How many people really think a qwerty keyboard on the instrument panel is a good thing?

If I could retrofit this display to my Lagonda, that would be very helpful.

It seems primarily just a lot of delicate electronics that will be prone to bugs and failures. When the system gets a little wonky (because it's a lot moire than just a video dashboard) will I be able to drive at all, will it go into a limp mode, or will it ignore itself?

A few of the features - like charting a fuel efficient trip might be useful. Others, like helping people put their cars on Facebook seem counterproductive or simply dangerous. Too bad it looks like Chrysler's future doesn't include cars built for driving.

And no, we don't need the Orwellian nightmare of cars that keep track of our every move, ready to tattle to the dealer or the police. It's bad enough already.

Am I the only one getting a serious X-Box 1 vibe off this thing? The green orbiness, the font, the 30 seconds in Bryce lighting effects.

it's going 65 mph in park?

Looks like a smart phone, except less safe and impossible to upgrade.

The only gauge you need on the dash is the speedometer, everything else is superfluous.

How many accidents will that thing be accountable for?

@jduffy13: Speed and tach, though I guess with the majority of new cars sold being automatics it doesn't really matter.

@fwa2500: My mother's '95 Contour with a manual didn't have a tach. Our current second car, a '97 Mystique (same thing) with an automatic, does.

    Don't get it.

You're right about the gauges. Her New Beetle has the giant speedometer, with gas and tach in the lower corners; my Volvo's got a huge speedometer and a huge clock, with the little gas gauge, etc. off to the side. Either layout is preferable to this.

@FuzzyPlushroom: When I was in Boy Scouts, I was riding back in my friend's father's Nissan Hardbody pickup. It was a manual, but no tach.

"How do you know when to change gears?" I asked him.

"Oh, I just listen to the engine."

Wow, I thought. This guy must be awesome.
