Execution and innovation aren't mutually exclusive, but it must be recognized that one gates the other. Start with something easy, get profitable, then worry about shifting paradigms.
(Pardon my rant, I currently toil as an engineer in a company with a CEO who fancies himself a visionary, but is completely incompetent when it comes to actually running a company).
@Mad_Science: Well said. Of course this is a country that convinces every child that they are a special little flower just by the nature of glory of who they are; so I just see more of his type coming.
From Wikipedia: Musk is the name originally given to a substance with a penetrating odor obtained from a gland of the male musk deer, which is situated between its stomach and genitals.
You sir, were named after the stink of an ungulate's happy trail.
Actually, the symbolism I was going for was that Elon Musk is Casey Jones, Tesla is the train, Lady in Red is Justene Musk, and cocaine stars as cocaine.
But both songs do tie in quite nicely to Casey Jones, though.
@philibuster: No point. In the New Economy resulting from all this hullabaloo with banks doing naughty things in the 'States, the cost of exploratory drilling and/or new drilling rigs has become prohibitive when oil is at any point below about $75/barrel. A whole lot more drilling would push the price of oil down further, which would mean they'd be even LESS likely to do it.
The strange thing is that this bugs me at all, even with a truck that gets just over 13 mpg. That should bother me, but without a job to go to, I only have to fill my tank once every couple of months.
I'd still rather have a job, and pay a king's ransom for the privilege to drive there each day. Then I could afford to get my Fiero back together, and start getting 30 mpg on the commute, so I could subsequently afford to finish more of my projects.
@jduffy13: I'd agree with you about 90%--in most parts of the US, there is usually no choice to live near your work (or school, etc).
I mean, I COULD live walking distance from work, but they're all run-down 1930s shacks in a very poorly-run suburb. So do I have a choice? Sure. But I can't allow my job to dictate all of my life's choices, so like most Americans, I commute in the car. And I'll still bitch about gas prices because it gives us all something to talk about.

Most folks that have the capital probably see him for the shyster he is, but who knows maybe he'll get some bailout cash somehow.

It think he's really dedicated to making this work...but like the article jokingly points out, "leaves the details to others".

For every Clever Idea that makes it, there are countless others dead on the side of the road due to failed execution.
Meanwhile, tons of businesses chug along, happy and profitable because they perfectly execute unglamorous products or services.

Casey jones is ready, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.
This old engine makes it on time,
Leaves central station bout a quarter to nine,
Hits river junction at seventeen to,
At a quarter to ten you know its travlin again.
Driving that train, high on cocaine,
Casey jones is ready, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.
Trouble ahead, lady in red,
Take my advice youd be better off dead.
Switchmans sleeping, train hundred and two is
On the wrong track and headed for you.
Driving that train, high on cocaine,
Casey jones is ready, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.
Trouble with you is the trouble with me,
Got two good eyes but you still dont see.
Come round the bend, you know its the end,
The fireman screams and the engine just gleams...

Well they gave him his orders at Monroe, Virginia,
Said: "Steve, you're way behind time,
"This is not 38, this is Ol' 97,
"Put her into Spencer on time."
Then he turned around and said to his black, greasy fireman,
"Shovel on a little more coal.
"And when we cross that White Oak mountain,
"Watch Ol' '97 roll."
And then a telegram come from Washington station,
This is how it read:
"Oh that brave engineer that run ol 97,
"Is lyin in old Danville dead."
'Cos he was going down a grade making 90 miles an hour,
The whistle broke into a scream.
He was found in the wreck with his hand on the throttle,
Scalded to death by the steam.
(Sorry it just seems to go along with Casey Jones)

At least DeLorean had a little more character to with his cocaine.
