribute to more than 20% of the total torsional rigidity.

Augmenting the Aston Martin DBS Volante's supreme handling characteristics is the near perfect weight distribution - achieved by mounting the 6-speed gearbox at the rear placing 85% of the weight between the front and rear axle.

To take full advantage of its extremely precise and rigid platform, the DBS employs a sophisticated Adaptive Damping System (ADS) which is specifically tuned for the Aston Martin DBS Volante maximising ride comfort. It uses two separate valves to set the dampers to five different positions, allowing instant adjustment of the car's ride and handling characteristics. The ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to ensure the driver has high levels of control at all times, with the ability to respond instantly to different driving conditions. The dampers can be 'softer', with a corresponding improvement in ride quality, or 'firm', providing improved body control for more spirited driving.

The damper settings are determined by an electronic control unit which takes sensor readings from the car's systems, including throttle position, brake position, steering wheel rotation and vehicle speed. This data establishes the prevailing driving conditions and the demands the driver is making on the car.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante's Adaptive Damping System perfectly captures the car's sporting character, ensuring that stiffer dampers are available for better handling and control when the car is being driven enthusiastically, without compromising ride comfort during 'normal' driving conditions. A designated 'Track' mode automatically sets all dampers to their firmest positions, making it ideal for circuit driving. The DBS Volante is fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tyres that have been developed especially for the car.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante also has a revised Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system specifically tuned to the Volante to help maintain maximum traction in challenging driving conditions. In default operation, the DSC is automatically on. Select and press the button for two seconds and DSC 'Track' mode is engaged, raising the threshold at which the system intervenes to allow the experienced driver to explore the car's limits. Hold the button for four seconds and DSC is disengaged entirely.

Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes are featured as standard. Providing shorter stopping distances with excellent resistance to fade in even the most demanding driving conditions, the CCM brakes are some 12.5 kg lighter than a conventional system. This results in reducing the overall weight of the car and, in particular, the unsprung weight and rotational masses, further enhancing the Aston Martin DBS Volante's dynamics.

<![CDATA[Nissan NV200: New Small Van Carries Cargo, People To Geneva]]> The new Nissan NV200 we first saw in concept back in 2007 will debut at the Geneva Motor Show boasting either commercial cargo-carrying or passenger-carrying applications. Maybe the Ford Transit Connect should watch its back.

The Nissan NV200 was previously telegraphed as an in-development product last fall but Nissan was tight-lipped on details. Now they've spilled the beans on what is going to be a very fierce competitor in the compact commercial market. The headline figures which set it apart from the current market leader the Ford Transit Connect are a seven passenger option and a maximum interior cargo length of 6.5 feet — half a foot longer than the Ford. It also boasts a higher payload capacity of 1700 lbs versus 1600 lbs along with a lower liftover height. Seems the Nissan folks set their sights at class leading figures when it comes to cargo space. An odd choice was to make the seven passenger seats fixed in the van, and fold away for cargo duties. Maybe a good idea, maybe an Achilles heel.

The avenue where it falls behind a bit is in the powertrain with a relatively weak 1.6 liter four cylinder developing 106 HP and 112 lb-ft of torque. Also optional is a Renault-sourced 1.5 dCi diesel making 84 HP and a much more stout 147 lb-ft of torque. Both engines get mated to five speed manual or automatic transmissions all powering the front wheels. It rides on a McPherson strut front, leaf spring rear suspension just like the rest of the competition.

The NV200 will make it's global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March where hopefully we can get an idea of pricing to go along with these new details.

NV200: NISSAN'S NEW SMALL VERSATILE PEOPLE CARRIER AND VAN
ROLLE, Switzerland (February 24, 2009) – Nissan is preparing a move into the global small van market with the introduction of its all new, spacious yet compact, NV200 small van.

At a glance:

* Three different configurations of NV200
* Sliding side doors for ease of entry
* 4.1 m^3 of loading space in van version
* Economical petrol and diesel engines
* Low cost of ownership
* Family version is seven seat people carrier
* Global model for multiple regions

Designed from the outset as both a commercial and a passenger vehicle, the Nissan NV200 brings new levels of space, comfort and practicality to the small van market, both in Europe and other global markets.

NV200 will be available in three different versions: a van with the largest load space in its class and two seven seat variants – the functional Combi version for loads and passengers, and the more plush passenger car version, which will be shown at Geneva Motor Show next month.

"The Nissan LCV business is in a phase of expansion even in these challenging financial circumstances," said Andy Palmer, Senior Vice President, Global Product Planning, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. "We aim to expand our business with smart new products and services that meet the needs of our customers, both in Europe and around the world."

He added: "The NV200 is our proposal for a global small van. It offers outstanding utility and smart convenience with low cost of ownership, packaged in a highly functional design. With this vehicle, Nissan aims to meet the needs of customers looking for a functional, adaptable light van. We will launch the NV200 in Japan before summer, in Europe in autumn 2009 and then in China and other markets."

Maximised cargo area
NV200 uses innovative packaging ideas to create the largest and most practical cargo area in its class. Although a little under 4.4m in overall length, the van version of the NV200 has a load bay that's more than 2m long (2040mm).

With front-wheel drive and the adoption of a highly compact rear suspension system, the NV200 can house two standard Euro pallets in the cargo area at a time. At 1.84m high NV200 is no taller than its rivals, while at 520mm from ground level, the floor itself is the lowest in the class to ease loading, helping to boost the cargo volume to 4.1m3. Maximum payload is 771kg.

Spacious interior
A large cargo area is a vital attribute for a van, of course, but the generous interior dimensions of NV200 also translate into ample passenger space in the Combi version.

Unlike some other manufacturers that fit removable seats – which are invariably heavy to lift and need to be stored elsewhere when not in use – the seats in the Combi stay with the vehicle at all times. The middle row backrest has a 60/40 split to increase versatility and the entire assembly tumbles forward to fold flat against the front seats, while the rear pair fold individually to either side of the load area.

Throughout the creation of NV200, attention has been paid to ensuring the highest levels of quality with shut lines and panel gaps in line with the expectations of passenger car buyers.

While the van is optionally available with a side window, it differs from the passenger versions at the rear where it has twin side hinged "French" doors. Both seven-seaters have a fully glazed top hinged tailgate – though the Combi will be available with French doors - while the windows on both side doors have a sliding section for extra ventilation.

Road car platform
Built on a modified version of Nissan's B Platform, NV200 has fully independent strut type front suspension mounted on a separate subframe and a compact and lightweight yet robust wide leaf spring rear axle.

Performance comes from a choice of two engines, one petrol and one diesel.

The petrol version will be powered by Nissan's renowned all aluminium 1.6-litre HR16 engine, as found in Micra, Note and Qashqai. Displacing 1,598cc, the 16-valve unit develops 79kW (108PS) and 153Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

The diesel, also found on Note and Micra, is Alliance partner Renault's acclaimed 8-valve 1.5 dCi (K9K) 1,461cc engine. Developing 200 Nm of torque and 63kW (86PS), it offers an ideal blend of performance, refinement and fuel economy. Power is transmitted through a five-speed gearbox.

To create more space in the cockpit, the gearlever extends not from the floor but from the two-tone wrap around centre console. Above the gearlever, the centre section houses the heating and ventilation controls and the double DIN radio slot. Heating and ventilation extends to all three rows of seats.

Well equipped
The NV200 is available with an optional rear view parking camera, a first for a van in this segment, while the cabin is full of storage spaces, pockets and cup/bottle holders. There is also a secret storage space large enough to hide a camera, mobile phones or vital documents within the upper portion of the glovebox.

Joining the parking camera, other car-like items of standard or optional equipment include features such as Nissan's Intelligent Key, power windows and ESP. Safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes with brake assist (BA) and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) as standard. Driver and passenger airbags are also standard with side bags available as an option.

Pedestrian safety has also been considered with extra crash absorbing material in the bonnet and the adoption of an energy-absorbing bonnet.

Low cost of ownership
Cost of ownership is projected to be among the lowest in the class thanks in part to the low running costs and high efficiency of the engines and drivetrains, but also thanks to the safety structure which helps to minimise crash damage to vulnerable under bonnet parts such as the radiator.

"With its intelligent layout and packaging helping to give it the largest cargo area in its class, NV200 delivers the right combination of functionality and efficiency. That same practicality can be found in both the Combi and passenger version, but with the added benefit of car-like comfort and features," said Dominique Correze, Vice President, Nissan's European LCV Business Unit.

<![CDATA[Giugiaro Frazer Nash Concept: World's Fastest Hybrid]]> We don't know why Giugiaro named this after a long-defunct builder of idiosyncratic British sports cars, but the Frazer Nash concept is looking to become the world's fastest hybrid with a 186 MPH top speed.

Aside from a car which looks more Lamborghini than Targa Florio, the Frazer Nash Concept has a central boast of "World's Fastest Hybrid" with a claimed top speed of 186 MPH. Sort of an odd and probably specific claim around a traditional gasoline-electric passenger category since KERS equipped F1 cars will probably be kinda fast and there have been some pretty quick land speed record hybrids. Semantics aside, the Frazer Nash Concept will debut next month at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, where it will compete against the Rinspeed iCharge for most lauded one-off engineering exercises. <![CDATA[Infiniti To Reveal Concept Car, Louis Vuitton Luggage At Geneva]]> Hard to imagine a stranger marketing fit than French luxury bag maker Louis Vuitton and Infiniti, Nissan's re-badged luxury brand, but they're partnering on a new concept debuting at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

Infiniti has managed to keep the concept car they're debuting at Geneva pretty hush-hush, but given the recent precedents across the industry, we can expect to be beaten over the head with a series of nonsensical teasers any time now. We do know one thing — it will be packing some custom Louis Vuitton luggage somewhere in the car. We can't say it'll be in the boot for sure because, you know, it's a concept car, it may not even have a trunk. It may be a 'luxury enclosed space" or an "exclusive stowage section." Seriously, sometimes the marketingspeak is just ridiculous. And what is that thing in the picture anyway — is that a custom seat cushion? A wedge laptop bag? This makes no sense. Yet.

INFINITI PACKS LOUIS VUITTON FOR GENEVA

ROLLE, Switzerland (February 5 2009) - Infiniti, the luxury car company from Japan, has announced its collaboration with Louis Vuitton, the French luxury brand, for the creation of a bespoke set of luggage for a concept car to be revealed at the 2009 International Geneva Motor Show next month.

The dramatic concept will be a celebration of Infiniti and its 20 years history as a creator of performance cars. But equally it will be an inspiring exploration into the brand's future.

For Louis Vuitton, this collaboration is the latest in a long heritage of designing custom luggage for special automobiles.

<![CDATA[2010 Porsche 911 GT3: Now With Photo Gallery, Video]]>
We got a chance to show you a couple pictures of the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 this morning, but now the cat's fully out of the bag along with some great track footage below.

Just in case you've already forgotten, the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 is packing a 435 HP punch from its 3.8 liter flat six allowing for a 0-60 time of roughly 4 seconds and a top speed of 194 MPH. Also, the use of magnetorheological engine mounts will allow the little track rat to seem civil enough to drive your wife around town without her incessant complaining. Well, that probably won't stop it much. Enjoy the full gallery below.

Next Generation Porsche 911 GT3 to Make World Debut in Geneva
Improved Aerodynamics, Suspension, Braking Distinguish 2010 GT3

ATLANTA, Jan. 29 — Porsche will launch the fastest, most powerful 911 GT3 to-date at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3, 2009. The high performance GT3 is the latest in the new generation 911 series and carries over a wide range of expertise learned from motorsports — resulting is superb capabilities both on road and on track.

The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 raises the performance bar thanks to an increase in engine size to 3.8 liters and VarioCam technology now on both the intake and exhaust. The naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine develops 435 bhp, 20 bhp more than its predecessor.

The new, larger engine offers a significant increase in torque at medium engine speeds, which is particularly important for everyday driving. Track performance is also improved; the new GT3 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 194 mph.

Improved Suspension

Driving dynamics have also been enhanced, and the new GT3 offers even better grip and stability. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) has enabled Porsche's engineers to make the springs and anti-roll bars stiffer, thus ensuring even more precise handling in sport mode, while retaining a level of comfort suitable for everyday use in normal mode. For the first time, the 911 GT3 comes standard with Porsche Stability Management (PSM), with suspension mapping mirroring that of the GT2. The driver can disengage both stability control and traction control in separate steps.

Refined Aerodynamics

At high speeds, aerodynamic improvements have increased downforce at both the front and rear, more than doubling the effect of the previous GT3. At the same time, the new aerodynamics package, with larger vents in the front and rear bumpers gives the GT3 a brand-new look, accentuated by standard bi-xenon headlights, LED rear light clusters and modified air intakes and outlets.

Innovative Engine Mounts

The new GT3 will be available with new and highly innovative dynamic engine mounts. Utilizing magnetic fluid, these inventive mounts automatically stiffen to create a more solid coupling between the engine and chassis when the car is driven energetically. This provides a sporting, rigid assembly on fast bends and winding racetracks yet allows for engine isolation and increased comfort while driving in everyday traffic. Traction is also improved when accelerating from a standstill.

Upgraded Brakes

With driving dynamics and performance at an even higher level, the brake system, following a long Porsche tradition, has also been enhanced accordingly. Brake discs are larger and feature an aluminum hub to reduce weight. Increased brake ventilation ensures a high level of brake power over long periods, and the GT3 can also be equipped with PCCB ceramic brakes, developed specifically for this model.

Creative Front End Lift

A new lift system for the front axle is also available. By utilizing an on-board air compressor, the front of the car can be raised for steep driveways or inclines. A the touch of a button raises the front ride height by 30 mm, or 1.18 inches and at speeds up to approximately 30 mph. New, lighter GT3 specific center lock wheels and ultra-high performance tires round out the functional and visual enhancement of the GT3.

The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 will be available in the fall of 2009, MSRP $112,200 US.

<![CDATA[2010 Porsche 911 GT3: 435 HP, Priced From $112,200]]> The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 has been revealed ahead of the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. With a base price of $112,200, one would expect it to deliver some walloping technology. It doesn't appear to disappoint.

The 911 GT3 continues pushing the definition of what a rear-engined car is capable of and with a 20 HP bump up to 435 HP from the 3.8 liter flat six, 0-60 MPH is in 4.0 second range with a top speed of 194 MPH, but that's not really the news here. The real word on the new GT3 is technical refinement. That 3.8-liter flat six gets Porsche's Variocam system hooked onto the both the intake and exhaust for the new car, improving performance throughout the rev band. Torque is claimed to be improved but no figures have been given at this point.

That engine rests on magnetorheological engine mounts, meaning the mounts can go from heavy dampers to keep things smooth in the cabin to solid bricks with no flex, transmitting every ounce of power to the wheels. That power gets routed through a suspension designed with stiffer springs and anti-roll bars while ride comfort is supposedly unaffected. That suspension does another trick too, by utilizing an onboard compressor, and what we assume is an airbag system, the car can raise itself 1.18 inches to make it easier to get over speedbumps and up ramps.

Other improvements include aerodynamic considerations, new two piece brakes with an aluminum center section to cut unsprung weight, fancy bi-xenon headlights, LED tail lights and modified air intakes. Current details available below and we'll have the complete details when the car debuts in March.

<![CDATA[The Booth Professionals of the 2008 Guangzhou International Auto Show]]> As a result of covering an auto show or two in our time, we've become veritable connoisseurs regarding the mistresses of motors we lovingly refer to as Booth Professionals. We've brought you delightful displays of debutantes from far away locations such as Geneva, Paris, Las Vegas and Detroit. Apologies for the blurry nature of a few of these pictorials, we've got the shakes from a bit of bad Mu Shu pork.

<![CDATA[Geneva Project Hell? Aston Martin V8 Vantage]]> As we were exiting the incredibly trippy Schtroumpfs residential development, our eye caught something sleek and silver and slowly floating down the road on a flatbed. This Aston Martin V8 Vantage seems to be in the midst of a restoration and probably becoming a new man's Project Car Hell. We couldn't quite nail down the vintage, but it looks like early 70's for this lithe British beast. The fella with the Touareg seemed happy with the attention the car garnered, but we would have lost our minds driving that big trailer around the cramped streets of Geneva.

<![CDATA[DOTS Geneva: A Tiny Something Or Other]]> We have no idea what this is, but after the Peel Trident, this is probably the smallest street legal vehicle we've ever seen. And despite our best deciphering and sleuthing efforts, it remains unidentified. F-gobble-de-gook Tech was the best we could get out of it. How can someone get into this thing and feel fine about it? We'd rather take our chances on a regular scoot, at least there you can jump away from a wreck. But hey, this is a convertible and has those fancy, new fangled canvas doors.

We're not modern European traffic law standards scholars, but we're assuming there is a 50 cc quadracycle kind of niche carved out below regular cars as kei cars work in Japan. This particular one has a 50 cc license plate which we assume means a 49 cc scooter motor and you can see the CVT poking out the bottom. I suppose if you don't want to put up with the wind and maybe have an inner ear infection causing vertigo and mild insanity, this makes sense.

<![CDATA[2009 Infiniti FX50 Lands In Geneva, Impresses Booth Professionals With 5.0 Liter V8]]> Remember when only muscle cars had 390 horsepower? Of course you don't. Therefore, it shan't give thee pause the new 2009 Infiniti FX50 has the same. That by way of Nissan's 5.0 liter V8 — that outpowers BMW's X5 4.8i — over a seven-speed transmission. Other than a significant facelift, the longtime oddball SUV gets a four-wheel double-wishbone suspension with active Continuous Damping Control (CDC); four-wheel active steering and intelligent brake assist. The most notable interior feature, other than the 11-speaker Bose audio system and active safety gewgaws like intelligent cruise control and Distance Control Assist (DCA), is the new 360-degree Around View Monitor system, shared with its smaller EX counterpart. The FX50 will hit the US mid-year before a European ship date in the fall, followed by stoplight-to-stoplight guffaws involving errant X5s in Basel.

<![CDATA[DOTS Geneva: Citroen 2CV]]> We haven't run the numbers, but there is an assumption the Citroen 2CV makes a decent showing when scored by our official guidelines. We caught this one parked alongside the Eglise Russa (Russian Church) and couldn't help but snap away like it was freshly unveiled. The French horse was tucked in tight and of course passers by assumed we were either French or insane while standing in the road admiring its underpowered glory.

<![CDATA[DOTS Geneva: Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano]]> Wandering around Geneva, a couple of things become readily apparent. First and foremost, this is a rich-ass city. Banks and ultra high end luxury stores are as common as faux hawks, and the Audi RS4 is a commoners' car. Another thing you notice quite quickly is how a city situated between two mountain ranges at the bottom of a giant lake gets kinda windy. I'm not going to step on Chicago's toes, but there may be a lost ear on the Rue De Mont Blanc Bridge. The brutal cold wasn't enough to keep us from finding this Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano parked street side.

Look, the Ferrari is dirty! It's parked next to a curb. Its down there in the grit and dirt just like every other car. We never thought we'd see the day, but there it is.

<![CDATA[Pininfarina Sintesi Concept Hits Geneva Show Floor]]> Pininfarina's Sintesi concept may remind us of the company's Birdcage 75 concept (that's like Airport 75 with less George Kennedy) from a few years back. But it does have quad scissor doors, which means it qualifies for double-Lambo status. That'll get you a free drink at any Dave and Buster's. Also, the dash has that so-cool-it-burns quality that happens when ergonomics engineers drink too much Aquavit and have guilty sex with each other.

<![CDATA[Maserati GranTurismo S Revealed Live In Geneva]]> What a difference 25 years makes. Maserati, once tainted by bad business deals and shoddy merchandise, not to mention an ill-fated tieup with Chrysler products, Maserati is a plain-out player these days. The Pininfarina-designed GranTurismo is a stunning car in any format, and with a 440-hp Ferrari-derived V8 and new MC-Shift dual-clutch tranny, it'll likely gain a few extra grains of road respect among the Aston-Martin-Uber-Alles set. Maserati reps assure us the automanual is a real achievement, not just some sluggish wetbox. Meow. Full press release after the jump.

Maserati presents the GranTurismo S

Modena - February 26th, 2008. A year after the unveiling of the GranTurismo, Maserati will be back at the Geneva International Motorshow with yet another world premiere, the GranTurismo S. The ultimate expression of the Trident coupé's sportiness shifts the emphasis onto performance and driving enjoyment.

Two main novelties are at the heart of the new Maserati: the 440 HP V8 4.7 engine and the electro-actuated gearbox with fast MC-Shift arranged in the Transaxle layout typical of high-performance sports cars that represents the technological DNA of all Maseratis.

The GranTurismo S makes use of the high-performance brake system developed in collaboration with Brembo and introduced for the first time in the automotive field on the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S. The system features front brake discs made with dual-cast technology - a dual casting of cast iron and aluminum, paired with aluminum mono-bloc 6-piston brake calipers, ensuring optimized braking performance.

On the exterior the Maserati GranTurismo S is characterised by a number of aesthetic modifications that, although discrete, are highly effective and make the car body appear sportier without abandoning the sleekness of the lines masterfully designed by Pininfarina.

The interior upholstered in Poltrona Frau leather and Alcantara reflects the sporty flair of the Maserati GranTurismo S; the figure-hugging front and rear seats are distinguished by their new dynamic design with horizontal piping on the seats and seatbacks

<![CDATA[Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Uncovered at the Geneva Motor Show]]> With nary a word spoken, and just a quick-cut video of popping champagne bottles and various sheetmetal angles, Lambo took the velvet sheet off black and white versions of its new, faster, lighter Gallardo — the LP560-4. As we already know, it's got a 5.2-liter V10 560 ps (552 hp). We've yet to corner the Lambo people to get the dirt on what makes this engine similar to the Audi RS6's V10, so suffice to say the LP560-4 is lighter than the base Gallardo by around 44lbs and comes in at least two "colors." Five out of five statuesque Italian models agree.

<![CDATA[Pininfarina Sintesi Concept Fully Revealed]]> The slow strip tease is over and the Pininfarina Sintesi is finally unveiled for all to see. We first caught the Sintesi a couple of weeks ago when most of the conceptual mechanical details were set free, now we know what things really look like. Sporting not one, but two sets of scissor doors, the Sintesi is practically an homage to street racing hooligans everywhere. Granted the fuel cell and heads up display technology in the Sintesi makes the average bad custom car look like it was crafted in the stone age. We're looking forward to seeing the car when we head over to the land of chocolate and blonds for the upcoming Geneva Auto Show. [Pininfarina.com]
