@skaycog - 1000 Club: It's ok, I made it snow in Alaska... Well... not exactly me making it but I said.. hey, those clouds look like their going to snow! And sure enough, the snow was falling... Well... I didn't exactly say, oh it looks like it's gong to snow as much as see it snowing and point it out...
@skaycog - 1000 Club: I had a dream that mini-poisonous turkeys, the size of baseballs, were attacking us on thanksgiving...explain that Freud, although I'm sure if he did, it would have something to do with sex.
@Leeeeena - 1000 Club: I have the most ridiculously insane but usually cool dreams you've ever heard of. They're incredibly realistic and detailed, and if I'm allowed to wake up naturally, I have them every day. I usually remember them in vivid detail for an hour or two and then they fade, but are sometimes brought back by something later in the day. Maybe I'll start sharing my daily dreams with you guys when I wake up - a lot of people have told me I need to write them down for posterity.
@Tower of Power: Please to meet you, Sir. Do you like to be called Mr. Tower or Mr. Power? I'll probably call you both. :) As for your dream of mini-poisonous turkeys, I'm a Freud I can explain that either. Glad to have you here!!
@skaycog - 1000 Club: It is weird. I am kind of a weather dork and this thread made me wonder if I had missed any past stormy threads and BAM, over 900 comments on a storm thread! By the time I read most of it it was already over 1000.
@TowerOfPower: Things happen for a reason....you were supposed to do this with us! Mr. Syrax and I (and pj) were having some weather related comments in 'Storm Chasers'....he made a great weatherman.
To all my friends, old and new, far and wide.....have a wonderful evening and a pleasant good night!!!! Again, great job on reaching our goal this morning. Love you guys!! :)
@skaycog - 1000 Club: I checked his name after you mentioned it... Think he wants a hug or something? He did play an instrumental part in starting the 1000 Club.
Oh, and you commenters more awesome than me, how do you favourite posts?
@.357: Where did everyone go? What can possibly be more important than this?
This has got me looking back on my Autoblog days with pity. Those commenters could never pull off somthing this big, even though they have more stars than we do.
@Mobius_1000_Club: It's pretty late for here. I'm just chilling, watching TV. Most people are sleeping. And, Autoblog flat out sucks. I was there for like a week. Then I found Jalopnik. And, they have no stars. Their commenting system is whack, most commenters possess no interesting things to say, and above all, the take everything too seriously.
@.357: Each comment has 2 stars by default on Autoblog, last time I checked, although those are tiny in value compared to Jalopstars. The commenting system fundamentally discourages 1000 reply threads, and fails at photos and html formatting which makes Jalopnik so much more... lively.
@Mobius_1000_Club: Autoblog has the priority in the stories they make. Gawker Media puts the priority in the site/commenter interaction. That's why Jalopnik's awesomeness can't be beaten. Also, good morning everybody! It's holiday here (Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932) and it's sunny so I think I won't be here too much.
@Mr. Tower of Power: One of the few things we know about each other is location. I'm in Colorado. The rest can tell you where they live (more comments that way). If you don't want to tell, that's okay too! Good morning!
@Syrax: Yep. Completely agree. Except that lots of Autoblog articles are boring and/or useless. I think they must report every single variant of the Mustang.
How you guys doing this morning? I only got a couple hours of sleep last night again, so hopefully I'll be rippingly funny again today, and get passed over for COTD by Matt again.
@skaycog - 1000 Club: Ah...well I feel dumb. I should have figured that out since you kept calling Leeeeena girlfriend in the last post. That phrase doesn't work so well when a guy says it in that context.
@.357: Besides, since they are there by default, it's not any accomplishment to get them.
I remember when Autoblog had a +/- voting system for comments, and if enough people + clicked you, you would become "highly ranked" or "highest ranked" instead of "neutral". That was sort of cool, since you could get a general feel for people's thoughts on any given comment, but given the amount of interaction we have in the comments on Jalopnik, we don't really need it to get people to voice their opinions.
@Leeeeena - 1000 Club: Hey, what do you guys want to do about this auto-playing embedded video bullshit? I'm almost thinking we should start adding comments in new threads until we hit page 3 and then migrate to a video-less page. Hopefully either Gawker or YouTube will fix that first, though...
@Leeeeena - 1000 Club: Yeah, I remember that from the days that I was on Autoblog. (Before I found the magic of Jalop) I think I still have an account there.
@skaycog - 1000 Club: Womenfolk like cars? What the fuck? Are pigs flying? What is happening to the world? I need to go back to my gun club. No women there.
@Leeeeena - 1000 Club: Hmm, the videos don't autoplay in Firefox but I tried IE and they do. I didn't realize that they autoplay. Of course I had to be the dumbass to put them up. Is there a way I can edit old comments and delete them?
@TowerOfPower: Nope, we don't have any edit functions.
It seems to be sort of hit and miss whether they start playing or not. The two videos in this thread do for me, but other commenters have linked to videos in other posts and they seem to be acting normally and only playing when you click on them. I think I might just keep a Firefox tab open for this thread until Nibbles sorts the autoplaying stuff out.
@.357: Gotcha. So, you belong to a gun club? Remember I told you I have a .38 Lady Smith? I need to practice with it....I'm not comfortable with it when it's loaded.
@.357: No worries, I am extremely even-tempered and mellow most of the time. I think it's a prerequisite to being a Californian :)
pj, I'm actually totally straight. I'm very open-minded and have tried a lot of stuff, but have figured out by now what does it for me or not. That doesn't prevent me from appreciating something remarkable, though, and beautiful bodies, whether male or female, definitely fall into that category. Besides, I know you guys enjoy it ;)
@Mobius_1000_Club: My days of commenting have ended I think... It was really just a way to pass time at work, but I can't even log in at work anymore due to no backwards compatibility on gawkers part. Sorry guys... Oh well.
@pj134 can comment from work no more: I thought weird too. Sometimes you have something cool to say but you'll be blocked out because you're not starred. Here's something a commenter wrote on Kotaku (I know it's gigantic but bear with me):
I came to understand, that pretty much everyone on Gawker's main site is a friggin star-commenter. The rest was thoroughly ignored, pretty much. Especially with their concerns.
Mr. Denton, while addressing most technical issues, ignore more of the philosophical ones, with the exception of the following statement: "That's more or less it. We let the comments get out of hand -- the audience is about five times the size it was when we first launched comments. We want to showcase the smarter comments -- but without creating a static caste of elite commenters. Hence the ease with which a smart comment can be promoted to the front of a post. "
Personally, I feel he failed pretty bad at not creating static caste of elite commenters, especially after he created a system for caste of elite commenters.
We didn't have any elites before, because we treated everyone equal.
Now we're hiding away those "nor worthy" and I can't for the life of me see that actually making this place better.
Screw this shit. I don't appreciate being treated as a second class visitor while some elitists with stars get all the attention. Most star commenters I have read don't say anything worthy of privledges. Most of the really good comments come from the now second class user. So if you want to bury those and have the elitist comments prominent, don't be surprised if the site traffic drops.
With that, I say kiss off. I'll take my traffic and comments to another gaming blog where everyone's comments are displayed equally be default, without any segregationist bullshit class system in place.
@Mobius_1000_Club: I actually liked some aspects of the old commenting system better, though. Like how a new comment appears where you replied, not all the way at the top.
@Syrax: If I weren't a star, I'd be somewhat pissed off. I can completely understand the pain of being ignored. Hey, it happens all the time in real life, and I'd rather it didn't happen on the internet.
And he's right about many star commenters having nothing that important to say. Heck, what exactly did we talk about on the 1000 thread?
Maybe, just maybe, Gawker could treat all comments equally but let us stars demote comments? We know a troll when we see one.
However, going to another blog? Have you been to any of them Weblog sites lately? No auditioning and free registration and commenting makes for some chaos.
@.357: IE right? There was some problems with Internet Explorer and Opera. They're trying to fix that, the HTML breaks, and the profile links to the comments that aren't working anymore.
@Mobius_1000_Club: Gawker 2.0 killed the 1000 replies star! Gawker 2.0 killed the 1000 replies star! In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone to far
